This paragraph caught my attention (which-came-first ? are the differences innate or does this region of the brain get stronger as you monitor your mental state)
I would bet on the latter based on my own experience and whats been discussed on this board.
What do you guys think ?

consciousness is not contained within the brain. and it always seems like researchers view the brain as the location for consciousness when, in my opinion, nothing could be further from the truth.

Hi Robert I agree with your statement. At my current level of understanding I would say consciousness doesn't need Brain but brain needs consciousness.
I think it would be helpful if there is a positive physical manifestation on the brain that is caused by practicing being conscious of consciousness (introspection). Some would have even more motivation to pre-pair the field for the possibility to wake up to what (is). As the article suggests.

run- what i mean is that what is sought is beyond mind. so the brain is a great tool for throwing open the doors and having a garage sale, a serious debris removal, and once all of the junk is gone the limiting ideas and thoughts that we have carried around for years. but always keeping in mind that brains, no matter how well trained they may be, will always be searching for that which is further. (to borrow a great word from a writer with whom i'm familiar) r.

Robert. I think that is a great explanation of the interaction of brain and consciousness. I think it is a great explanation, cuz it's the way i grok it too, maybe. :-) And yep, McKenna (or Whitman) 'Further' of course. I'm not seeking 'consciousness' but it does seem to be what's left when the dreck is cleared away and the mind is good for that process.

i couldn't agree more if we don't start clearing the junk, and then using zen's everyday awareness to see what the heck is actually going on were just wasting cash, time, and energy doing nothing. then we look up one day and realize that time and energy, things we used to have in excess, are running out. then the business of waking up gets real serious. no more hours spent debating things that don't matter one way or the other. robert
