To the extent that compassion is an outpouring of Love, it is genuine. There is a compassion for others that originates in empathy. This is a distortion which is uniquely self centered. Responding to illusion as though it were actual is not the correct response to suffering. ***feeling the noose tighten a bit*** Really, really well said. There is great clarity behind that post....but yeah....I hear ya on the noose tightening bit! I'm just relieved that there's one who isn't looking around for a solid limb to throw a rope over.

Coming from the Ocean as a droplet is fantastic, you cannot fully experience your life if you spend your whole life at home with your parents. As a separate being we can experience life and all its wonders, as a Whole we are Life, but with no experience of that which we are. I use to continue thinking that I was the Whole, but then I kept forgetting that I was separate as an organism, an organism that was here to experience that which the Whole could never. We are very lucky to be here to experience this wonderful world, we as the personality or persona which we all wear and identify our selves with, have only this one chance to experience this world. I believe that many beliefs such as religion keeps us from fully experiencing this world, it makes us lazy, believing that if it all turns out wrong we can make it up in anther life, or a wonderful place called heaven. Yes we are One with the Source, but as the Source we miss out on so much, just as we are one with our family, we also miss out on so much if we don't leave the family and make our own life separate from the family, but always knowing we belong to the family. How can you be both "one with the source" and "Separate as an organism"? There is only One, but as an organism we need to play the game of separation, how can we enjoy our life when continuing to be reminded of the Source ?. This reminder is what the subconscious gives birth to, and hence we have many belief systems with all sorts of stories which is only our reminder of where we came from, or in realty that which we truly are.

Yes, there are no distortions of mind if there is no 'buy in'. Here's something that may never have been discussed before (HA!); There may be less interest in certain kinds of movies that require a suspension of disbelief and a sense of being drawn into the scenarios and identifying with the characters. Horror movies and films designed to create feelings of deep sadness may have no impact at all to one who is fully conscious. Yes, I like this line of thinking. I think it goes along, too, with a flipside -- that self-realization drops the amount of joy you get from all kinds of activities that get their joy kick primarily from satisfying some psychological craving. What's heightened is the joy of pure simple sense experience and maybe the joy of refined art and science. But generally, when one is immersed in the happiness of the Self, it simply isn't possible for other things to be as separately pleasurable anymore. Yes, the distortions of feeling, dramatic as they may be, have an unsupported breadth to them, while genuine feeling has a great depth supported by the entire universe due simply to their actuality and alignment with what is.

The idea of a Self implies that God is personal. When one realizes what they are, there is nothing to grab onto to make it personal. You are wholeness. The person is a fragmentation of that wholeness. You've already sliced Wholeness to make it what "You are".. and now you wanna slice it again to make it a person. Fascinating. The point is that you are Wholeness and not a slice of wholeness. As such, you have no name.

Please excuse me while I go inventory the torches and the pitchforks. You'll need a sturdy rope too!

It IS a movie, but a documentary...so the dude is not an actor. But yeah, I would have figured both concerns would fall away simultaneously too. But it really seems as though this guy is ok with the idea of death as he's climbing, rope free. Have a gander if you have time.
Oh, I see. The only question I have is, how is this guy still alive? He's never slipped once? Once is all it takes. I didn't get the impression he doesn't care if he lives or dies. He strikes me as an adrenaline junkie who has learned to compartmentalize his fear. .. while genuine feeling has a great depth supported by the entire universe due simply to their actuality and alignment with what is.

He considers it accurate to say that he doesn't take chances. In the film he talks about at least one guy who died free soloing who was "crazy" (did take chances). Also in the film he had a brain scan (fMRI I believe) to test his fear. He has an exceptionally high fear threshold, most likely from his training (versus vice versa). He says he is not an adrenalin junky, adrenalin spells disaster for him.

And then the day he did the filmed climb, was chosen on the morning. Complete, alignment (in action.)

Because he always carries spare batteries for the lighted rabbit ears. Hey. Not all of us have that infallible amphibian night vision. ok? Don't get me wrong, supplemental lighting is a must at those depths. Oxygen tanks are advisable as well. You can't be too careful.

He strikes me as an adrenaline junkie who has learned to compartmentalize his fear. Could be. While speaking to a group of students, he talks about when he was younger being absolutely terrified to speak in front of a group...but there he is, obviously over the fear, doing it fine. So maybe it's the same with the rope free climbing. He does talk about knowing at any moment while climbing, he could die and says he's ok with that.
It was interesting, when they did an MRI on his brain, his amygdala apparently has barely any activity at all.

I thought you were upgrading to 8-track. Those things are bugged, man. They put cookies on your rotary dial. I used an 8-track to make an automatic dialer for a touchtone back before there were automatic dialers.
