Hello, everybody.
I've been reading this forum and site for quite some time and it is surely among my favorite places in the net. Now I've decided to join the company.
I live in Moscow, Russia, I am 22 years old, my life is a total mess and I want nothing but enlightenment or natural state or whatever you like to call it. I never had any big mystical experiences. The whole story started in the sacred place in the north of Russia. I was not at all interested in any formal spirituality at the moment. I say "formal" because I always enjoyed thinking about the nature of the Universe, pondering on eternal questions with no answer, I was kind of a philosopher. So, the moment.
For a second I felt something very simple and hard to describe at the same time. The closest word in our language is, of course, love. But it was not love at all. Everything was just right for the moment and a very vague thought came to me at that very instant which I later found beautifully expressed by Sri Aurobindo: "What now we see is a shadow of what must come". And it was the end. Till that moment everything in my life was fine, you know. I had everything. But after the described event happened everything was destroyed. I needed nothing but you know what. It continues to this day. And I hardly doubt I will ever become anything. That's all. Thanks for listening.

Hi Russian Dude. Welcome aboard! You wrote, "I hardly doubt I will ever become anything." Well, that is wonderful, because if you ever became anything, it would obscure what you already are. You said that during your experience "everything was just right for the moment." In fact, every moment is exactly like that, even when things seem like a total mess. To realize the perfection inherent in each moment, simply look and listen without doing anything--without imagining, thinking, reflecting, fantasizing, etc. Perceive "what is" through your body without trying to filter it through the mind. With a bit of luck, you may find that those eternal questions with no answers turn out to be eternal answers with no questions. LOL.
Where was the sacred place in North Russia, and what kind of place is it? What were you doing at that time? Have a great holiday season.

Thank you, zendancer.
It happened on the Solovetsky Islands. To be precise, on "Bolshoy Solovetsky Island", the first in size. Well, it is just an extremely beautiful place, what else can I say? Also, I recall a certain atmosphere of timelessness there. I did nothing at that time, just walked around alone or with friends.
And according your advice... Well, that's easier said than done, isn't it? And that's the whole problem. The mind just wouldn't shut up. I try some techniques though. There are some practices that calm the mind for a while. I recently started practising simple meditation which involves observing the breath (inspired by Linda Clair). But still the thing that works best for me seems to be the meditation based on D. Harding's experiments. So, we'll see where it all goes if goes at all.
