We don't have an Aramaic NT, the language Jesus spoke (we actually do, The Peshitta, it's actually the earliest NT we have). But there are some Greek words translated incorrectly. One of the most important is meta-noia (spell check won't let me spell it). In the KJV it's translated repent. So when you hear Christians say, you have to repent to be saved, they are speaking improperly. Metanoia means to change directions. Meta is the same word as in metaphysics. Metaphysics means to go beyond physics. Noia means mind, it means Nous. So metanoia means you have to go beyond your (ordinary) mind. So it means practically the same as gnosis. If you've been here long, you've heard that word. So Christianity isn't really about asking Jesus to come into your heart so you can be saved. There is another word, translated as confess. To confess means to see yourself as God sees you. IOW, to see exactly what you are. That's not so easy to do. So, confess and repent means to see yourself as you are, and decide to go beyond what-you-are, Metanoia means to change your mind. One other thing, the word saved, or salvation, is a healing term, it means to be made whole. I rejected the Christianity, Southern Baptist, I was raised in, starting about age 17, that took several years. When I began learning these things about age 24, I began having a whole new appreciation of Jesus, and his mission. So you can actually go back and reconstruct some of the things Jesus actually taught, not what we have from Chinese whispers.
