I attended philosophy school classes for a time ‘night classes’. Beauty was the subject matter at entry level. Yes the required vase sat next to the teacher. There were not classes on subsequent nights with wilted flowers, no, merely replaced flowers.

It's interesting, your view on 'old fashioned version of coming to This' : ) Nowadays I am not looking or waiting for a teacher. It's like some things I have 'collected' over the years are neutralizing each other in me, a bit strange feeling. But I enjoy reading here. Thank you. (.....) If you take your photos to a teacher of photography he may see flaws or be in awe of what's presented to him or her. But he may say in an old fashioned sense get thrown out of a tavern and then take a picture Who knows you may be the artist beyond all artists That rare one who wakes up or has that creative edge to capture the stillness in art or photos or music Like zen art you always find a stillness a beauty the figures are in proportion to nature. When I was a child and my sister took me to the art gallery I asked her why the naked woman looked bigger than the trees and nature behind. And the art group laughed. But I was serious. It seemed the artist camera missed the beauty behind in the lens of a child. I am not an artist, I am just an average photographer! And I think it started because of being thrown out of a tavern long ago : ) (because there was a pressure at the beginning).
Sorry about the art group event. They should've listened to you. A child gives good advice. When I am with my daughter I imitate her - when she chooses to take a panoramic pic or make a video instead of taking a pic only, it always comes out as a good idea.
I am putting this one here, I like the colors a lot.

There were not classes on subsequent nights with wilted flowers, no, merely replaced flowers. As I wrote above, I didn't have the chance to listen to a teacher. But I heard that some lessons may be given at a 'real university'. I will check this year.

philosophy classes 101 beauty and the vase philosophy at 'open university' no class no vase Internet University - Philo 101 set out a vase place flowers view favourite teacher Homework: take artistic photo of flowers / setting if moved to do so. Share / discuss experiences of moment or teachings with forum friends if moved to do so or questions arise. Perhaps contemplate, write in notebook, meditate, take short moments of noticing, be in nature. Repeat.

I attended philosophy school classes for a time ‘night classes’. Beauty was the subject matter at entry level. Yes the required vase sat next to the teacher. There were not classes on subsequent nights with wilted flowers, no, merely replaced flowers. I took philosphy units that contextualised beauty (aesthetics) with morality, though someone once said, If I teach you philosophy you won't be able to grow flowers, but if I teach you to garden, a philosopher you'll become.

I was told many of the philosophy school students ended up at the yoga centre (next spiritual stop off the bus).

I went to this (below) place just to have a walk at the seaside.. but then saw the flowers and remembered what you wrote here : ) It's not much of an artistic pic but I liked the leaves on the pavement and the scenery behind the flowers. It was a bit difficult to include all. And it was a nice day, I found the colors more 'full' there, which was a bit away from my usual surroundings.
As for my favourite teacher.. I liked her mostly because she used to talk with her eyes : ) Always would catch me when I chatted with my desk friend. Very kind and intelligent lady, she still teaches I think - teaches English. (haven't done the place flowers in the vase thing yet)

(haven't done the place flowers in the vase thing yet) I love the contrast of the petals on flower and petals on ground, plus shadow play. Art is in the eye of the beholder. I did a zen photography course once, where we simply let the photo happen, and your photo reminds me of it. The beauty to be found within the isness. Perhaps those flowers don’t need to be inside a vase. Is it the flowers. Is it the noticing of the flowers. Is it the noticing of the noticing of the flowers. The colours being full, that is a thought about them, and also an unsaid experience. I did mean a spiritual teacher (re this board) but any teacher will do, and from the eyes is not to be frowned upon, of course. Even fallen petals and scenery that fills perceptions are teachers. Perhaps everything is a teaching where there is an opening .. what is there an opening for, well, there is nothing quite like an open ended question (no full stop on purpose)

(I use a vase only when I buy hyacinths and that's about twice a year : ))
And yes everything is a teacher. Here (in the pic) I like the people, too; there's always movement there. Every kind - flying birds and leaves in the wind, and the wind itself. I was curious about why only one flower was left but there were one or two white ones, too, I think.. Especially when they are full, the rose gardens are something, I hardly stop myself from getting over the fences.

when they turned the fans on at the hanging confetti art installation
through the artist’s view you are here and
nothing else is possible and
yes, nothing can be lost
