It might have been Dei who pushed him over the edge, or SN, or E, or TT, or Max, or it could have been the fact that a whole bunch of different posters were all pushing his "I'm-the-only-one-who's-right-about-who's-awakened-and-who's not" button at the same time. Those nasty neo-Advaitans just won't give a guy a break! LOL
This is the best example of the "cigarette-man koan" that I've ever encountered. Here's a short version of the koan:
A man, who has attained a certain degree of understanding, walks into a Buddhist temple smoking a cigarette. He is very attached to his ideas about oneness, so he flicks ashes on the Buddha. From his viewpoint there is nothing holy or unholy in the universe, so it doesn't matter what he does. You are a teacher of the truth, and you see the man flick ashes on the Buddha. You realize that he is very attached to his ideas, so how can you teach him? The man is very strong. No matter what you say to him, he will hit you. If you hit him, he will hit you back even harder. How can you teach the cigarette-man?

I'm feeling left out because the Awakened One didn't pass judgement on me. Too new, I guess.

Note Peter I do not see any new posts by Michael. Once you delete your account all your previous posts are shown as a guest Ahh yes, thanks Abide. I think I did know that but it didn't cross my mind that M would have deleted his account! I've not being following the board the past couple of weeks so I missed whatever set him off. Seems a bit drastic IMHO, or perhaps dramatic is closer. He could have just faded away quietly. LOL. Sorry, no, he probably couldn't, but someone else might have. My own take is ZD is closer to being awake than the rest. Enigma a nice guy who wishes he was what he preaches as he's very good with words but that's as far as it goes with him IMO. Mamza seems sincere to me could be a early bloomer. Teetown the same. Max needs help with his ego and definitely has self-esteem issues. Question is very bright and if he can get to not Question he will be very close to awakening. Karen the Queen of one line posts ...
Sheesh! To quote Oscar Wilde: “The only thing worse than being talked about is not being talked about.” We all come here to be stripped naked. Do we? I think some people come here to teach and bask in the glow of student gratitude. I totally agree though, the spiritual path is about letting it all go. The armour is (should be?) the first layer off. Something I've really had to look at in myself ('cos lets be clear - I'm very much still working with the self) is motivation for posting and what I "get" from it. Michael wasn't getting what he wanted, so he left I can now see that there is nothing here for me. What was it you wanted, Michael? To Give Freely, or To Take?

The armour is (should be?) the first layer off. Something I've really had to look at in myself ('cos lets be clear - I'm very much still working with the self) is motivation for posting and what I "get" from it. getting naked is my conscious prime mover for interacting here but there are a lot of doubts about unconscious and dishonest motivations as well. as far as what i get from being here: - i love the pointers to multimedia files off site (and i'll miss msees presence in this way).
- i love the dialogue about knotty topics. primarily i listen to this and don't really feel like i have much to offer. it's fun. (and msees will be missed somewhat in this regard too, for the reason E mentioned, re: stimulating topics).
- there is a sense of community. before engaging here, there was no where i could talk to anyone about this. i'm thinking of hooking up with a local zendo to get some communal sitting. but i'd take the time to do AtA or I Am stuff.
but really i'll give up all that to get naked. alright alright, already naked. what would the clothes hold on to anyway?

I would clean the Buddha statue. That's a good thing to do, but it doesn't teach the cigarette-man. He doesn't care if you clean the statue. To him dirty or clean is all the same.

The Cigarette man can't be taught, but he's not the only one in the temple.
