Hello to all..I am new to this organized level of the search for enlightenment. My search has been private for the most part and driven by intense suffering at times..some turn to religion, some to psychology and mental health promises thru drugs, etc etc...I have explored these conventional obvious avenues too but have always found them empty of light and life and, most importantly, love..in my teens I read Ram Dass' The Only Dance There Is' and in the forward is a quote by Dante: "I have been in that heaven....it will be my theme until the song is ended" ...this is my truth also...one glimpse lit me up when I was young and now, when I am an old lady, after a hard hard life, I am actively seeking to pick up the thread that will lead me back home..time is short and the online world and the massive mountains of information is daunting...I need very much to keep it simple and cannot believe that it takes a huge library and a billion books and teachers to point me home...I simply haven't the inclination or time or intellectual capacity to hold it all. Blessed be to anyone out there who would resonate with this and be my friend and, perhaps, guide...I have no one to discuss these matters with...

Life moves through the rollercoaster of happy and unhappy. That's fine. But too much of unhappy leads us to the suffering. Too much of suffering brings too much happiness. Just watch whether you are experiencing this rollercoaster in your life. If you are able to find this rollercoaster in your life, you may relax and watch while it unfolds, height of both the sides automatically comes down.

Happy and unhappy are just polar labels, expressed by mind, of the same movement. They are always relative and the degrees always shift, change, etc depending on context, the conditioned mind, and one's depth of awareness of the mind. Too much unhappy is just extreme unhappy, which is usually indicative of someone who is already suffering. An example might be that if one ignorant of one's conditioning, is unhappy with their present state of affairs, and they then suddenly experience something terrible, they go further into depression. The core of most peep's conditioning is the belief in a separate self, which is actually at/near the root of suffering, from which such pain and unhappiness can overrun the psyche. That said, it is often in one's darkest hour that one can finally SEE.

You don't need one single book to find your way home. In fact, as experience shows, the more books you consume, the less likely you will find your way home.

No, It's not a mere label, it's a feeling. We can easily know whether we are happy or unhappy but the content of the story could be anything. Talking to a beautiful lady might make you happy but torturing others might make a sadist happy so story could be anything but feeling matters.
yes, clearly so.
Conditions might get altered when the ups and downs of the roller-coaster comes down. When one knows that he is in the ride of roller-coaster, he automatically starts to react very less because he intuitively knows that people and situations are not responsible for what's happening(Knowing that everything moves as one). Once one sees the truth of everything moves as one, illusion of separation is over.

Are "you" (on) the roller coaster, or is it coming and going? Many fear/avoid the downs and seek/love the ups, never understanding, much less KNOWING.

That's exactly what I am saying. When one seeks/love the ups as you say, they are creating the deep down side. Not when they allow the down side as it is.

As in Gopal is the experiencer, and you identify as that experiencer? To some extent, sure, but not so sure about what you mean by "creating the deep down side" via a mere mentally and conditionally derived seeking of pleasure. Are you saying the overall ignorance of the dynamic of the mind's fundamental duality is the issue, that the seeking of one "creates" the other, or something else?

As in Gopal is the experiencer, and you identify as that experiencer? I was thinking myself to be an actor in this world, which means I choose, decide, create. But later I came to know creation arises from me. My clarity has the power to change the world, there my identification shifts from actor to creator of what's arising. I am not creating anything from my conscious level.
Human nature is to avoid the suffering, seek the pleasure. But only when I have noticed the roller-coaster, I stop seeking pleasure and stop avoiding the suffering. And that's when the ups and down side of the roller-coaster came down.

Change is the flow, and the perceived you is in that flow of impermanence. One way to point to IT, is to assume there is only ONE ACTOR playing many roles in the drama/movie playing out on the screen of Consciousness. Great, this can be conducive to settling into Presence. You can then tinker with and contemplate more openly how much "dream character you" there is when your lovely daughter does something that blows your mind.... and not be too . 😊 Preferences (even pleasurable ones) aren't to be eradicated, just to be understood and seen for what they are. But yeah, the folly of trying to pick up E's one-sided stick comes to mind.
