How is Ego related to Knowing and Understanding?
Most here will probably agree that the primary function of Ego is the survival of the BodyMind, I would say that the ego creates both the BodyMind and the environment that it exists in, which are all functionally one.
Can Ego exist without "Knowing"?
Are Ego and Knowing the same thing?
In the absence of Knowing, where is Ego?

Ego is an imagined condition.. it does not exist, it's meaning varies among its believers.. Be well..

Unfortunately, the fact that it's a product of imagination doesn't lessen the effect on experience any less.

I agree with both, however, as Silence said, the affect and nature of ego still presents itself, so this thread is an exploration of the connection between Knowing and Ego....are they separate, or the same thing?
It seems that in Mind, the function and the thing are not separate....and so: Knowing and Ego are the same.
The function of Ego, in a real rubber meets the road way, is knowing stuff, recognizing stuff, identifying stuff etc....this is the means of survival, or as I view it, the means of creation of our individuation and the environment that this individuation operates in.
Let go of "knowing", identification, understanding, even simple recognition of phenomena.
Ego, and it's illusion of identity, and individuation, even it's very existence, ceases with the cessation of Knowing.

What is your view on the connection between "Knowing", and Ego, or Selfhood, or Existence?

What is your view on the connection between "Knowing", and Ego, or Selfhood, or Existence? The question is too vague for me.

What is your view on the connection between "Knowing", and Ego, or Selfhood, or Existence? The question is too vague for me. By "knowing", we mean all forms of knowing, meaning understanding, identifying, gnosis, episteme, recognition, etc.... Without any form of "knowing" does Self, or Ego, or "I" exist, even as an illusion or non-existing experience as Enigma might say?

How do you know that nobody stops knowing things? I spend most of the time not knowing anything at all. Have you never let go of knowing, even for a brief period? Have you found some ultimate TRUTH about Knowing things? Who is a spiritual "teacher" that you respect, let's see what they have said about knowing and not knowing, maybe you will trust them more than me if you have never experienced the cessation knowing for yourself...

What does happen, for those that are willing, is that the mind becomes so still that there is no access to beliefs and knowings.. the access to beliefs and knowings is suspended for the interval that the active mind remains still, and experienced information is not distorted by the mind's influence.. 'experienced information' is not limited by the traditional five senses, it is also revealed by insight, intuition, energetic awareness, emotion, and possibly other ways that awareness informs us of our existence.. but, a still mind suspends the distortions and distraction of beliefs and knowings for those interested and willing to see/experience what is actually happening.. Be well..

What do you 'know' during intervals of deep and dreamless sleep?.. i'm not not asking what is known before or after the interval of deep sleep, what do you 'know' during deep dreamless sleep, or under anesthesia? Be well..

As for me, I don't know, or care to know, it just happens, no thought required. Haven't you ever done anything without thinking it through, just pure unknowing doing that just happens?
