I read that one is supopose to starve the ego to death. This came form an Enlightened God-Man.
I do not now think it is possible to starve the ego because the ego seems to mutate.

It mutates into the ego starver. Buddha tried that for a while too, after leaving opulent, indulgent ego land. First their was pleasure seeking ad infinitum, then strict asceticism. He noted that neither work and preached the Middle Way, exemplified by using a cushion to meditate. On the other hand, it's probably good to doubt almost everything you think you know for a while. I say almost, because it doesn't really make sense to doubt your existence (more than once).

It's not really a shock that ego manages to survive the game unscathed.

Embrace the pain, and you will win this game.

I imagined, but it didn't kick up any ideas as to what you may be referring to. Curious, though, what you mean.

I read that one is supopose to starve the ego to death. This came form an Enlightened God-Man. I do not now think it is possible to starve the ego because the ego seems to mutate. What is the ego? It's just an idea, isn't it? We think we can see the consequences of the ego ("He's so arrogant, he has a raging ego!"), but we can't see the ego itself. Because it doesn't exist, it is just a concept, just imagination. There's nothing to starve, and nothing to mutate. And nothing to fix either, contrary to what psychoanalysts might tell ya...

Oh I don't know. Building, defending, maintaining, tending a projected image of self or other seems to be a real activity. Once you see that all that is done for something entirely imaginary, then it seems ridiculous to build, defend, maintain and tend to it, and the activity stops-- instantly or gradually.

Oh I don't know. Building, defending, maintaining, tending a projected image of self or other seems to be a real activity. Question: What is the purpose of the ego? is it a distraction from our spiritual self, the bad guy or is its existence just necessary to the counterpart of … what? The Indian term for ego in Sanskrit is ahamkara and its function is to give a sense of unity or singularity to human experience—the feeling that experience is happening to some person, not just abstractly in the cosmic mind. It’s like the focal point of a lens that gathers all light and converges it into one point. Ahamkara is what allows us to say,” I am eating an apple” rather than an apple is being eaten. So the ego performs an essential function. The problem arises when the inner self, or Atman, is not fully awake. In this weakened state, instead of knowing our true status as unlimited, non-local pure consciousness, our sense of identity becomes overshadowed by our external experience. This is object referral instead of self-referral. Our sense of “I” is then defined by our body, our relationships, our possessions, our fears and desires. This unawakened version of the ego does generate distractions and obstacles to spiritual growth just by virtue of this self-perpetuating object referral pattern. The ego in itself is not the villain. Once self-realization occurs, the ego’s misappropriation of identity dissolves and its simple function of providing individuality to experience will remain even after enlightenment. -Chopra We could not navigate the world without an ego.And yet, it doesn't exist. Try and show me yours. I can't see it, taste it, smell it, touch it. I can see the consequences of your ego in operation, but that's it. At best, ego can be considered an imaginary friend. At worse, it's an imaginary foe. But, the key word is "imaginary."

The key word there is "imaginary." I can't show us a mind, either. But I have one, and so do you. Now we are getting ahead of ourselves. The mind is just as imaginary. You can't show me your mind either. The best and brightest scientists can't even figure out where your mind lives inside you.
