Why fix it when it`s not broken? Are the both of you (your and your wife) and your family and friends okay and well off, K. ? I'm enjoying the show today, mostly, I have no interest in fighting off all the love deniers any longer. They are so annoying. We come from the middle class, A. My wife is the secretary in my life. We get along quite well. In the past, I was the problem not them.

The Meaning of the Maha-Mantra
"Hare Krsna Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna Hare Hare Hare Rama Hare Rama, Rama Rama Hare Hare" This is the Hare Krishna mantra, or maha-mantra, the great mantra for deliverance. Composed of three of the holy names of God from the Sanskrit scriptures of ancient India, it is transcendental sound vibration. It is not ordinary sound. The word mantra comes from man (mind) and tra (to free). A mantra is a sound or prayer that frees the mind from the miseries of the material world. The three holy names in the maha-mantra are Hare, Krishna, and Rama. Hare is pronounced “huh-ray”. Hare means the energy of God. The Sanskrit word for energy is shakti. Shakti has a personal, specifically feminine, dimension to its meaning. So here, energy means the feminine aspect of God. Our spiritual master, His Divine Grace A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, explained that the name Hare refers to Mother Hara, otherwise known as Radha or Radharani. Krishna is pronounced with a short “i”. The correct pronunciation is KRISH-na, (not KREESH-na.) Krishna means the All-Attractive Supreme Personality of Godhead. There are many attractive qualities to be found in the world, and many people have some degree of one or more of these qualities, but the one who has all of these qualities in full and unlimited measure can only be God. He is the source of all qualities, and in fact of all things in existence. He is a person, the original person, and the source of all incarnations and manifestations of Himself and of His creation, so He is called not just God but the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Rama is pronounced to rhyme with drama, RAH-muh. Rama means the reservoir of all pleasure. If we try to find pleasure independently we will only find brief snippets and it will be mixed with misery. But if we tap into the reservoir of all pleasure, the Supreme Personality of Godhead Himself, by devotional service, we will be connected to the unlimited reservoir of all pleasure. glimpseofkrishna.com/mantra.htm

The Wonderful Effects of Chanting Hare Krsna By Sivarama Swami, from an article in the Hungarian “Back To Godhead” magazine last year.
The names of the Lord””Hare, Krsna, and Rama””are invested with His full potencies. Singing God’s names, therefore, is to contact Him through the medium of transcendental sound. Thus, the effect of chanting is the same as the effect of directly associating with the Lord. The following beautiful verse, written by Lord Caitanya, describes the seven effects the Hare Krsna mantra has on chanters.
ceto-darpana-marjanam bhava-maha-davagni-nirvapanam
sreyah-kairava-candrika-vitaranam vidya-vadhu-jivanam
anandambudhi-vardhanam prati-padam purnamrtasvadanam
sarvatma-snapanam param vijayate sri-krsna-sankirtanam
“Let there be all victory for the chanting of the holy name of Lord Krsna, which can cleanse the mirror of the heart and stop the miseries of the blazing fire of material existence. That chanting is the waxing moon that spreads the white lotus of good fortune for all living entities. It is the life and soul of all education. The chanting of the holy name of Krsna expands the blissful ocean of transcendental life. It gives a cooling effect to everyone and enables one to taste full nectar at every step.” (Sri Siksastaka 1)
Although many books have been written explaining the theological implications of this verse, the following is a simple summary of the seven effects of chanting Hare Krsna:
(1) The chanting of Krsna’s name is a purifying agent that cleanses our hearts of envy””the root cause of our descent to this world””and other bad qualities we have since acquired like lust, greed, and anger.
(2) As it purifies the heart, Krsna’s name also protects sincere chanters from any further contamination from the worldly energy and those effected by it.
(3) Chanting awakens pure devotion to Krsna, the soul’s dormant propensity to serve the Lord with love; and further chanting revives the loving devotion that qualifies one for the greatest good fortune””Krsna’s association.
(4) A result of acquiring devotion is that devotees become illuminated with spiritual knowledge. Further chanting matures that knowledge into realization, which in time reveals devotees’ original position in one of the five relationships with Krsna.
(5) As much as the heart is relieved of unwanted habits, to that degree we become devoted to Krsna; as much as devotion is firmly fixed in our hearts, to that degree we acquire realized knowledge; and as much as the heart is illumined by both devotion and knowledge, to that degree we taste spiritual happiness. In this way the ocean of bliss swells.
(6) Chanting frees conditioned souls of the illusion of identifying themselves with their body and mind, and establishes them in the cooling reality that they are eternal spiritual entities.
(7) When devotees finally achieve the perfection of chanting, they taste the full nectar of loving devotion to Krsna””a nectar that makes the bliss of liberation seem insignificant.

The Hare Krishna Mantra
The Hare Krishna mantra is a chant meant for enhancing consciousness to the greatest possible degree. Chanting the Hare Krishna mantra can give peace, happiness, God realization, freedom from repeated birth and death, and total self-fulfillment. Also known as the maha-mantra—great chant—it consists of three Sanskrit names of the Supreme Being; "Hare," "Krishna," and "Rama." The mantra is most commonly translated as, "O Lord, O Energy of the Lord, please engage me in Your service." It was popularized in the sixteenth century by Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, and spread worldwide in the late twentieth century by Srila Prabhupada. Can 'Hare Krishna' Chant Cure Addiction to Drugs?
Written by Samantha Gluck The global Hare Krishna sect has floated a new wing to counsel students who are depressed, demoralised and even addicted to drugs. The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) sect, headquartered in West Bengal's Mayapur town, says distressed students are getting back their zest for life by chanting "Hare Krishna" and listening to regular religious discourses. The sect's counseling centre, called the Youth Forum, is run at its premises in the city. "We started the forum a couple of months ago and the response has been tremendous," said ISKCON official Ananga Mohan Das. The forum is now visited by about 176 students "and the number is growing by the day". At these sessions, held every Sunday, students listen to discourses by ISKCON monks, chant hymns, meditate and discuss their problems with the monks. "The students come from the best of colleges and universities and also from very reputed families," Das said. Besides its endeavour with students, ISKCON is planning programmes for reformation in the state's jails. The sect wants to conduct regular religious sessions in jails in the hope that it would awaken spirituality in convicts and make them better human beings. The proposal, already submitted to the state government, is that ISKCON volunteers would introduce convicts to meditation and religious discourses. ISKCON monks want to distribute Hindu religious texts such as the Bhagwad Gita and hold its readings regularly. They also want convicts to chant "Hare Krishna". ISKCON philosophy says a convict is not to be blamed for his crime, but it is society that is responsible because it could not impart the right lessons to the sinner. www.healthyplace.com/addictions/articles/can-hare-krishna-chant-cure-addiction-to-drugs/

What is a devotee of Krishna supposed to feel while chanting Hare Krishna?
Many devotees have asked this same question of Srila Prabhupada and other senior devotees. At the beginning of our chanting, we have a sincere desire to explore the chanting. We begin to chant on the inspiration of the spiritual master and other devotees and we are deeply inclined to "do it right." This fresh, simple mentality usually offers some "taste" or inclination to chant carefully. We feel focused, enlivened, and concerned with chanting carefully and attentively. However, at the beginning stages of sadhana (spiritual practice) we mostly chant out of duty, on the order of guru, and whatever taste we experience is secondary. We have material desires and we're not really convinced chanting alone will make us happy. We chant in the morning but throughout the day our mind is attracted to millions of other things. As we progress, often we become more causal about the chanting. We expect that very quickly we'll see Krishna everywhere. When that's not the case, we become discouraged or mechanical about the chanting. It's difficult to focus the mind, yet we are compelled by the order of guru and the deep knowledge that chanting is what we have to do to purify ourselves and eventually get to know Krishna. As we progress further, and the heart becomes more pure, we begin to become free from unwanted things within the heart. Our chanting becomes deeper and our longing to understand Krishna through His name becomes more pure and sincere. Our desires for material things decrease. We become more focused. We begin to realize that the Holy Name has everything that we want, and that true happiness can only come from chanting Hare Krishna! From this point, we truly begin in earnest to chant the Holy Name. More and more, we begin to relish the chanting itself. We actually begin to develop a deep attraction for the holy Name that compels us to continue chanting. www.krishna.com/taxonomy/term/1744

Krishna Consciousness
Krishna consciousness, or bhakti-yoga, means how to act in harmony with ultimate reality—the Supreme Person. Bhakti—“devotional service”—is how the bhakta—“devotee”—and Bhagavan—“God, the possessor of all opulences”—relate. We're all naturally Krishna conscious. In illusion, we think we’re the center of the universe, and our bodies are our real selves. Krishna consciousness means becoming free from that illusion, and experiencing our true blissful, eternal nature. It's a process that works. Anyone can do it. Krishna consciousness is both a "practice" and the goal of the practice. The goal is to be Krishna conscious. The practice is to always stay conscious of Krishna. www.krishna.com/krishna-consciousness

Krishna Consciousness - A Philosophy for Everyone
The philosophy of the Hare Krsna movement is a non-sectarian monotheistic tradition. It may be summarized in the following eight points: 1) By sincerely cultivating an authentic spiritual science, we can become free from anxiety and achieve a state of pure, unending, blissful consciousness. 2) Each one of us is not the material body but an eternal spirit soul, part and parcel of God (Krsna). As such, we are all interrelated through Krsna, our common father. 3) Krsna is eternal, all-knowing, omnipresent, all-powerful and all-attractive. He is the seed-giving father of all living beings and the sustaining energy of the universe. He is the source of all incarnations of God. 4) The Vedas are the oldest scriptures in the world. The essence of the Vedas is found in the Bhagavad gita, a literal record of Krsna's words spoken 5,000 years ago in India. The goal of Vedic knowledge--and of all theistic religions-- is to achieve love of God. 5) We can perfectly understand the knowledge of self-realization through the instructions of a genuine spiritual master--one who is free from selfish motives and whose mind is firmly fixed in meditation on Krsna. 6) All that we eat should first be offered to Krsna with a prayer. In this way Krsna accepts the offering and blesses it for our purification. 7) Rather than living in a self-centered way, we should act for the pleasure of Krsna. This is known as bhakti-yoga, the science of devotional service. 8) The most effective means for achieving God consciousness in this age is to chant the holy names of Lord: Hare Krsna, Hare Krsna, Krsna Krsna, Hare Hare Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare www.harekrishnatemple.com/everyone.html

The Story of Hare Krishna Mantra
George Harrison Made It Famous
In 1969, one of the Beatles, perhaps the most popular music group of all time, produced a hit single, "The Hare Krishna Mantra", performed by George Harrison and the devotees of the Radha-Krishna Temple, London. The song soon topped the 10 best-selling record charts throughout UK, Europe, and Asia. Soon after the BBC featured the 'Hare Krishna Chanters', four times on the popular television program Top of the Pops. And the Hare Krishna chant became a household word, especially in parts of Europe and Asia. Swami Prabhupada & the Krishna Consciousness Movement
Swami Prabhupada, believed to be a pure devotee of Lord Krishna, laid the foundations of the Hare Krishna Movement by coming to the USA at the advanced age of seventy in order to fulfill the desire of his own spiritual master who wanted him to spread Krishna consciousness in the Western countries. Aubrey Menen in his book The Mystics, while writing about Prabhupadas' proselytization in the US, notes:
"Prabhupada presented them [Americans] with a way of life of an Arcadian simplicity. It is no wonder that he found followers. He opened his mission on the Lower East Side in New York in an empty shop, fitted with nothing but mats on the floor. One of his earliest disciples, with the swami's permission has recorded an incident. Two or three were gathered together to listen to the swami, when an old grey Bowery drunk entered. He carried a pack of paper hand-towels and a roll of toilet paper. He walked past the Swami, placed the towels and the toilet paper carefully on a sink, and left. Prabhupada rose to the occasion. 'Look,' he said, 'he has just began his devotional service. Whatever we have — it doesn't matter what — we must offer to Krishna.'" The Hare Krishna Mantra
It was 1965 — the beginning of the "mid-twentieth century phenomenon" called the "Krishna Consciousness Movement". The "saffron-robed, dance-happy, book-hawking" Krishna followers burst upon the world with the refrain: Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna, Krishna, Hare, Hare, Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama, Rama, Hare, Hare History of the Hare Krishna Chant
Everyone knows this mantra as the anthem of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON). However, the origin of this faith dates back to 5,000 years ago when Lord Krishna was born in Vrindavan to save the citizens from the tyrant King Kansa. Later in the 16th century Chaitanya Mahaprabhu revived the Hare Krishna Movement and preached that all can gain a personal relationship with the Lord through sankirtana, ie, a collective chanting of the name of Krishna. Many religious leaders kept alive the faith of "leading the people towards god through devotional songs and selfless Bhakti" — the way of devotion, and Swami Prabhupada, the founder of ISKCON is the most notable among them. hinduism.about.com/od/temples/a/hare_krishna_iskcon.htm

Devotees and Health Rohininandana Dasa eat right, exercise, die anyway When I first lived in a Hare Krishna temple, another new devotee, whom I'll call "Bhakta Michael," won my admiration for his complete neglect of his health and hygiene. I had learned that the self was different from the body, but not knowing how to apply that understanding, I thought Bhakta Michael must be an advanced soul. As I read Srila Prabhupada’s writings, however, and understood more about the real transcendentalist’s attitude toward the body, I gave up my admiration for abuse in the guise of detachment. Prabhupada would sign his letters, “I hope this meets you in good health.” He was concerned that his disciples led a healthy life, including cleanliness, exercise, and a proper diet. When an early disciple became ill, Prabhupada advised him, “Your first business is to look after your health, because if you don’t feel well everything will be topsy-turvy.” He would sometimes tell sick devotees to suspend work and take complete rest. Sometimes Prabhupada would recommend special diets, which might include barley, fruit, milk, or raw cereals soaked in water overnight. Diet, after all, can be the mother of either health or disease. Prabhupada also gave medical advice for conditions ranging from a toothache or an infected finger to constipation or jaundice. If an illness was serious he suggested consulting “some approved physician.” To one disciple, who was making money for Krishna through business, Prabhupada wrote, “You must have the best kind of treatment available, and you can spend from the money you are collecting on behalf of Krishna.” As for surgical operations, he was wary. As far as possible, he said, operations should be avoided. But “when there is no alternative, of course we have to take shelter of such demonic treatment.” Prabhupada said that his own body was “a broken old house.” He would often say he could pass away at any moment. But he wanted his disciples to live for a long time “to push on this Krishna consciousness.” Above all Srila Prabhupada advised his disciples to depend upon Lord Krishna. “Actually, medicine is not the remedial measure for our bodily troubles unless we are helped by Krishna. Therefore, whenever there is bodily trouble we may adopt the prescribed methods of medical science and depend upon Krishna for His mercy.” As we may err on the side of neglecting the body, we may also be too concerned about pampering it. As a new devotee I was impressed by the vitality of a devotee who worked at our London restaurant, then called Healthy, Wealthy, and Wise. He looked the picture of health as he chewed ginseng and punched the till ("cash register") keys. We lived in the same house, and I felt awed by his vibrant health. He worked out on dumbbells, humidified his bedroom by putting damp cloths on the radiator, avoided eating salt, sugar, and milk products, took a variety of vitamins and mineral supplements, and “never” got ill. Seeing my struggles with one bout of flu after another, he convinced me to try a course of vitamins. I spent $45 and didn’t notice much difference except that my urine turned bright yellow. That devotee went to live in the States, and a year later I was sorry to hear he had contracted leukemia. It took only six months for his strong body to become an uninhabitable wreck. When he died I gave up my attempt to achieve perfect health. Srila Prabhupada referred to the body as vyadhi-mandiram, “a temple of disease.” He said that as long as we have a material body there must be some kind of trouble, but because the body is external we should not be very much disturbed by it. In a lecture Prabhupada was comparing disease to “Maya’s agent.” Even Krishna, he said, was attacked every day by Maya’s agents, what to speak of Krishna’s devotees. “But,” he continued, “Krishna promises, ‘My devotee is never vanquished,’ so therefore our business is to become His devotee. Then everything will be all right.” www.krishna.com/devotees-and-health

Physical & Mental Health
Why do we have nightmares? They can be so painful. What does it mean if we see Krishna in our dreams? by Laksmimoni dasi When we put hellish sights and sounds into our head we experience nightmares. Unfortunately this material world is like a nightmare, and it's only by spiritual life that we can escape from it. The regular happenings of material life, however, such as birth, death, old age and disease, can cause us nightmares, but we suffer even more if we watch and hear heavy material information. The best thing is to read scripture and chant Hare Krishna. When we do this, we get a clear perspective on what's happening in the material world and it doesn't affect us as much. Therefore we won't get so many nightmares. Also it is said that sometimes we live out our ideas and fears through dreams and nightmares. Fear or attraction to a circumstance or person, anticipation or dread of an event, may cause us to have a nightmare or dreams. If we take the material world too seriously it can hurt very badly. Similarly, if we take nightmares as reality they can hurt us badly. But if we keep things in perspective it can help. If the nightmares are happening again and again and causing difficulty, it might be beneficial to get professional help to see what's the cause and try to eliminate it. Sometimes devotees see Krishna in dreams. Certainly, the more we think of Him during our waking hours the more likely it will be that we'll meet Him in our dreams. And if we do, it is very fortunate. www.krishna.com/taxonomy/term/1734

Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare…
Once you’ve hear it you’ll never forget it. You may not know what the words mean–nevertheless there’s something captivating about the Hare Krishna chant. Is it the catchy tune or the fascinating way in which the words are repeated and reversed? People who chant Hare Krishna say both contribute to its appeal. But they know that the secret of the chant’s attraction is the quality of the sound itself. Anyone can take three words and make a song out of them, combining them in a cleaver way. But can that concoction be meditated on all day and all night? Would the chanters of those words report, as do the chanters of Hare Krishna, that the practice is freeing them from anxiety, opening up their minds to a liberated view of themselves, and investing them with blissfulness? No, of course not. The invented litany would only drive its creators to distraction. But the sound of Hare Krishna is so enriching that a whole culture has been founded on it. Furthermore the people who chant Hare Krishna are developing good character, gaining knowledge of both the material and spiritual worlds, and helping other people to be free from pain. There is, then, a special quality to the sound of Hare Krishna. What is it? The words Hare, Krishna and Rama have a special quality because they are seeds of spiritual consciousness. They are not a product of an earthbound language changing through the centuries. They are names of God, as ceaselessly energetic as God Himself. When you pronounce these sounds, you are propelled into your eternal position as a particle of spiritual energy, a person living in a transcendental nature. Hare Krishna reveals to you the person you really are. krishna.org/hare-krishna-hare-krishna-krishna-krishna-hare-hare/

‘Hare Krishna’ is the mantra which is known to maximum number of western seekers thanks to the commendable work done by His Divine Grace A C Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupad (founder of ISKON – International Society for Krishna Consciousness www.iskcon.com in spreading its awareness world wide. George Harrison, the popular singer of world famous Beatles group also devoted his entire life in spreading the awareness about this mantra. “A mantra is mystical energy encased in a sound structure and each mantra contains within its vibrations a certain power. But of all mantras, the maha-mantra (the Hare Krishna mantra) has been prescribed as the easiest and surest way for attaining God Realization in this present age.”— George Harrison (1943-2001), in his autobiography :’I, me and Mine’ This mantra is known as the Maha-mantra of Kailyug (the supreme mantra of Kaliyug – the present era of machine where truth and righteousness are at their lowest level. ) It has been said that by repeating this mantra with faith and devotion, one can attain salvation and peace of mind. ” harer nama harer nama harer namaiva kevalam kalau nasty eva nasti eva nasti eva gatir anyatha” – A Sanskrit verse from Brhan-naradiya Purana which means “In this age of Kali, there is no alternative, there is no alternative, there is no alternative for spiritual progress other than the chanting of the holy name, the chanting of the holy name, the chanting of the holy name of the Lord.” www.meditationiseasy.com/meditation-techniques/hare-rama-hare-krishna-mantra-for-meditation/

Therefore it should be understood that one is easily relieved from all sinful reactions by chanting the holy name of the Lord and chanting of His qualities and activities. This is the only process recommended for relief from sinful reactions. Even if one chants the holy name of the Lord with improper pronunciation, he will achieve relief from material bondage if he chants without offenses. Ajaamila, for example, was extremely sinful, but while dying he merely chanted the holy name, and although calling his son, he achieved complete liberation because he remembered the name of Narayana.
