There were three articles I perused in the WSJ, MarkeWatch and NBC all relating to underreporting covid deaths in the Lombardy region of Italy. One instance I recall was a town where there was an average of 35 deaths a year had already suffered 135 deaths this year so far, but only 20% of those were counted as covid deaths because they simply stopped bothering to test those who'd already died. So the lack of data can work both ways.

This could go either way, and its impossible to predict. It may be intellectually fun to imagine various ways that this pandemic will play out, but there are no guarantees. All that we can say is, "Wait and see." There are just as many reasons to think that people will remain asleep as there are to think that people will wake up (with or without the pandemic). I'm not talking about the future. I'm talking about right now. Jesus said the fields are ripe for harvest all the time. Times like these make it even more so, what with all the mental anguish, fear and uncertainty peeps are experiencing now, making them particularly ripe, and they need to the hear good news that peace and freedom from mind is possible. You'd think on a Spiritual forum such this one you would hear more about that. That's all I getting at. We have threads about that subject, but this isn't one of them. Furthermore, we only have a small handful of people who come to this site, and I'd guess that all of them already know (at least intellectually) what non-duality points to. FWIW, I haven't detected any fear at all from posters here. It's been more a matter of "this is what's happening, so do whatever needs to be done." As for me, what needs to be done at the moment is waterproofing some concrete block and getting a foundation drain installed before rain returns in two days. My daughter called the other day because she and her husband's music performance business came to an abrupt end when all of their gigs for the next two months were cancelled and they and the 70+ musicians and singers they employ are now totally out of work. She said, "Well, with no work and no desire to interact with other people, this might be a great time to go into retreat and spend some time in silence." I laughed and replied, "I totally agree, so let me know what THIS decides to do." So far THIS has chosen to work on her house.

I find myself talking about it here now. I've heard from several teachers about the subject; Adyashanti, Gangaji, Spira, Tolle, Mooji, etc. As one (you) who has had a face to face with God, I was wondering about your view of the big picture in the world at present and the opportunities this crisis offers on the level of awakening. You've answered the question. Thank you, BTW, it says below that there were 250 guests on the forum in the last 24 hours. Not sure how that breaks down exactly, repeats and all, but it points to viewers who are not posters. I wonder what they were looking for? But again, it's all good. We do as we do. Keep on trucking!

I'm not so sure about the number of guests. I think if you are here (member) but not logged in you are counted as a guest. I think I have noted this previously (think means not 100% positive). Maybe Reefs or Peter can comment on this. In my own life in the past, I've found crisis intensifies the search. Things get put in perspective. One has to decide what's most important in their life, maybe only ONE thing is really important. Crisis brings focus. But then, down the road, outer crisis is not really crisis, just a little bump in the road. So you are absolutely right. Maybe you would want to start a thread: If you are new and have stumbled upon this site, in this time of crisis, here's what ST's is about...

The over counting is probably worse than that because the same visitor might be counted multiple times depending on the way proboards is tracking us and how we have our browser's configured. I've experimented with it (years ago) and as I recalled at the time, sometimes they mult-count me, other times they don't. Also, the view counts on the threads aren't unique viewers, they get incremented every time any page in the thread is clicked.

Stoic conditioning can immunize even a people-peep from that kind of effect, as they were the original source of the concept of the witness in Western culture. There's a fascinating opportunity for observation here. History demonstrates time-and-time again how cultural group-think reshapes the reality of the members of that group. Some of it is negative, such as war and oppression of one group by another, some of it is positive in terms of changes that led to civil order and advancements in technology, a broadening and peaceful influence on human perspective/experience generally (iow: education), and other cultural facets contributing to standard-of-life. It's easy, in retrospect, to see how deception and Machiavellian ploys were used to effect the negative movements of the past. It's easy to see the narratives of how people were manipulated into supporting war and tolerating oppression. Living in these interesting times (to paraphrase from the old Chinese curse), presents a challenge to identify that as it's happening in the present. I'm finding it quite similar to the psychological aspect of becoming conscious of the content and dynamic of mind, with the mind at issue in this case, being that collective group-think. Right, on a superficial level, the stoics have some sound advice for times of crisis. But ultimately, the typical stoic has a rather negative outlook on life and as such stoicism is not in alignment with the natural flow of life. The skeptics, on the other hand, are a much happier bunch in comparison. My guess is, as long as there are people that are out of alignment, there will be Machiavellian tendencies, those who scheme and plot and those who become 'victims' of these schemes and plots. Sometimes this affects entire countries or continents. However, from a co-creation perspective, there isn't really such a thing as a victim in the usual sense of the word. There are only co-creators. And if people would just understand that good feels good and bad feels bad, we wouldn't have to worry about people taking advantage of others or people being taken advantage of by others. In the movie K-Pax, when the psychiatrist Dr. Powell asks Prot how they know right from wrong on his planet, Prot is amused at the question and replies: "Every being in the universe knows right from wrong, Mark." That's it in a nutshell! Point being, the solution to group or global problems is on the individual level if we want it to last. Which means going back to the basics, to good feels good and bad feels bad. Certainly, the point could be made that some movements or religions of the past did some good in terms of uplifting individual people, but in the long run, those guidelines or rules, the top down approach, is something artificial and people may get lost in the formalities. That's also something Jan discovered after his involvement with various Zen communities, some practitioners and even masters got totally lost in the rituals and formalities, and discipline turned into sadistic behavior without anyone even noticing it. In one of his books he mentioned a monk being hit by the ZM with a zen stick during sanzen. The monk didn't survive the blow. The police did never investigate. And no one in the Zen temple did seem to find that odd (except Jan). Maybe that's why Laozi regarded rules as a form of decline, he mentioned several stages of societal decline; the first starting with morality being held up, the next was common laws, the third severe punishments and so on... but then again, we are where we are. And I'm confident we'll figure it out as we go along. Yeah, Kevin's delivery of that line was quite memorable. It's certainly worth mentioning that "Machiavellian" is, of course, a conceptual overylay on top of events, which comes along for the ride once the concept of social interaction is the context of the dialog. Finally got around to watching the soldier's interview, that was some strong stuff. Might write more in reply another time.

Universal anti-body and covid virus testing is our only way out of this mess. Agreed. Without extensive testing there's simply no way to understand what's happening or what the level of risk is. Contact tracing will also be necessary so that infected people who are asymptomatic can be quarantined.

One time, in band camp, the 'pilgrim started writing about how interested people were in one of his threads because of the view count so Question wrote a robot to drive-up various counts way out of proportion to the others.

Maybe's it's changed then, that's the way it used to work. If I get interested enough I'll experiment and let ya' know.
