So, anyone tried it? Use it? What do you think? For those who does not know what I'm on about, this woman Katie Byron got enlightened in some way and came up with this simple system to question your beliefs. Check out the website (or read some of the books). www.thework.com/dothework.php . You could probably read the "Little book" as a good intro. But to really understand the process you have to try it. I think it is pretty amazing! I read about it about a year back and realized it really helped, but without doing much about it. Now I tried it again for some reason. It is crazy how many stupid things I go around believing. I had some great freedom resolving some stuff these last days.

Yes, I've tried it and it was IMMENSELY helpful. In fact it changed my life in half an hour. It's not about enlightenment though. I think it is a very powerful psychological tool.

Byron Katie is one dynamic lady! A few years ago my wife, daughter, and I attended one of her workshops in Kentucky and met her and her husband, Steven Mitchell (who is the author of several books and one of the best translators of spiritual literature in the world), at a book signing. During the day, over the course of several hours, she had numerous people come onstage and work through their personal issues using her methodology. It was nothing short of amazing to watch. Her energy and creativity were mind-blowing.
On the other side of the equation it helps to remember that Katie is a unique individual and what she is pointing to lies beyond the methodology. I have met several people who have done "The Work" over an extended period of time, but today they are still doing "The Work." For those who don't know Katie's story the short version is that she was a very angry and unhappy woman who was filled with self-hatred and general despair. Her children were scared to death of her. At some point she checked herself into a halfway house and stayed in the attic (so as not to scare the other residents). One night a roach crawled across her foot and she had a dramatic awakening. She suddenly realized that she didn't have to believe her thoughts. Over a period of several months she used the questioning that she nows calls "The Work" to burn through her attachment to all ideas including the idea of personal selfhood. There may be other people who have successfully used her methodology to get free, but I have never met any. I have met some of the teachers who use her system, but none of them appear to be remotely as free as Katie does. I think that what happened in Katie's case was fairly rare. She was in such deep despair that her questioning took her all the way in a relatively short period of time. She reports that when she first began questioning her thoughts, she had to formally go through the steps that she teaches, but after a while, the process became automatic, and ultimately it became unnecessary. At some point she realized that there were no thoughts that needed to be believed, and she became totally detached from and free of the mind. Her book, "A Thousand Faces of Joy," provides a somewhat shocking account of what real freedom can look like.

I have done The Work and it had wonderful freeing results for me. I also facilitated its use with a friend, who at the end of the session looked at her original statements and said "that's ridiculous!"
I don't formally do The Work any more but anytime the word "should" shows up in my own thoughts or in something i hear or read, The Work automatically questions it and releases it. I've only read "Loving What Is" and one of these days perhaps i'll read some of her other books... (yet i find myself questioning the phrase "i should read them" *lol*)

She is amazing. Have done The Work with teachers who got certified by her. While it helped to see through some lifelong beliefs it wasn't what ultimately shook my foundation. Do plan on reading a A Thousand Faces of joy when we get home.

I dont really like going through all the steps in the Work so I use an abbreviated version ALL the time. I constantly ask "Is this true?". I have feeler intuitive tendencies so what happens after the question is more felt than anything else.

The Portal, kindness, gentleness, joy, fresh foods, plenty of water, silence, quiet time, meditation, movement, but more than all of these, appreciation and enthusiasm. If we abide in this things moment to moment, feeding the mind with good books and chats, feeding the body with fresh food, water, releasing all angers and judgements, and being centered, moving coming back, working through your day, returning to the sacred space again. Listening to your own inner melody - with your inner ears, and smiling, more playfullness, listening, waiting, allowing........ That concentration with the soul energy moment to moment unlocks a portal within you.... you will slip into that energy between the silence and the noise....... in that abiding place ......... the atoms of your whole physicality move ...... vibrationally you increase in velocity, so that by the end of the day .... 24/7 you breath...... in, source ... into every pore and part .... and out, release, gratitude, gentleness, love ...... Some time later you are pulled into that energy in between the in betweens ...... it is awesome sacred .... stillness......... For me it feels warm.......... I get silly smiling joyfullness, the inner music builds and the energy enfolds you. So we go about the world more often than not witness to the chaos..... simple chaos and overt .... the degree is watchable, the feeling the same. From time to time you bump another being IN THEIR SACRED SPACE ... the two of you, smile ...... sit .... observe....... feel it, that still quiet pond ..... it is such a place.....teehee Another post about Jacobson? ? took me on a journey of such tenderness ........ another book indicated by someone, pulled me in ...... like swimming in the quiet sea off the shore here ...... where we dive deep and find the cool dark place of nothing....... Within the guides smile and wave, the monk at the tree .......... has taken down his hood and his hair is grey bouncing tight curls down his shoulders, he is so ancient and has been with me all lifetimes. N'ataka my inner guide his crinkled face and skinny arms and thin body has been with me all my lives... and am his sister Fleet Feet the Spacedancer, becoming still NOW more patient and loving. The loveland the heartland .......... well it is as it has always been, love love love ........... teehee a cat here where I live is transitioning ...... he will leave soon and his smile is awesome.............. I see him often in his inner walking........ will go and read this suggested book..... it pulls ........ my interest........

Back in June I was in a Byron Katie workshop. It was interesting because as I went through the questions, I found my body resisting, sometimes to the point of rejection. Martha Creek, the facilitator said this is quite common.
The resistance subsides with practice.

I would guess most people don't want to, or don't dare to use it to question the really fundamental beliefs. It's probably something people use with some issue that is really bothering them, and then that's OK. They don't feverishly and systematically try to burn out all beliefs:) I'm gonna try it for a while and see what happens. If it's supposed to bring fundamental freedom I guess it isn't enough with a good tool, you have to be willing to surrender yourself aswell. If the individual is too afraid of that, no amout of work would help. Maybe thats the ingredient that is so rare.

Back in the USA
Well the country s not getting any nicer here. Panama much better energy wise. A friend signed up for the Air Force. A question they now ask when you join is if you were ordered to kill your own people would you and f answered no you cannot join. Yup happy USA.
Ok the Work. I like Bryon Kate I feel she is real as real can be. So the work can help you if you are not there yet meaning being still hypnotize in this world. But if you really know yourself you may find her work mostly the steps being very boring.
peace Michael
