What I'm asking is how those experiences can be scary if you don't exist. If there's no you, how could you be scared? How could there be a you avoiding the idea that you don't exist? Clearly you are scared, so somebody must be hiding behind the one that doesn't exist. That's how it sounds on this end, although there is always the possibility that I'm wrong too. Hm... Eg. with b it was: "room" for a few seconds, then the thought "I'm not here", then "this is just a movie, noone is looking, there are no people", then "cool", then "oh shit, I'm not here", then "this is creepy", then "oh nonono, I got to be here", and then fear...

Thanks Sharon. Norquist is, seemingly, stalking me. I hate the guy though, and love him too. Reading the text produced another experience of "this is", but I'm still standing after it.

So, there is nothing outside of "this"? That's all your saying? Nothing else? No fancy voids, or dissembodied awarenesses, or god - just: This Appears and there is no-one here?

Yessiree. Whatever is happening right this moment is the whole blooming shebang. As for fear, consider the case of Suzanne Segal (Collision with the Infinite). Her sense of selfhood was totally blown away at the bus stop in Paris, never to return, yet strong fear continued for the next ten years. That fear was not experienced by Suzanne because Suzanne was gone; there was simply fear without an identifiable experiencer of it.
As another example, during an initial cosmic consciousness experience, during which I couldn't remember my name and didn't know what was perceiving the world, SOMETHING recoiled in fright at the possibility that reality was about to be lost forever. There was no "me," in any conventional sense, that confronted the possibility of nothingness, but clearly there was SOMETHING aware of what was going on. Whatever that SOMETHING was is still here and is still aware of what's going on because THIS is undivided and it manfests "just like this."
After reading about Suzanne's experiences, I thought, "Hmmmmm, if I hadn't snapped back to a conventional state of self-recognition after ten minutes or so, and had remained in that selfless unfamiliar state, I, too, might have had considerable fear at not being able to return to any familiar psychological landmarks.
How these kinds of experiences and realizations play out in any particular body/mind is utterly mysterious, but the bottom line is that they are all happening to, and within, something unknowable. THAT is "what is" and THAT is what we are. Whatever "your" body/mind is doing and feeling right now is what THAT is doing and feeling right now.

"Thanks Sharon. Norquist is, seemingly, stalking me. I hate the guy though, and love him too." Cool ~ the likelihood that your love is bringing his writings to you makes more sense to me "Reading the text produced another experience of "this is", but I'm still standing after it." Yes ~ it's clear that it is written from what it's writing about. .~.~. And many thanx zendancer "How these kinds of experiences and realizations play out in any particular body/mind is utterly mysterious ...." Great sentence. The never spoken about finds it's most natural voice.

So, there is nothing outside of 'this'? That's all your saying? Nothing else? Hey, don't dis the This. What Is has so much going on than we can possibly be aware of. Never mind your (hypothetical) disincarnate entities, (potential) higher dimensions or (alledged) lower astral planes; If you just considered the words, images and voices that are currently flowing straight through us via the medium of radio waves - there's thousands of times more stuff going on that we could possibly experience in any one moment. That's a whole lot of information. Glad I don't have to be aware of it, very distracting. There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, Than are dreamt of in your philosophy.

there is no you. have you really looked to see if this is true? it sounds like you understand it but have not actually seen the truth of it. During the past week had three kinds of experiences. a) Being the "space" in which everything appears. The "Amness", the "stilness". A kind of "dissembodied awareness", "all is (that) one". b) Looking into the room, and suddenly not being there. There was just "room". Creepy as hell. A lifeless universe. c) While falling asleep, discovering I was not there, and the world was not there, but there is knowledge of the fact of existence. This seemed to be mortally dangerous, and I "come back" just prior to accepting this, and being "sucked into oblivion". With all these experiences, except the first which is pleasurable, a lot of fear arises. So, yes, I obviously actively avoid (stop short due to terror) seeing/accepting the knowledge of "my" non-existence. Which one of these experiences, if any, points to what you all keep yapping about? And... what am I not seeing? What am I missing? angela has a great post on her blog too -- resonated with me (!) it's something else ha ha ha surrenderingangela.blogspot.com/2011/02/belief-in-something-else.html

All this for that for that is all there is etc etc gets really boring after a while. Time to have some fun here. more to come soon..if folks want to sit around all day and talk about nothing this is the place to be. We have more words about nothing here than any other place. As for me if I ask someone if they have something to give me and they say nothing I say thank you and walk away with the nothing they gave me no big deal.. Michael

Michael The problem isn't people just talking about 'nothing' or doing 'nothing' or talking about the truth, or whatever... The problem is that its all a 'doing'. It's about taking this precious moment that we are and screwing with it, by covering it up. Your BS about 'going' for the truth is just that. LOL The biggest obstacle to the truth, is thinking that we've found it. Anything coming from the mind is BS, including ones self indulgent identity. Were trapped in a thought world of our own making and then we start believing those false thoughts. How insane is that? Sometimes it's easier to spot the BS coming from somebody else's mind than our own...

Anything coming from the mind is BS, including ones self indulgent identity. Exactly my point now tell me how you just wrote this post without the mind? You need to understand how silly it is. You can talk /post till the cows come how it's all BS, it's all a lie even what I am writing now is not the truth. Speaking about anything non dual is a fantasy of the mind. Now before you get into a tatter Awakening is. It's as simple as that .It will happen when it happens does not depend if you ever read a book, listen to a satsang, posted what you think you know on forums it just is. There is absolutely nothing you can do to make it happen sooner and nothing to make it happen later. People here and there think what is this, I feel this energy, I saw that the everything stopped for a min or am I doing this right bla bla bla it's all BS until one day it happens the viel falls and you see but this has absolutely nothing to do with your prior history. There is a big lie that you and 99% of people have about awakening that somehow if I just understand it correctly it will happen. Sorry there is no education for awakening. This forum, all the forums are more like gathering places for people to share experiences more like a support group but not a support group for awakening. You have to awaken first but then there is never a need of support. I enjoy being here because it's fun to see how people think about chasing a ghost. But the truth is nothing can be said about Awaken simple because it's not of the mind and when we talking about it it's like reading a very poorly translated book you simply have no idea what the original author meant. All the posts about people think they awaken and they have not is the biggest BS of them all. You can never ever tell if a person is awaken by what they write or say. In danger of Enigma it is Not of this world. So post as you may but remember it's really pretty stupid to use any kind of judgments in this area about where they are or not. You could post the most outrageous thing that sounds like you never had any education of things "spiritual" and you could be awaken. It's Not what you think and you can never think it. There is no wrong or right way to look at this. IT is what it is and thank god that awakening is that. If it ever depended on what the mind thinks you would still be in your mind. Ok that should do it for a while. Call me crazy but always remember you can not talk about this and get value from it in a "spiritual "way. You can get support, feel good stuff and all that and basically that is what all the neo-advaita stuff is. None of it is about Awakening nor could it ever be. This is my opinion I am sure your millage will vary. p.s However please do not get the impression that I think forums like this have no value. They do as far as emotional support, living a better life etc but not to awaken. As ZD says he spent 34 years looking for the truth but make sure you read correctly what he is saying. He does not say he obtained awakening by 34 years of practice or seeking. It could as just as easily happen after 1 year or whatever one does not have anything to do with the other. This is where the lie comes in somehow we think that if we are doing something we are making progress. You can never make progress with awakening it just happens. There are people who spent more than 34 years maybe their whole life and are not awaken but the average Joe the plumber down the street gets awaken or David Carse that knew nothing about this takes a few nice herbs in the Jungle and bingo he got it. Was it the herbs I doubt it, it was just his time to awaken it could be the absolute used that experience to awaken David but these are things we will never know nor need to know. When the absolute touches you you will have no choice to awaken and you will see how silly the past was in trying to understand and get this. With love Michael
