"Stone" with De Niro, Ed Norton and Mila Jockavich from 2010.
Major spiritual subplot. Line to De Niro from Norton:
"oh I know what you're feeling and I'm pulling for you buddy! .. Just let it go ... let it all go ... just burn it all down to the ground ... let it all go up in smoke ... you have NO idea of the freedom on the other side ..."

Lawrence of Arabia Hugo, my new second favorite, almost favorite. King of Hearts, British, about 1967, small town during WWII (I think it was in France) is evacuated because of expected shelling. Everybody leaves except the residents of a Mental Hospital. The gates are open and they take over the town seeming rather Ok. Alan Bates (The King of Hearts.....picking a card at random....becomes the unexpected leader of the bunch). Bates realizes that the rest of the people of the world making war, are the crazy ones. As the town residents come back as the all-clear is called, the crazy people make their way back the the Mental Hospital, voluntarily. Movie ends with Bates standing at the gate of the Mental Hospital, naked, with a bird cage strategically held, awaiting entry. Thunderheart. The Matrix. Good Will Hunting. Contact. Next. Minority Report. Bladerunner. Imposter. The Adjustment Bureau. Paycheck. The Thruman Show. K-Pax. Billy Jack. Pleasantville. I am a sucker for time travel movies........ That's all that come to mind..... sdp Pleasantville! Yes! I remember seeing that not long after spiritual matters started to become relevant in my life, and that film really struck a chord. On the surface it could probably seem like quite a superficial movie, but it definitely has depth.

God almighty! Can't believe I forgot to mention Idiocracy. Private Joe Bauers, the definition of "average American", is selected by the Pentagon to be the guinea pig for a top-secret hibernation program. Forgotten, he awakes 500 years in the future. He discovers a society so incredibly dumbed-down that he's easily the most intelligent person alive. www.imdb.com/title/tt0387808/ahhh, the inspiration for one of your past monikers revealed

Maybe Hollywood can push towards good acting and not just pretty faces in movies again someday. I hope not. If I want to see ugly people then I just go out to the street. I want to enjoy movie experience and not have to be annoyed by ugly people. And let's not kid ourselves. The difference between good acting and mediocre acting is very small, almost imperceptible to me. With someone like Daniel Day Lewis I notice that he is a really good actor, but with most the other actors I really don't notice and don't even care. It's much more important to see familiar faces and also interesting faces... or just actors that I like for some reason, for example guys like Steve Buscemi, he is ugly but still fun to watch. When I choose a new movie to watch first I look at the cast, if there are no familiar faces then I'm almost certain not to watch. And the second criteria is the rating, if the rating is low and I don't know the actors then I won't watch, but if the rating is low but there is a familiar actor (for exmple Ed Norton or Kevin Spacey then probably I will watch). And I will watch bad movies, even if the actors suck but I like them, for example I watched all the vampire movies with Kristen Stewart, just because of her, or for example I will watch any movie with Milla Jovovic just because she is in it. Bottom line is I want to be entertained. I don't want to watch some movie in order to admire the subtleties of acting, I don't even notice the subtleties, so why bore myself? For example there was this black and white movie a couple of years ago, I even forgot its title, it won oscar awards and everything, I said okay everyone says it's good so I'll try, even though it was b/w (and I hate that, usually i refuse to watch b/w), after 10 min i say screw this, this is boring pseudo-intellectual nonsense. I know I am mega intellectual, I am honest with myself and I have nothing to prove, no need to waste time on stuff i dont like. Some of my favourite movies: Independence Day GoodFellas Indiana Jones trilogy Alien trilogy Terminator 2 Back To The Future (all of them) Snatch Snake Plissken Die Hard 3? (The one with Samuel Jackson) Big Lebowski Good Will Hunting Wag The Dog Bourne trilogy 12 monkeys Star Trek (everything, movies and the series) There are some good movies in your list. And funny enough all with great actors. You say you don't notice the difference between average an great actors but yet your list is littered with top actors. Some pretty, some not. My list: Good Will Hunting Pretty Woman Goodfellas Pulp Fiction Forrest Gump or Green Mile or Saving Private Ryan or pretty much any Tom Hanks film. Shawshank Redemption The Big Lebowski Donnie Darko Schindlers List Silence of the Lambs Dances with wolves There will be Blood or Gangs of New York or pretty much any Danny day film. Fargo Intouchables (about the handicapped guy and his black caretaker) French version. Star Wars Lord of the Rings Visually one of the most impactful movies I ever remember was Avatar in 3D at the movie theater. Insanely good flick visually.
