A few years Steve wrote about the Reticular Activating System in the brain. I had never heard of it, but it was exceptionally interesting. I looked for a book, there are no books on the RAS (then, haven't checked recently). Just now looking at videos on how electricity operates in the body, I thought of looking for a RAS video, there are many. This one is pretty good, pretty short. It's your automatic filtering-of-incoming-sensory-data system. It explains a lot, even the current news cycle (this video doesn't, specifically, but implicitly).

Looking at brain videos I chanced on this, the Thousands Brains theory. The guy that originated this is exceptionally intelligent, he has written two books on brain processing. I think his name is Jeff Hawkins, I'll have to check on that. But he does nuts and bolts investigation of the brain. I read his first book and kept on the lookout for the second. I'd say he is the cutting edge on understanding how the brain works. Anything we are aware of has to go through brain processing, awareness-of is the end product.
