Astute point seriously any answer to why? Michael Quite simply, Fear... Not only do peeps fear the truth, but they fear the fear... To the wise, fear, when properly looked at and explored through self awareness, can be a catalyst, for spiritual growth. But as you said, that which we avoid in fear is often the very thing encountered. Or as they say, what we resist, persists.

Fear is an emotional response to a thought. I am not my thoughts, I am not my emotions. I am the hurricane.

:-) Not at the present moment — clear skies with a nice south-westerly breeze.

You'd think that peeps would accept, clear skies with a nice south-westerly breeze....
But they always choose to worry(fear) about the hurricane.

Sometimes it does feel as if we don't have a choice. It comes in so strong and just overwhelms us — like a hurricane. But that's when we must leap, without thinking into our practice of mindfulness and find our center in the hurricane.

But that's when we must leap, without thinking into our practice of mindfulness and find our center in the hurricane. Yes... It comes because we have chosen it and like what E says, we resist it. Like you say, we must not resist it, but allow it, to be aware of how it feels in the body. Tight and restrictive, unlike love which is open and expansive. When looked at as an opportunity, rather than as something to resist, it gradually begins to dissipate. Until one day, when it arises, it is simply seen and let go of... Fear will no longer affect your inner peace. Of course you still have physical fear, you'll have to take shelter when the hurricane hits...

I have heard that deep down we remember everything that we need to remember for survival. We can trust that we will do what needs to be done in the moment it's called for. We won't have to think about it. We will be it.

Ya, we could say consciousness takes care of itself. Or we could look deeper and say the spontaneous doing is not separate from the experience.

...that when a person realizes they're not the mind/body complex, it frees up a whole lot of energy for 'being'.
Fears the first thing to go and if nothing else, that alone, makes life a lot more pleasurable.

Under (boring) clear breezerly skies I dream of hurricanes. In the midst of the hurricane I dream...... well.....actually.... I'm pretty much focused on the hurricane!

Yes, in the midst of a hurricane it would be wise to stay focused on the present conditions swirling around outside, and protecting yourself and loved ones, but, keeping to the stillness within.
