Being a guru for profit is a pretty nutsty job actually, thats why its a lot more prevelent in developing countries like India. If you are going to be a Guru for profit you have to really immerse yourself in the lifestyle....which means that while your foundation may have millions, the guru himsekf doesn't get to enjoy it much. Sure, they get free room and board, abd if they are not marrued they could probably get away with having a good amount of sex with some nubile sanyasins, but generally speaking, there isn't much freedom in the position to actually enjoy the wealth. It's not like they are flying around in provate jets and rolls royces with rolex watches....well except for Osho who purposely defied convention lol The foundation might have millions, but most Guru's for profit's freedom is so restricted that they can't really enjoy the wealth without risking losing everything. Functionally, you can just work and get an education and easily live a lifestyle comparable to the lifestyle of most Guru's for profit. Thats why its so much more common in developing countries. In places where its comparatively easy to get an education and make a decent living its just not worth giving up big chunks of personal freedom to become a Guru for profit. There are exceptions of course. Oddly, most of the Guru's that I enjoy the most were pretty we off before they became a guru, so clearly they did'nt do it for Money. Gautama= Wealthy Prince Ramana=His family were successful merchants Jesus=According to many historical accounts he was a at a minimum a Prince in the line of David and probably had a claim to being the rightful King of the Hebrews not just a poor Carpenter. Osho= His family had money to and was comparitively wealthy Pantanjali= ? Anyone know? Should I be surprised you've put so much thought into the guru-as-career lifestyle?

You forgot omniscience, clairvoyance, instant wealth and complete, total and permanent peace, joy and ease. You both forgot the most important one for Tar-Baby.....Walking on Water ;-) Wow ... well this one overloaded my decoder ring so I had to get on the horn to Enlightenment Central but they confirmed for me that this one is optional and comes with the drawback of permanent stigmata.

"The poor you will always have with you." - Mark 14:7 Seems so.... from NZ, Police are hunting for three men involved in a "nasty attack on a harmless monk" at a Buddhist Temple south of Auckland last night. The 58-year-old Vietnamese monk was hospitalised with a number of fractures and a serious head wound. He was assaulted and handcuffed after three men smashed down the front of his ranch slider. They stole from the temple after the assault. The men left the monk unconscious after the attack and attempted to steal his car to get away. They were unable to use the car and abandonded it on the premises. (Just as well he didnt import his Rickshaw when he migrated)
