Great film. (If you haven't seen it, some heavy questions explored along the way, identity especially. The Prestige, the 3rd part of a magic trick). Another good Bowie film, The Man Who Fell To Earth. Yes ten_ten and Stardust I've seen that film, great film. And the man who fell to Earth. The Illusionist too. The costume designer Joan Bergin did an amazing job of creating the outfits and periodic feel for The Prestige. And the film In The Name Of The Father. Another good film if you haven't seen it. Some films the clothing really stands out on the characters like film The Untouchables ( Robert De Niro and Kevin Costner) Armani was involved even with the film Goodfellas and The Wolf Of Wall Street ( a must see movie) Of late I've met a person who is passionate about cars. Owns a few. For some reason Krishnamurtis love of cars shot through. And Osho in his fleet of Rolls Royces. No wonder he danced as he stepped out of one as it beats a tuk tuk any day. Speaking of the wolf of Wall Street and people becoming more energy rich. I once saw a documentary on how a firm invited in just ordinary people who had no knowledge of dealing in stocks to see how they would perform against people they had employed some who they had head hunted for certain job roles. In the experiment a few dropped out but the majority out performed the figures of their own employees. I do feel as one of my close friends growing up he couldn't pass a single exam but give him a few electrical equipment out of a skip and he will always create something out of it. Going back to the thread I was asking my friends children if they are taught anything on global warming. And they said yes in Geography on how global warming is real and we have to act fast to bring changes in. I said are you taught about the opposing views on global warming and they said no. And one said out of the blue we even have to have our fingerprints at dinner time which doesn't feel right. Our thumbprints to purchase food. But I said what about that data on what foods you eat where does it go. As I don't have children I would question it but even their parents don't know. I said in the future could that data be used to scan your health risks a burger a day would show up as high risk to an employer. Or gaining insurance. I feel all points of view should be presented to a student The same applies to awakened teachings. The lovers and haters. Tesla is a fascinating figure. Apparently Trumps uncle was on the scene at his death. Some films seem to reference Trump, Tesla, time travel even in the Back To The Future series. The Baron Trump novels Marvellous Underground Journey. The front cover of the boy has a remarkable resemblance to Trumps youngest son. Some say Teslas works fell into the hands of Trumps uncle. A book that was written against the adventure stories by Lewis Carolls Alice in Wonderland. Interestingly keeping to the theme of this thread Professor William Happer did a talk on global warming titled Alice in Climate Change. Referencing the mad house 😂 Who knows. I always find it amazing how meeting young children who have a creative spirit tend to want to learn more and want to share their skills back in to their community. How that later gets played out maybe a different story. When they get married and have a mother in law 😂

That looks like an interesting movie--"The Prestige." I had never heard of it. Oh yes, I can highly recommend. Watch very carefully. Don't investigate it...you want zero spoilers... This is a piece about the director: spiritualteachers.proboards.com/post/446590

I didn't realize it was a Christopher Nolan film, no wonder it's so good... (couldn't see the link, it's restricted).

That issue is covered in "The Water Will Come," but even if the Russian scientist is correct, that won't solve the problem; it will simply keep it from being worse. He's undoubtedly correct about the carbon locked up in the permafrost (which is reportedly a mile deep in Siberia), and if his approach would keep it from melting, that would be terrific, but that won't stop the albedo effect as the arctic sea ice melts and the ocean absorbs sunlight that was at one time reflected back into space. Another book, though older, is "Field Notes from a Catastrophe." It discusses permafrost issues and is quite informative.

"Field Notes" was interesting because it was written in 2006, and its speculations about future CO2 levels have turned out to be much lower than what those levels are today. The atmosphere, oceans, and permafrost are heating up much faster than predicted when that book was written. Climate phenomena are highly variable, but scientists who monitor the temperature of the permafrost at varying depths below the surface can see that the temperature is steadily rising despite the variations in above-ground weather. Just scanning the news yesterday it was interesting to hear climatologists directly link Hurricane Barry's large expected rainfall to global warming. We all remember Katrina, but who remembers the huge rainfall event in Louisiana in 2016? In China 80,000 people are now being evacuated because of a rain event that is claimed to be the largest in the last fifty years. In Antarctica there was news that the Thwaites Glacier, which is the size of Florida, may soon break free. That's the glacier that NASA discovered (via ground-penetrating radar) has a huge water-filled void beneath it that is thought to have been caused by warmer ocean water melting the Thwaites' ice from underneath. That glacier, alone, if it breaks free and melts, will raise the ocean level two feet, and it is holding back several other glaciers that if unimpeded (by the Thwaites) will flow faster to the sea, and those glaciers cumulatively would raise the ocean level another six to eight feet. It may be time for some people to think about moving to higher ground.
On a more positive note there's a documentary from New Zealand showing how several groups of people have found new farming methods that sequester increased amounts of carbon and thereby reduce dependence on fossil fuels. It points out that photovoltaics and wind farms cannot be a long-term solution because the energy required to build them, transport them, service them, and replace them outweighs their value over the long term. Low tech sustainability using reforestation, increased biodiversity, and new farming methodologies may offer a more viable solution. Stay tuned.

Yes, it's only a matter of time before people everywhere realize what's happening and why it will get much worse in the future. On Saturday night we had another huge rain event (4 inches of rain in about two hours) that flooded two buildings and did lots of damage. Fortunately the massive concrete walls we poured several weeks ago kept the drive from being washed out, but we'll have machines working all week in an effort to build berms and dig larger drainage swales to reduce the effects of future events like this. For many of us, this is the new normal.

Just saw some recent stats:
1. In 139 years of record-keeping this June was the hottest month on record. 2. The last 12 months were the wettest 12 months on record. 3. For every 1 degree celsius in temp rise the air can hold 7% more water (increasing the size and intensity of rain events). 4. CO2 is now at the highest level in at least 800,000 years and prob longer 5. Heat has doubled the amount of land burned by wildfires 6. Current monsoon flooding and landslides in Nepal have killed dozens and stranded thousands 7. 4 million in Assam state in India need help due to flooding 8. 80,000 evacuated in China due to flooding 9. Major flooding is still occurring in the USA 10. As ocean temps rise ocean level also rises (apart from any rise due to ice melting) 10. Greenland ice and Antarctic ice is now melting at an unprecedented rate and is accelerating
A good documentary that might point to a viable solution is "Living the Change" (if we're not already past the tipping point). It can be viewed on Amazon Prime. "Rising Tide" is also worth a watch. "Living off the Grid" is also worth watching simply because of certain things that ordinary people have done that are relatively low-tech. As a builder, I was fascinated with the idea of adding significant insulated thermal mass to reduce the swings of internal structure temps (so that heat/cool systems don't have to cycle as often). Replacing grass with ground covers that don't have to be mowed and that foster greater biodiversity is also worth considering. If nothing else, the docs suggested several possible alternative methodologies for builders interested in reducing energy consumption and increasing carbon sequestration.

Doesn't seeing that there is simply no way to know what will happen next, that anything is possible, that no hard and fast rules apply to how this will unfold/manifest, make it rather impossible to fully buy into scientific predictions about anything to any degree beyond the surface...? Surely "There's simply no way to know," transcends "It's all going to hell in a hand-basket"? Being awake means that Scientific evidence, however compelling it may be, gets put in it's place.....and like all stories within the dream, loses it's ability to fully enmesh, to fully capture/captivate. You seem pretty certain about what is going to unfold in the future.... how do you marry that with your realization that it's all ultimately 'mysterious and unpredictable'?

I think most posters on the forum know that the two issues are not in conflict, but who knows? We can wait and see. Depends what you mean by 'two issues'. I don't see any conflict between a basic interest in environmental science and a realization that "there is no absolute/certain knowing how THIS will unfold/unlimited possibility," but I do see a conflict between an absolute certain knowing how things are going to unfold environmentally and the realization that it cannot be known.
As I said, you sound pretty certain about where things are going regarding the world/environment, (?) but then on the other hand....hold strong that in terms of arising feeling/behavior, such as anger/blame/lashing out, you just never know how THIS will manifest. From where I stand, it's the other way around; In SR, you CAN know that anger/blame and lashing out in that regard will not arise, because those feelings/behaviors hinge upon the presence of the delusions that get seen through in SR, whereas, things like unfolding weather patterns are of the ilk of infinite potential/possibility.
Blameful anger and delusion go hand in hand. Blameful anger requires the illusion of separation. If SR is the case, separation is no longer in play. Thus, we can say that if there is SR, there will not/cannot be blameful anger.
Also: Just gotta say that for a forum that used to focus upon nonduality, there's sure a lot of 'in the story' talk here these days.
