If you were stranded on a desert island and could only have one book on spirituality, which book would you choose? My choice would be "I am That" by Nisargadatta

Any one book would probably just have mired me in more concepts ultimately.
If you like "I am That," try Perfect Brilliant Stillness by David Carse. Same thing, but clearer in my opinion.
Other than the book mentioned above, I would take 1,000 Names For Joy by Byron Katie and the trilogy by Jed McKenna (Spiritual Enlightenment: The Damndest Thing if I had to choose who). The dichotomy of those two books talking about the same thing from opposite angles was amazing helpful and powerful for me.
Maharishi Mahesh Yogi answered this question, and I like his answer a lot too. He said he would take the Bhagavad Gita to learn how to get there, and the Shiva Sutras to verify his experience. That's also an awesome choice if you ask me.

This is a tough question to answer because there are lots of books that have touched me, even books I've only skimmed through. Like LightMystic, I really liked Jed McKenna's books. Whether or not reading them was an enlightening experience they were very entertaining. A very very short book that touched me profoundly was a book I read on a train this year on my way to Montana. It is called Life at its Best by Meher Baba. The only thing I regret about the book is that it is not longer, but it is a book that I hold close to my heart for touching me the way it did. I had also experienced a synchronicity while reading it which meant something to me. If anyone is interested in reading it, it is offered for free from the Meher Baba Trust at www.ambppct.org/meherbaba/Book_Files/Life.pdf There are other free books by him at www.ambppct.org/meherbaba/online.phpOther books that have touched a very deep part of me are some of those written by Llewellyn Vaughan-Lee. These books are packed with profound mysticism. Most of his books are offered for free in their completeness through the Golden Sufi Center's website and also on Google Books - books.google.com/books?as_auth=Llewellyn+Vaughan+Lee&source=an&sa=X&oi=book_group&resnum=6&ct=title&cad=author-navigational One book in particular, namely, Love Is a Fire: The Sufi's Mystical Journey Home, really helped move me towards what I think of as a very enlightening experience. (I know everyone says you can't experience enlightenment from reading books alone, but this book must have been the straw on the camel's back, for shortly after skimming it I had my experience.) I have really only begun to scrape the surface of spiritual texts and I hope to spend the rest of my life reading such books because the genre is really the only kind that fulfills me. There are so many more books from various traditions that I want to read. P.S. Recently I read The Tao of Pooh and enjoyed the lighthearted wisdom. Currently I'm reading The Te of Piglet. I'm also reading a book called 50 Spiritual Classics that has kept me very interested and saying, "AH yes, I feel that to be true!"

Thank you for mentioning that Meher Baba book. He says it very well. I'm enjoying reading it.
