Hi, I'm your 15 y/o daughter. I'm autistic and my IQ is below 85. One of my many problems is that I can't understand words except in a literal way. The other is that I'm a little slow sometimes, others say that I'm just a little unlucky when I try to think. And my attention span is really short, after three sentences I've already forgotten what the first sentence was. Daddy, mommy, I love you very much, and I know that you love me more than anything. So my question is - and please don't forget how much you love me and please don't forget my aforementioned problems - how to get enlightened? (note from BB: despite what you may think, I can assure you that this is a dead serious and well thought through thread and no off topic or funny comments will be tolerated)

"get off that godd@mn cellphone and do you homework" (note from farmer: neither funny or off topic) Wrong. It's both off topic and not funny. The question is very clear and simple: "How to get enlightened?" You answer hasn't adressed it at all.

Wasn't meant as humor, so being "not funny" is as it was intended. Also, having her attend to immediate duties would be better than sending her off on some wild goose chase. Besides, your question is too general, retarded even. but honesty, sincerity & perseverance is a common theme... and perhaps .. observing thoughts, in an attempt to ascertain their truthiness, or not..

Besides, your question is too general, retarded even. but honesty, sincerity & perseverance is a common theme... and perhaps .. observing thoughts, in an attempt to ascertain their truthiness, or not.. Will she get enlightened from doing her homework? Obviously not. How much homework does she have to do before she gets enlightened? Why is playing with her cellphone worse for getting enlightenment than doing her homework? Nobody is saying that you should send her on a wild goose chase. In fact the question is structured so that you exactly don't send her on a wild goose chase. You love her, so you wouldn't do that to her in the first place. Second reason is that she is stupid, so you have to be extremely clear and you're not allowed to confuse her. So the question is not at all retarded. It's suppose to force you to stop búllshítting and instead use clear and simple language without any ego-games, something that is extremely rare on forums like these (of all places!). Stop the ego-games and just answer the question to the very best of your ability. If you can't then just say so.

What do you hope to gain by knowing?

I would say, 'Robyn Lindsay (It's the name I picked out if I'd had a girl): Enlightenment is sorta mysterious, and it's not like you can put a couple of quarters in a gumball machine and get something. It's hard to figure out how anybody becomes enlightened, to be honest. It seems as though it sometimes happens and sometimes it just doesn't. It's even hard to say if someone claims they are enlightened, that they really are or not.
So, it's not anything worth worrying about because a so-called enlightened person doesn't look any different from one who is not. It's not like light shines over their heads like a halo or anything. If your heart has love for yourself and you're compassionate, and you can see things for what they are for the most part, that's good enough.'

I'm curious if you think that it is a necessary question. Of course it's necessary. Obviously the goal is to learn how to get enlightened.

Not everyone asks themselves it and live wonderful lives...... So who made it a goal and why doesn't everyone have it as one? What do you think enlightenment is? You must have a reason for having it as a goal.
