krsnaraja: fwiw, I've had the experience of helping to care for sick parents. Eventually things only go one way. There comes a point where things just don't get better over time. What I came to realize at one juncture is that I was actually nostalgic for earlier times when I was suffering because of past progressions of their illness. Bottom line is that every instant with those you love is precious, even the ones that suck, and the opportunity to care for them is one that's solid gold, no matter what the material cost at the time. God bless and best of luck dude. One thing you may notice when taking care of the sick with pulmonary emphysema is you have yet to hear them laugh. My father when he wants something ( he`s deaf ) shouts at his caregiver ( my niece/his grand daughter ), " Marlene! Marlene! Marlene! " Or to me whose room is just next to our house, " Melvin! Melvin! Melvin!" . Every time he does this, our neighbors can hear him shout. It`s been this ever since he became an invalid. There are moments when you wish him de... We're all only human.

Care giving for elderly adults can be very difficult, and only people who have been through that sort of experience can fully appreciate what's often involved. Our four parents all lived into their nineties (90, 90, 92, and 98), and all but one of them required round-the-clock care during their final days. One had serious dementia, and two had congestive heart failure. By contrast, I had an aunt who was in extremely good health until the night that she peacefully died in her sleep at the aqe of 92. We jokingly call her our "role model." In our family, after seeing all of the tragic ways that people can spend their last days, my aunt's manner of death would be supremely preferable. I had a friend who cared for his mother in his home for almost a decade until she died at the age of about 100. After her death, I saw him in a restaurant and told him that I was sorry to hear about his mother's death. He looked at me with a totally straight face, and said without any trace of grief or sadness, "It was time for her to go." Many years later I better understood the manner of his response. My father was asking for me the whole day today because I failed to buy him his daily local newspaper, The Freeman and national newspaper, Philippine Star. I left the house early in the morning without informing him I be gone the entire day attending the start of Columbus Day celebration. Being yours truly the Grand Knight of St Joseph the Patriarch 5308 Mabolo Council. My father was responsible for me becoming a member of the K of C whose founder is Fr Michael Mcgiveny of New Haven, Connecticut, USA. I did not actually wanted to become one but my father who recruited always paid my monthly dues from 2009 until 2015 when I decided to pay these dues myself as well as finally attend the monthly meetings. My father after 20 years is an honorary member who is now exempted from paying the Council`s monthly dues. He no longer attend meetings when he got sick on June 2015. So I took over his presence. It`s said among fellow K of C is that my father wanted to become Grand Knight but enver became one. He was elected Chancellor, Faithful Navigator but never that position which I now occupy. As far as I know, The past Grand Knight held the position for seven consecutive years. There were no takers after that. You see, if you become Grand Knight by God`s grace you get to prepare a menu and buy food for lunch after the council meeting. My father I felt was never chosen the Grand Knight status simply because he has this reputation for spending money on alcoholic drinks ( beer, brandy and rum ) instead of food. Thus it earned the K of C Council in Mabolo the notoriety of whose members by majority are alcoholics.

Have you ever wondered how you would have spent the time and money you'd have had otherwise if he hadn't joined the Knights for you? Yes. My father wanted me to become a doctor so I became a doctor. He wanted me to become member of the Knights of Columbus so I became one. When he wanted me to play bowling with him, I practiced playing bowling so I could beat him. There were tennis rackets and golf clubs in the house. He wanted me to use them but I was not interested. Instead I bought a Spanish guitar when I was a teenager and played with it into adulthood and middle-age. Maybe my father wanted me to socialize because he was a social animal. He loved to attend parties, drink and dance. He joined social clubs e.g. Game Roosters Breeder`s Association, Cebu Medical Society, The Philippine Medical Association, the Philippine Academy of Family Physicians. He became a Councilor in our town Kasambagan. He really loves to interact with people. But me I was not born with it. I rather be with a friend or two. I am you can say a loner. I can be happy with myself being alone. Of course, I have to be with the wife. Otherwise she would think I have a number two. So when I became the Grand Knight my father thought I was not ready. Of course, I was not ready. How could I? I am not the kind who can talk non-stop ( my father does ) during meetings. I am not the leadership type. Maybe there are also Council members who want you to be yourself. What they want perhaps is your constant presence with them during meetings and affairs, a chit chat or two briefly. Yes, I think being a good leader is not your expertise at opening one`s mouth. Because I find it funny and laughable that when my friends/member knights start talking or whatever comes from gossips, jokes, from the latest local and national news. Seldom do I hear from them the kind of wisdom I want to hear and relate with. But that`s fine with me. I do not bring forward what I know spiritually. I do not chant aloud the Hare Krsna mantra. I don`t engage with them in non-duality/duality philosophies. I know that just being with these guys even in silence is enough to make them feel good.

I can relate to not raising the issues we write about on this forum with your social friends. One time a few years back I drove 60+ miles just to finally get into a room with other peeps with an interest in these ideas. It was well worth it, and if I ever get back that way I'll do it again. But it's an investment of time and effort. The internet is a game-changer, and despite how these questions of identity and spirituality can sometimes get peeps riled up, a place like this forum is sticky precisely because of how rare it can be to find other peeps that share the particular interests covered here.

Yes, Laughter. I call this forum a secret society forum because only people with the same interest on topics discussed here are free to write what they want to impart to others spiritually, the kind which others seem to understand, Well, I really do not know with other spiritual forums that discuss regarding this matter. I been with the yoganandaji forum, the spiritualforum.me.uk, etc. That to be in them you have to respect their point of views what they feel about their spiritual masters. Each telling a different view yet leads to the same thing, love of God. The realization that we are all part and parcel of that Consciousness makes us blissful. So, why worry be happy. Enjoy life. Not doing evil but by doing good.

I have been seeing so much self induced avoidable suffering in people that I am about to start evangilizing this stuff.
Lately, the pain of others and the relentless self induced cycling of that pain has been comming into my attention in a very visceral way a whole lot.

BUT I'm not willing to let manufacturers of junk/killer foods off the hook. IF our bodies are not getting reasonable nutrients, it cannot keep fighting off the poisons that these manufacturers put in the processed foods they sell in our stores...not to mention the pesticides used.

Alcoholic beverages cause liver cirrhosis. Animal fat/meat lead to cholesterolemia to coronary artery disease to heart attacks. So, it`s not just pesticides ( organo phospate poisoning ) and processed foods that cause organic diseases but the over indulgence of food and drinks which cause obesity. Fasting and physical exercise can help reduce the extra kilos of fat in the obese person . Smoking, too. Why can`t the government stop the production of cigarettes when it`s a known fact cigarette smoking causes lung cancer and pulmonary emphysema?

This seems very far-fetched. Like contortionist amount of effort to explain simple death so that it fits a more smiley narrative. IMHO. This sounds exactly like something one of my past probable selves from 25 years ago would have said. But there appeared a fork in the road about 20 years ago and I chose a different route of development. Since then we've been drifting further and further apart. But we are still in contact with each other. So I'm familiar with and understand such sentiments. With that fork you can have your cake and eat it too?

I've been wanting to respond to this since you first posted it, and thanks to an article on msnnews this morning, I can do a better job. I'm wondering how you expect people to utilize 'fasting and physical exercise' when those fat/obese folks are addicted to the foods, by design of the manufacturers - this isn't news, but for some very strange reason(s), we give the beloved 'food' manufacturers a decidedly undeserved pass. Unless you've been living in a cave with blinders on and your fingers in your ears, you can't ignore the fact that these corporations have been tinkering with all their processed foods to make you want more. That's called addiction. They add addictive stuff to their so-called food. Why do we allow it? Money, of course. But who is making this money: politicians mostly. If anything, we should've sued all the corporations that make these food-stuffs with all sorts of poison in them. I can attest to the addictive quality of these things because about a decade ago, I decided I had to go 'cold turkey' on Cheetos. Yeah, sounds funny, huh? I could NOT walk past the displays in the grocery stores because alarm bells went off in my head that I HAD to have them. It was that strong. Once I made the decision to swear off of them, it wasn't so hard. That meant I had to walk past them without reacting. It took a lot of will to do that and live with my decision. Not sorry I did, but in the past couple months, I decided it wouldn't hurt to buy a bag of two. I did, but it just proved that there's something hidden inside those neon-orange puffy things that twisted my arm before the decision to quit them. I was far more cognizant of the down-side to eating them: that stuff sticks like mad to your fingers, you can't just rinse it off - you have to wash with both hands to get that stuff off with your fingertips. Oh...anyway, on to the article on msn: "Unhealthy Ingredients: Monosodium glutamate, Yellow #6 It’s not your imagination: This orange, puffy snack melts the second it hits your tongue —a phenomenon food scientists like Steven Witherly have dubbed “vanishing caloric density.” And it’s definitely not an accidental quality of your chips, either. Food developers know that when foods melt quickly, it tricks the brain into thinking you're not eating as many calories. In turn, snackers wind up eating a much larger serving. The sound Cheetos make when you bite into them was also specially developed to get you hooked. The crunchy sound makes them taste more appetizing, likely because we associate the sound with freshness, according to a study in the Journal of Sensory Studies.
