Barack was no Lee Kuan Yew. A great President must unify. Unify America? well if someone can figure that one out he'd get something better than the Nobel Peace prize Figure what out? How to unify the country or why any attempt to do that would upset the people?

I haven't read, yet, but I saw the early film, Bruce Davidson, and a later TV version also. The whole world was unified, when attacked by aliens. (Ronald Reagan also stole that line). Sort of a spoiler alert, the story is a play on the Chuang Tzu butterfly story. He lives in the Seattle area, 85%-90% always cloudy.

I was thinking Barack maybe just intelligence wise.. not necessarily agenda or results wise Intelligence doesn't cut it. Love of country, both the place and its people, counts. Barrack was broke before he ran and now both he and his wife have $150 million. I am not against wealth. It's how spiritual Americans allow politicians to get rich in the face of America's poor that offends me.
Do you get me, farmer? You are the one who is messing up America. You are the owner. Barrack was hired by you to run our country.
I was kinda kidding about Barack, even though I enjoyed the years of his presidency.. especially, and oh boy!, after those years were put in a different contrast by what was to follow! nonsense, complete and utter nonsense

Why won't the best among us want to lead the country? Why are we forbidden to inquire into the state of our republic? Seems to me we are all frogs in a hot pot and almost completely cooked. Are you a dead frog, stardust? Can you tell. You and farmer are from the original 13 colonies (those stripes on our flag) that formed the USA. What's the matter with you? I don't understand this question. You need to clarify. You didn't answer my question about Chuang Tzu. sdp prefers to "drag his tail in the mud". Chuangtze explained Jesus' Sermon on the Mount. The empty boat points to why Jesus wanted us to turn the other cheek. The boatman is the object of hate. Empty boat cannot incite hate.
I would rather you focus on Jesus' teaching. You won't figure out what your own kind is saying to you and prefer to rummage through the inscrutable musings of a Chinaman? I doubt if you have ever even swallowed a wonton.

I have zero interest in book reading these days and I don't really even have all that much interest in watching movies much anymore, but I do like a good action flick and I'm taking the old lady to see Brad Pitt's latest tomorrow night.

Singaporeans elected Lee Kuan Yew in 1959. His PAP party has governed Singapore till today. He was an acknowledged world statesman held in high regard in throughout the world; especially, in the west. Lee raised the GDP per capita of Singapore from third world level to exceed that of the USA. China used the Singapore economic model to lift 800million people out of poverty.
Can you explain why the US electorate prefer to elect and keep doofuses in power? Now I see what you've been angling towards. You want a father figure, a benign dictator. Problem with that is succession. If you get a bad one, it takes bloodshed to remove them. Here, we have a better chance of removing the dufuses without bloodshed. I'll take my chances with the people. Always had an aversion towards authoritarian figures, why Reefs and Andy cause the old hackles to rise. You could always emigrate. You have got it all wrong. stardust was pointing to the philosopher-king not getting elected by the people. I cited Singapore, a parliamentary democracy.
The only answer to a well-run society is one made up of spiritually-awakened electorate, not immoral mindless duds. I am talking about a world not over-run by crooks and fools. We are just a bunch of duds and demons burning in Hell with Lucifer and his devils running it. I am baring the truth.

I doubt if you have ever even swallowed a wonton. You need to go back and read the end again. Chuang Tzu says if you go through life like an empty boat, no one will ever get angry with you. This is the empty self which you say is impossible, which you said J Krishnamurti got wrong. Chuang Tzu did not say to treat everyone else as empty boats. He said for ~you~ yourself to be empty. Empty is not ambiguous. Empty means empty. Chuang Tzu is saying if you go through life as an empty boat, when someone, probably lots of someones, bumps into you and shouts, you can't get upset, because you are empty.

How to unify the country or why any attempt to do that would upset the people? This is a very complicated question and likely beyond the scope of this forum to dig in too deeply. But there are deep divisions.. some revolving around the size and scope of government, about some fictitious concept of 'law and order', about gender, about race, about the role of religion in government.. lots of things divisions, man and all the while being exacerbated by those looking for some fleeting fame or coin
