Where is compassion in relation to your enlightenment. Of all the talk about enlightment I rarely see it mentioned, yet is not compassion an integral quality of enlightenment?
We are acutely aware of our own suffering, yet do we feel the suffering of all living beings to the degree that we feel our own?
Should not compassion be as natural as breathing when we become enlightened? To first feel the suffering of all living beings and then to act to relieve their suffering?
Is not compassion the manifestation of LOVE in you?
Does not enlightment show you that you are that LOVE?

I don't need to be enlightened to answer this one. Why would you want to feel the suffering of all living beings or any living being for that matter. Would you want to experience being gassed alive in a concentration camp or maybe you'd like to be raped to feel what suffering beings feel. Do you get what I mean? You don't have to feel their suffering to help and can you really help? You may be able to bandage their wounds but can you cure them. Can an enlightened being make me enlightened and end all my suffering? Or must I walk that path alone and maybe some guidance will be provided.
I also read somewhere that compassion can also be harsh, like a surgeon operating on you. It may hurt but it's for your well being although you may not know it at the time because of the pain it causes.
So I think enlightened beings feel compassion and act on it all the time although we may not know it.
Free will also gets in the way. I can't force a cure on you if you're not ready and willing.

fear, thank you for your reply.
To feel the suffering of others is not the same as enduring it.
Enlightened beings have helped and cured others.
An enlightened being can feel your suffering and lead you to enlightment, thereby ending your suffering. Yes compassion manifested as LOVE can sometimes be harsh if that is the only way to relieve your suffering.
If you think that enlightened beings act on it all of the time, for example, your own suffering, without your knowledge where does your choice to accept or reject their act come in? where is your free will? Of course if you have knowledge of their act your free to chose.

The way I enjoy looking at it is that Compassion is saying YES! to life on a deep level, an outpouring of the heart. This can look like anything on the surface, and, although it always ends up being right for the situation, I can never predict what that will look like. That makes it fun.
