here i am, i've spent years studying, learning, and unlearning. intellectually i know the words. i am not skilled enough to write clearly about what i can sense, looking through me impassively watching the circus. is there such a state as abiding (living all of the time) THAT? not in THAT because THAT is not spatial or a thing or a place. can there be a state, while still living, in which one effectively abides THAT. or is it more of living a human life with the knowledge, sitting on your shoulder whispering in your ear, that you are just watching a movie. or does one simply stop identifying with the ego until it simply slides away not really needed anymore. if abiding non-dual awareness is possible but not really practical in this world would someone give me a heads up. thanks, r.

There has never been anybody living your life, so if you were to stop pretending that you are, it will carry on just fine without 'you'. Quite a bit better in fact.
There can be an issue of trust involved, which can be interesting to play with. The question may arise, if 'I' don't interfere, will the thoughts that 'I' need arise spontaneously? Typically, we believe that we must be vigilant in order to protect ourselves, but this is a belief we grasp in order to reinforce our sense of independent control. We could say that the mind/body is part of nature, and nature knows how to support itself, and is unopposed in this. It doesn't mean that everything will happen the way we want it to happen, since nature doesn't recognize the reality of most of those wants, but this is actually a good thingy.
In case it's not clear, I'm suggesting the possibility that the functioning of the mind/body is really none of 'your' business anyway. It's functioning as part of the thoroughly integrated movement of the totality of nature.

THAT is not a state...THAT is beyond and through all states. When the ego is seen through for the mirage it is...and it is realized that all there ever was, is, and will be is THAT...then there is abiding THAT (using your words). For the "you" (yes, some ego remains...and is necessarily to live in the word) no longer causes confusion or is identified with...and all that remains is THAT. The forms (ego, body, objects in the world) no longer are "other".

thank you both for your answers. when discussing issues such as these i the limits of language become apparent. i do see that THAT is not a state. and the functioning of my mind and body are "none of my business". it's the limits of talking about something that there's really just nothing to say about "it". i see that it is also just becoming comfortable or accustomed to staying out of the way not blocking the view. thank you all.
