Previously, a thread was started on "Poetry", and interestingly, while I was away and roaming, a recurring thought of an idea to begin a thread on "Lyrics & Verses" of songs/poetry entered my noggin. It would be songs that people had come across that pointed to some of the subtleties of what we discuss on this board.
So, instead of just throwing it into that mix (which seems more like original poetry), I decided to start a new thread. Then perhaps people could then find the songs and give them a listen. I've always thought music (of spheres) was good at accentuating tones of a message. In fact, exploration of music/tones/phenomena was another of the things I did in my beanfield house I've mentioned before.
Anyway, feel free to post whole songs, verses from songs, and even some small commentary, if you'd like. Please be sure to include the artists' names for ease of reference!

With the passing of a family member over the holiday season, I started to listen to this song and only then started to listen more closely to the lyrics and contemplate what they were pointing to.
So much Love in the world,,,,and Nothing,,,Always,,,,As It Is. Perfect. Free.
BTW, I enjoyed this song much more with a nice set of headphones drifting/dissolving into Presence. It's All Good. ______________________________________________________
Love Itself by Leonard Cohen
The light came through the window, Straight from the sun above, And so inside my little room There plunged the rays of Love.
In streams of light I clearly saw The dust you seldom see, Out of which the Nameless makes A Name for one like me.
I’ll try to say a little more: Love went on and on Until it reached an open door – Then Love Itself Love Itself was gone.
All busy in the sunlight The flecks did float and dance, And I was tumbled up with them In formless circumstance.
I’ll try to say a little more: Love went on and on Until it reached an open door – Then Love Itself Love Itself was gone.
Then I came back from where I’d been. My room, it looked the same – But there was nothing left between The Nameless and the Name.
All busy in the sunlight The flecks did float and dance, And I was tumbled up with them In formless circumstance.
I’ll try to say a little more: Love went on and on Until it reached an open door – Then Love itself, Love Itself was gone. Love Itself was gone. _____________________________________________________

It seems like the unconscious (or whatever you wanna call it) likes to communicate with music and lyrics. First time I clearly noticed it was after I had a godawful day at work, leaving me in a dark place. Next day was great again. I woke up in the next morning with the refrain of a No Doubt song: "Are you happy now? How is it now? Are you happy now? Are you happy?" Link: www.youtube.com/watch?v=uf0JeQ3JjMoMost recent example is from last week when I was buried in work, the deadline was so close and I couldn't get nothing done properly. So I'm sitting there being desperate and feeling sorry for myself as Roxy Music's song "More than this" pops up from nowhere: "More than this, you knoow there's nooothiing. More than this, tell mee ooone thing. More than this, ooh there's nooothiing." For some reason that gave me confidence, now the project is finished and I'm really happy with the outcome. This one refers to the sometimes desperate nature of the search.
Hoobastank - Crawling In The Dark
I will dedicate And sacrifice my everything for just a second's worth Of how my story's ending And I wish I could know if the directions that I take And all the choices that I make won't end up all for nothing Show me what it's for Make me understand it I've been crawling in the dark looking for the answer Is there something more than what i've been handed? I've been crawling in the dark looking for the answer Help me carry on Assure me it's ok to use my heart and not my eyes To navigate the darkness Will the ending be ever coming suddenly? Will I ever get to see the ending to my story? Show me what it's for Make me understand it I've been crawling in the dark looking for the answer Is there something more than what i've been handed? I've been crawling in the dark looking for the answer So when and how will I know? How much further do I have to go? How much longer until I finally know? Because I'm looking and I just can't see what's in front of me In front of me Show me what it's for Make me understand it I've been crawling in the dark looking for the answer Is there something more than what i've been handed? I've been crawling in the dark looking for the answer

This one seems to push at the reasons of the mind and how its thoughts can really be so divisive and/or twisted into such small corners of view...Perfectly so. IT is all that is within, around, beyond, etc....the very light, sound and air. This song seemed to hit the spot once after I had read Jed McKenna's first book. Again, listen with headphones and play it loud!! haha
Planet Telex by Radiohead
You can force it but it will not come You can taste it but it will not form You can crush it but it's always here You can crush it but it's always near Chasing you home saying Everything is broken Everyone is broken
You can force it but it will stay stung You can crush it as dry as a bone You can walk it home straight from school You can kiss it, you can break all the rules But still Everything is broken Everyone is broken
Everyone is, everyone is broken Everyone is, everything is broken
Why can't you forget? Why can't you forget? Why can't you forget?

I posted these lyrics in another thread: Syntax - Bliss There was a time when we were cradled one on one And now I find that all creation is undone I'm throwing out all of these thoughts that are not mine I'm building up you're coming down I'm losing time And now I've found some solid ground I thought I'd drowned but now I'm found And on the lips of life I kiss I find I'm here this place of bliss It's better now you'll find that life is on your side And you know of glory days the vibe you cannot hide I'm giving you the chance to make it all alright Baby come on walk with me I know the futures bright When you dream of themes that drive you to feel insincere Think again you know that all those feelings are just fear When you're trilled by ego hits you think you're on a high You should know deep down inside it never satisfies www.youtube.com/watch?v=himYtuXrLC4I don't know what the song is really about.. but it's very good. Even better song from Syntax that most people "click" with though is Pride: www.youtube.com/watch?v=HkpXGMPwf2c&feature=relatedIt is so good that it's a spiritual moment no matter what it is about.. I don't know:)

I had played this Bob Dylan song quite often, but it wasn't until I had slipped into a state of mind that I sort of interpreted it as being in line with how fearless I felt about ALL of it when I saw that I could actually SEE.
A Hard Rain is Gonna Fall- last verse
I'm going back out, 'fore the rain starts a-fallin'. I'll walk to the depths of the deepest dark forest, Where the people are many, and their hands are all empty, Where the pellets of poison are flooding my waters, Where the home in the valley meets the dark dirty prison, Where the executioner's face is always well hidden, Where hunger is ugly, where souls are forgotten, Where black is the color, where none is the number. And I'll see it and tell it and think it and be it. And reflect from the mountains so all souls can see it. And I'll stand on the ocean until I start sinking. But I'll know my song well before I start singing.
And it's hard, hard, hard, hard -- it's a hard rain's a-gonna fall.

Another Dylan song that, when interpreted through the symbolism, metaphors, and the like, seems to resonate with a few really cool spiritual themes is this one (new begninnings, not sleepy, impermanence, letting go, illusory sense of time/knowledge/self, etc.). Many of the ideas clicked one day when I was drinking rice wine and had just started to flirt with an electric guitar (I usually play around on an acoustic), and not really knowiing what I was doing, I turned up the distortion and played the song rather "hard and up tempo". Somehow, it seemed that more of the meaning just started to "make itself known",,,or at least that how it felt.
Mr. Tambourine Man
Refrain Hey! Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me, I'm not sleepy and there is no place I'm going to. Hey! Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me, In the jingle jangle morning I'll come followin' you.
Though I know that evenin's empire has returned into sand, Vanished from my hand, Left me blindly here to stand but still not sleeping. My weariness amazes me, I'm branded on my feet, I have no one to meet And the ancient empty street's too dead for dreaming.
Take me on a trip upon your magic swirlin' ship, My senses have been stripped, my hands can't feel to grip, My toes too numb to step, wait only for my boot heels To be wanderin'. I'm ready to go anywhere, I'm ready for to fade Into my own parade, cast your dancing spell my way, I promise to go under it.
Though you might hear laughin', spinnin', swingin' madly across the sun, It's not aimed at anyone, it's just escapin' on the run And but for the sky there are no fences facin'. And if you hear vague traces of skippin' reels of rhyme To your tambourine in time, it's just a ragged clown behind, I wouldn't pay it any mind, it's just a shadow you're Seein' that he's chasing.
Then take me disappearin' through the smoke rings of my mind, Down the foggy ruins of time, far past the frozen leaves, The haunted, frightened trees, out to the windy beach, Far from the twisted reach of crazy sorrow. Yes, to dance beneath the diamond sky with one hand waving free, Silhouetted by the sea, circled by the circus sands, With all memory and fate driven deep beneath the waves, Let me forget about today until tomorrow.

Of course, I could be VERY wrong.....AGAIN!! HA! ;D

Thanks someNothing (nice to have you back BTW)
This part:
"Take me on a trip upon your magic swirlin' ship, My senses have been stripped, my hands can't feel to grip, My toes too numb to step, wait only for my boot heels To be wanderin'. I'm ready to go anywhere, I'm ready for to fade Into my own parade, cast your dancing spell my way, I promise to go under it."
To me, this is a beautiful expression of letting go.....

Hello every body - what a nice thread - thanks for starting it somenothing (and "A Hard Rain's Gonna Fall" is really a good one for me - I've always felt there are different images to be received from that song) (I like Syntax's "Bliss" too, that's a nice one) Well, this isn't subtle, but I find it to be a great bridge piece for starting a happy day in my studio with one chakra in the energysphere - I can still be attentive to my work, but enjoy sunlight showering over my head. I hope it's nice for someone else too, the music just picks me up when I hear that guitar ring out. www.google.com/url?q=http://s0.ilike.com/play%23John%2BFogerty:Don't%2BYou%2BWish%2BIt%2BWas%2BTrue:44006780:s119996.23251.11738885.1.1.13%252Cstd_b73d9ec44c7a3eb039d78ff83305bf30&ei=70lwS-3_LoOGnAfm142pBg&sa=X&oi=music_play_track&resnum=2&ct=result&cd=2&ved=0CBAQ0wQoATAA&usg=AFQjCNE56ujujBlY90Qw6rmw_sDZ5MxqRA John Fogerty - "Don't You Wish it was True"I dreamed I walked in heaven, just the other night There was so much beauty, so much light Don't you wish it was true Don't you wish it was true An angel took my hand Said you don't have to hurry Got all the time in the world, don't worry Don't you wish it was true Lord, don't you wish it was true But if tomorrow everybody was your friend Anyone could take you in No matter what or where you been But if tomorrow everybody had enough The world wasn't quite so rough Lord, don't you wish it was true He said the world gonna change and it starting today There will be no more armies, no more hate Don't you wish it was true Don't you wish it was true And all the little children, will live happily They'll be singing and laughing, in sweet harmony Don't you wish it was true Lord, don't you wish it was true But if tomorrow, everybody under the sun Was happy just to live as one No borders, no battles to be won But if tomorrow everybody was your friend Happiness would never end Lord, don't you wish it was true But if tomorrow, everybody under the sun Was happy just to live as one No borders, no battles to be won But if tomorrow everybody was your friend Happiness would never end Lord, don't you wish it was true Lord, don't you wish it was true Writer : FOGERTY Copyright : Lyrics © Sony/ATV Music Publishing LLC

see the animal in his cage that you built are you sure what side you're on? better not look him too closely in the eye are you sure what side of the glass you are on?
see the safety of the life you have built everything where it belongs feel the hollowness inside of your heart and it's all right where it belongs
what if everything around you isn't quite as it seems what if all the world you think you know is an elaborate dream?
and if you look at your reflection is that all you want it to be? what if you could look right through the cracks would you find yourself - find yourself afraid to see?
what if all the world's inside of your head just creations of your own? your devils and your gods all the living and the dead and you're really all alone?
you can live in this illusion you can choose to believe you keep looking but you can't find the woods while you're hiding in the trees
what if everything around you isn't quite as it seems what if all the world you used to know is an elaborate dream?
and if you look at your reflection is that all you want to be? what if you could look right through the cracks would you find yourself - find yourself afraid to see?
This song really touches something deep inside.......Maggie

The posts have reminded me of:
Everything In It's Right Place By Radio head
Everything, everything, everything, everything.. In its right place In its right place In its right place In its right place
Yesterday I woke up sucking a lemon Yesterday I woke up sucking a lemon Yesterday I woke up sucking a lemon Yesterday I woke up sucking a lemon
Everything, everything, everything.. In its right place In its right place In its right place Right place
There are two colours in my head There are two colours in my head What, what is that you try to say? What, what was that you tried to say? Tried to say.. tried to say.. Tried to say.. tried to say.. tried to say...
Everything, everything, everything.. Everything in its right place
Also:
The Day the World Went Away By Nine Inch Nails
I'd listen to the words he'd say but in his voice I heard decay the plastic face forced to portray all the insides left cold and gray there is a place that still remains it eats the fear it eats the pain the sweetest price he'll have to pay the day the whole world went away

Hey all, thanks for the song list so far! I've enjoyed looking them up and giving them a listen. LM- yep, Bobby does a few great lines here and there....I've often wondered about how much he actually knew about some of his pointing...? Here's one from another great older band, The Velvet Underground. Used to wail this song on a good night! ;D I’m Set FreeI've been set free and I've been bound To the memories of yesterday's clouds I've been set free and I've been bound And now I'm set free I'm set free I'm set free to find a new illusion I've been blinded but Now I can see What in the world has happened to me The prince of stories who walk right by me And now I'm set free I'm set free I'm set free to find a new illusion I've been set free and I've been bound Let me tell you people What I found I saw my head laughing Rolling on the ground And now I'm set free I'm set free I'm set free to find a new illusion www.youtube.com/watch?v=wfzoyDOXfzY
