Hi,
I've noticed for a while now a pattern with me where when I am practicing I feel: "Ah this is it" (the correct practice) - "not like how they do it". Basically it's milking a feeling of superiority. It can be so subtle.
Anyone else notice traps in your path?

To me, there are nothing but traps for anyone. Seeking anything is a diversion that has to burn itself out and end in utter futility. Seeking enlightenment is the biggest trap of all. That which seeks is what is being sought. How could it ever find?

I find I'm always (whether consciously or unconsciously) looking for the 'next big thing.' could be a book or a realization or whatever it's always the next thing that will save me. such a trap, I know it, but it goes on with me or without me. what is real is unprovoked, comes unbidden, and leaves no trace.

1. I want to know where the heck I am in this process. Is my mind really going to be able to figure that out? 2. I want more wiz bang experiences so that I can tell myself I have confirmations of an inevitability. 3. I want to hurry up and get to the finish line so I get busy trying to figure out how to proceed. Trap!

That which seeks is what is being sought. How could it ever find? Enigma, Seeking enlightenment is a double bind-"That which seeks is what is being sought." You are correct in saying that it ends in utter futility. "I am enlightened," is another double bind to the individual claiming enlightenment.

Seems to me like the whole problem comes from being results oriented, which in turn comes from not really liking the practise at all and hence doing it only to achieve something. When I'm doing something I love I don't care about the result unless striving for a certain outcome is an inherent part of that activity. One can enjoy doing art and strive to make a good artwork, but if one does art mainly in order to surpass Picasso, then one is going to fail miserably.
So then how can you not be results oriented about something you don't want to do in the first place?

Yeah, if one can say 'I am a shadow in the noon-day sun, a dew-drop falling from a leaf into a pond, a snowflake on the tongue', then perhaps there is freedom happening to no-one.

But thats so boring! lol I remember when it began to dawn on me that books were not going to get me there. I had so much free time open up. Mysteriously Ive been able to get several procrastinated tasks resolved and I find myself going for walks in the park on a whim. Acting on whims is a very good sign.

Whats that song? "Sign, sign, everywhere a sign..." Its so out of my hands at this point and yet I still have these ego flare ups that thinks its responsible for doing things. Curse that ego! "Mysteriously Ive been able to get several procrastinated tasks resolved and I find myself going for walks in the park on a whim." Acting on whims is a very good sign.

My biggest trap thinking that peanut could wake herself up. Believing that there is a real me. And if that real me practiced hard enough it would happen. Not true. All an illusion.
