The ego (1)

Seth: "You are aware, alert, and participating in many more realities than you know as your soul expresses itself through you. That consciousness of your usual daylight hours, the ego consciousness, rises up like a flower from the ground of the 'underneath', the conscious bed of your own reality. Though you are not aware of it, this ego itself emerges, then falls back again into the unconscious, from which another ego then rises as a new bloom from the springtime earth.
    You do not have the same ego now that you had five years ago, but you are not aware of the change. Ego rises out of what you are, in other words, it is a part of the action of your being and consciousness, but as the eye cannot see its own shifting colors and expressions, as it is not aware that it lives and dies constantly as its atomic structure changes, so you are not aware that the ego continually changes, dies and is reborn.
    The eye rises out of the physical structure. The ego rises out of the structure of the psyche. It cannot see itself, as the eye cannot. Both look outward - in one case away from the physical body, and in the other case away from the inner psyche to the environment. The creative body consciousness creates the eye. The creative inner psyche creates the ego. The body forms the eye in the splendid wisdom of its great unconscious knowing. The psyche brings forth the ego that perceives psychologically as the eye perceives physically. Both the eye and the ego are formations focused toward perception of exterior reality." (session 610)

"Whenever you have your own undivided attention you act as hypnotist and subject simultaneously. You give yourself post-hypnotic suggestions all the time, particularly when you project present conditions onto the future. I want to impress upon you the fact that all of this simply follows the natural function of the mind, and to dispel any idea you have about the "magical" aspects of hypnosis.

For five or ten minutes a day at the most, then, use natural hypnosis as a method of accepting desired new beliefs. during that period concentrate your attention as vividly as possible upon it for this time. Try to feel the statement in whatever way is possible--that is, do not allow distractions, but if your mind insists upon running about, then channel its images in line with your declaration.

The ego (2)

Seth: "You create your own reality. There is no other rule. I have spoken of 'you', yet this must not be confused with the 'you' that you often think you are - the ego alone, for the ego is only a portion of You; it is that expert part of your personality that deals directly with the contents of your conscious mind, and is concerned most directly with the material of your experience. The ego is a very specialized portion of your greater identity. It is a portion of you that arises to deal directly with the life that the larger You is living. The ego can feel cut off, lonely and frightened, however, if the conscious mind lets the ego run away with it. The ego and the conscious mind are not the same thing. The ego is composed of various portions of the personality - it is a combination of characteristics, ever-changing, that act in unitary fashion - the portion of the personality that deals most directly with the world." The ego (3)

Seth: "The conscious mind is an excellent perceiving attribute, a function that belongs to inner awareness but in this case is turned outward toward the world of events. Through the conscious mind the soul looks outward. Left alone, it perceives clearly. In certain terms, the ego is the eye through which the conscious mind perceives, or the focus through which it views physical reality. But the conscious mind automatically changes its focus throughout life. The ego, while appearing the same to itself, ever changes. It is only when the conscious mind becomes rigid in its direction, or allows the ego to take on some of its own functions, that difficulties arise. Then the ego allows the conscious mind to work in certain directions and blocks its awareness of others. And so it is from your larger identity that you form the reality that you know." Natural aggressiveness (1)

Seth: "What is usually forgotten is the real nature of aggressiveness, which in its truest sense simply means forceful action. This does not necessarily imply physical force, but instead the power of energy directed into a material action. Birth is perhaps the most forceful aggression, in your terms, of which you are capable in your system of reality. In the same way, the growth of an idea into temporal realization is the result of creative aggression. It is impossible to try to erase true aggressiveness. To do so would obliterate life as you know it. Any attempt to impair the flow of true aggression results in a distortive, uneven, explosive pseudo-aggression that causes wars, individual neurosis and a great many of your problems in all areas." The origins of the universe (1)

Seth: "The universe will begin yesterday. The universe began tomorrow. Both of these statements are quite meaningless. The tenses are wrong, and perhaps your time sense is completely outraged. Yet the statement: 'The universe began in some distant past,' is, in basic terms, just as meaningless. In fact, the first two statements, while making no logical sense, do indeed hint of phenomena that show time itself to be no more than a creative construct. Time and space are in a fashion part of the furniture of your universe. The very existence of passing moments belongs to your psychological rooms in the same way that clocks are attached to your walls. Whenever science or religion seeks the origin of the universe, they search for it in the past. The universe is being created now. Creation occurs in each moment, in your terms. The illusion of time itself is being created now. It is therefore somewhat futile to look for the origins of the universe by using a time scheme that is in itself, at the very least, highly relative." (session 882)

The origins of the universe (2)

Seth: "In certain terms, science and religion are both dealing with the idea of an objectively created universe. Either God 'made it', or physical matter, in some unexplained manner, was formed after an initial explosion of energy, and consciousness emerged from that initially dead matter in a way yet to be explained. Instead, consciousness formed matter. As I have said before, each atom and molecule has its own consciousness. Consciousness and matter and energy are one, but consciousness initiates the transformation of energy into matter. In those terms, the 'beginning' of your universe was a triumph in the expansion of consciousness, as it learned to translate itself into physical form. The universe emerged into actuality in the same way, but to a different degree, that any idea emerges from what you think of as subjectivity into physical expression.
    Your closest approximation - and it is an approximation only - of the state of being that existed before the universe was formed is the dream state. In that state before the beginning, your consciousness existed free of space and time, aware of immense probabilities. This is extremely difficult to verbalize, yet it is very important that such an attempt be made. Your consciousness is part of an infinitely original creative process." (session 882)

Seth: "Physical objects cannot exist unless they exist in a definite perspective and space continuum. But each individual creates his own space continuum . . . I want to tie this in with the differences you seem to see in one particular object. Each individual actually creates an entirely different object, which his physical senses then perceive."

Who the **** is Seth? (1)

Seth: "You have heard of ghost hunters. I can quite literally be called a ghost writer, though I do not approve of the term 'ghost'. It is true that I am usually not seen in physical terms. I do not like the word 'spirit' either; and yet if your definition of that word implies the idea of a personality without a physical body, then I would have to agree that the description fits me. I write this book through the auspices of a woman of whom I have become quite fond. Names are not important, however. My name is Seth. Names are simply designations, symbols; and yet since you must use them, I shall also.
    My readers may suppose that they are physical creatures, bound within physical bodies, imprisoned within bone, flesh, and skin. Basically you are no more of a physical being than I am, and I have donned and discarded more bodies than I care to tell. Personalities who do not exist do not write books. I am quite independent of a physical image, and so are you.
    If you believe firmly that your consciousness is locked up somewhere inside your skull and is powerless to escape it, if you feel that your consciousness ends at the boundary of your body, then you sell yourself short, and you will think that I am a delusion. I am no more a delusion than you are, and that may be a loaded sentence. I am an energy personality essence, no longer focused in physical matter. As such, I am aware of some truths that many of you seem to have forgotten. I hope to remind you of these." (session 511)

Who the **** is Seth? (2)

Seth: "I speak to those who believe in a god, and those who do not, to those who believe that science will find all answers as to the nature of reality, and to those who do not. I hope to give you clues that will enable you to study the nature of reality for yourself as you have never studied it before.
    What I will tell you has been told before throughout the centuries, and given again when it was forgotten. I hope to clarify many points that have been distorted through the years. And I offer my original interpretation of others, for no knowledge exists in a vacuum, and all information must be interpreted and colored by the personality who holds it and passes it on. Therefore I describe reality as I know it, and my experience in many layers and dimensions. To write this book I adopt from my own bank of past personalities those characteristics that seem appropriate. There are many of us, personalities like myself, unfocused in physical matter or time. Our existence seems strange to you only because you do not realize the true potentials of personality, and you are hypnotized by your own limited concepts.
    I am primarily a teacher, but I have not been a man of letters per se. I am primarily a personality with a message: You create the world that you know. You have been given perhaps the most awesome gift of all: the ability to project your thoughts outward into physical form." (session 511)

Seth on alien contact

"There is nothing any more strange in such contact than there is in my contact with you. But because you are so involved with camouflage apparent reality, contact with such intelligence will be a startling discovery. The contact made will be from one male to another, although the alien male, from another camouflage galaxy, will be more involved than you consider possible.

The actual telepathy contact with this alien intelligence will occur, your time I believe, not too far distant, perhaps by the year 2001. However, for reasons I will not go into, a hitch will develop of which your scientists will not be aware, at least in your terms. The intelligence that you contact will no longer inhabit that same universe by the time that the contact is made.

The energy that was liberated has already changed your national scene, and will continue to do so. Such massive liberations of energy will be used, but not in your lifetime, to begin to unify the whole planet, in peace. This will not happen before disasters also occur, but when it does happen it will represent the first such time within the planet’s history where there was peace with equality for all.

There have been various periods that were peaceful, but there was no equality. There have been countless other civilizations that have destroyed themselves in the planet’s past, and before this when another planet was approximately in earth’s position. There were however civilizations that endured, that outlasted their planet, and went elsewhere.

There were 9 planets once, grouped like jewels around the sun. They were evenly spaced one from the other, and they were evenly distributed outward from the sun. And this was the first system that new the race of man. These were in your corner of the universe, but in your terms they would have seemed to have drifted off so far that none of your instruments could ever find them.

Now. Existence uses form. When a planetary system is disrupted, in some cases entities who are attracted to it or consider it their home, simply change their form, regroup their forces, and if they consider it worthwhile, put the house back in order.

They enter then such forms as are available, or make such forms as could survive. This has been done within your own system on several occasions."

I often speak of you and the psyche as if they were separate, yet of course this is not the case. You are that portion of the psyche that you presently recognize. Many people say: "I want to know myself", or "I want to find myself", when the truth is that few really want to take the time or effort. ....

...You cannot insist that the laws of your vaster existence, as you discover them, supersede the physical conditions of your known life...

Now, in many ways you simply have a brief attention span.
The "true facts" are that you exist in this life and outside it simultaneously. You are "between lives" and "in lives" at once. The deeper dimensions of reality are such that your thoughts and actions not only effect the life you know, but also reach into all those other simultaneous existences. ....

If, however, you learn to know yourself better in daily life to become more fully aware even of your earthly life, then you will indeed receive other information that hints of a deeper, more supportive reality, in which physical existence rests. ...

Consciousness is composed of energy, and everything that implies. The psyche, then, can be thought of as a conglomeration of highly charged "particles" of energy, following rules and properties, many simply unknown to you. On other levels, laws of dynamics apply to the energy sources of the self. Think of a given "self" as a nucleus of an energy gestalt of consciousness. That nucleus, according to its intensity, will attract to It certain masses of the entire energy patterns available to a given identity.
