Finding a community

Finding a place to make a life is now my most important mission. I have lived and visited many places, inclulding Pokara, Katmandu, Isaan, Pattaya, Ohio, Boston and Connecticut--where I grew up. 

My interest stems from a peculiar family circumstance and tremendous efforts in exploring the spiritual dimension which resulted, intermittently in my life, in what most would label "incredible". Still, it is a subjective thing, spirituality, so I won't be going into these experiences since they are only relevant to my own person. Yet the one thing I can share with you all is that there is a higher vibration, a higher dimension that I am interested in manifesting in my life as much as possible. To that end, I am looking to live with a group in a community, a big house, a place where we can focus on our spiritual growth without being too righteous, without being to cool or too trendy. Just more or less living in a space like a Buddhist monk but not in Asia -- in America. I have lived for almost 12 years in Thailand and am very clear about the differences in our beliefs and societies. I'm no longer craving money and materialism but rather being in the moment, sharing my space, working together and being fully alive in a spiritual space. 

I am looking for people who are living this life or attempting to; the vision is more important that the reality for me, because we will get there. 

My interests are photography, professional scuba diving, music and singing ( I have a beautiful voice and need to sing because I feel the spirits like it), computer related activity and to the point: yogic activities including hatha yoga, intensive meditation and chanting. 

My successes are in both hatha yoga, nada yoga, pranayama and kundalini. I am interested in living in a spiritual place with spiritual people. And I want to continue scuba diving! 

Got any ideas for me? (have to have visibility in the water, don't like big fish I can't see sneaking up on me!)

Seeing yourself separate from the community you desire could be rectified by committing yourself in relationship.
I have found ‘this be like’ fast-track-zen
where treading-water is no more
and drowning revealing.

There are many places like what you're looking for in the USA, but they're all different. You'd have to travel around and find one where you resonate with the people and their particular orientation. There are Zen centers, Catholic monasteries, and also ecumenical retreat-type centers where a large house is the main focus, and where the people live and practice, but you'd have to look for such places near the kinds of lakes or bodies of water you like to scuba-dive in. You could certainly wait for someone to respond with a compatible situation, and like magic, a perfect living situation could come searching for you, and that would be one approach.

Another is to go out into the marketplace, seek out others who are compatible by affiliating yourself with or joining organizations or activities where you could meet others. Some organizations are more open-minded than others and that's where I'd look.

But then, the other side of the coin is that the 'best' living situation for you may not be the most compatible, friendly, peaceful, near a lake inhabited by only minnows. Who decides what you need vs what you want?

FYI: the best roommate I ever had in college was also a karate student who "taught me karate" on weekends by beating me up. It made me remember and face my fear of bullies from being raised in a tough neighborhood, that I thought I had conveniently buried in the past.  And for him I'll be eternally grateful!

Why look for a place when you have this forum to commune in? Just log in and you can reach anyone on the planet. You can come and go as you please. A cyber "retreat" that is accessible wherever you are. In that sense, it is eminently spiritual.
