Why do atheists / materialists deny mystical experiences? A materialist atheist for example would conclude mystical experiences are not real, the materialist would say it was the result of a few chemicals in the brain and that they are a hallucination or delusion. I guess this is becuase they have never had a mystical experience themselves. It's been proven that many people who have had NDE'S, OBES, mystical experiences, Cosmic Consciouness etc who were atheist or materialistic changed after their mystical experience. Bring on the mystical experiences, if that is what it takes to wake up these materialists.

Everyone believes what they perceive from their experiences and what they have been programmed to believe. Their path/belief is just as good as anyone else's. Everyone believes in something: God, logic, science, self power, Law of Attraction etc etc, and it's all good and useful for those who use it.

They don't. They deny the validity of some of the claims that people make about the mystical experience itself and about the world.
Some atheists had a mystical experience and then became mystics. Some atheists had a mystical experience and remained atheists.
Maybe. But it's also because they have devoted and incredible amout of time and effort into studying how the human brain works and found out that most experiences correlate with changes in the chemistry in the brain. Even the brain of someone who goes into nondual states of consciousness will show changes in its workings. So even if you have a transcendental experience, the physical brain will reflect this fact.

i disagree.. the mind is not chemicals in a brain. everything exists in mind, it is not mind existing in matter. there is no matter all is mind. you will not find a thought inside a brain. everything is consciouness.

Are you a Christian Scientist, Cabin? I think I was a natural born one, tho I don't have a need to go to any kind of church, temple, whatever, or belong to a group which believes in any one thing. I have read some of Mary Baker Eddy's book and was surprised to find what I had known since I was a child in there for the most part. Interesting religion. She must have scared the pants off the religionists when she surfaced originally! LOL

Yes i am a Christian Scientist.
I spent some time going over and researching many religions, while i do respect and like many religions, Christian Science is the one that i believe is perfect. It is very special. It is truthful and it is all about love.

I see things are changing for you Cabin. It was only a few weeks ago you said: Am i a Christian Scientist?
No im not peter becuase even though i agree with Christian Science on alot of things i have some different ideas, i carry the christian science book around with me. I know the book has alot of truth in it and i follow alot of it's teachings but I don't want to label myself or limit myself to one system. Im very open minded. You've decided to label yourself.

Yes Peter i did say that a few months ago. Since then iv done quite abit of reading, done alot of research, i have come to the conclusion Christian science is right for me. I am open minded, but when i look into religions im not always 100% agreeing with them, but with Christian Science i am 100% agreeing with it. Go and read the book Science and health with keys to the scriptures, you will see what im talking about. People on this forum are pasting in spiritual teachers from india etc who i have never heard of iv tried to read some of their stuff but i don't have a clue what there on about. Mary Baker Eddy and Christian Science desevers looking into, it is easy to understand, even more you can live it. It is not only a religion it is a science. Millions of people have just been cured and helped by reading the book, can you say the same for many other books? Also this forum seems to very focused on 'non-dualism' well read alot of my posts i have tried to explain many times Christian science is nondualistic. Evil, sin, death is all unreal. Good (God) is reality. God bless

I don't think all atheists deny mystical experiences. They just wouldn't think of them as supernatural. Nor would they accept any one else's account of a mystical experience as objective fact that one should march to. But some atheists are so stuck in a reactionary loop with theists that they would belittle the very idea that there was any value to a mystical experience, and they might even look down on another for having it.
