"When he shall die Take him and cut him out in little stars, And he will make the face of heaven so fine That all the world will be in love with night And pay no worship to the garish sun."

"Experience, however sublime, is not the real thing. By its very nature it comes and goes. Self-realization is not an acquisition. It is more of the nature of understanding. Once arrived at, it cannot be lost. On the other hand, consciousness is changeful, flowing, undergoing transformation from moment to moment. Do not hold on to consciousness and its contents...
All experience is illusory, limited and temporal. Expect nothing from experience. Realization by itself is not an experience, though it may lead to a new dimension of experiences. Yet the new experiences, however interesting, are not more real than the old. Definitely realization is not a new experience. It is the discovery of the timeless factor in every experience. It is awareness, which makes experience possible. Just like in all the colors light is the colorless factor, so in every experience awareness is present, yet it is not an experience..."

Originally there is no such thing as Buddha, but by necessity the name was given to him. Originally there was no such thing as mind. To attain enlightenment is to realise the one thing. For the sake of illustration it is said that the one thing is empty, but it is not really empty - mind of no mind is the true mind. Wisdom of no wisdom is the true wisdom.
Zen Master Hyech'oi.

“Above all, don't lie to yourself. The man who lies to himself and listens to his own lie comes to a point that he cannot distinguish the truth within him, or around him, and so loses all respect for himself and for others. And having no respect he ceases to love.”
― Fyodor Dostoyevsky

Well he died in Saint Petersburg, in Russia 138 years ago, so perhaps it's a universal truth about the human condition.

"But instinct is something which transcends knowledge. We have, undoubtedly, certain finer fibers that enable us to perceive truths when logical deduction, or any other willful effort of the brain, is futile." ~ Nikola Tesla.

“Youth always tries to fill the void, an old man learns to live with it.” ― Mark Z. Danielewski Care to explain? Thanks. I think it means that the emptiness of mind, is not a state that the young are expected to want. They are full of life and living and doing and planning and sharing and building and wanting better and that's perfectly natural. As a man ages, if his dreams have been fulfilled and he's clear about what he can add to world and what he can't, usually because the world that he knew best has passed, he settles into the vacancy and it becomes important to him. You can see it in the older men in your family. They are more present, yeah? They are listening and watching rather than rushing anywhere. They are appreciating every day and use their mind minimally and yet hopefully still effectively when necessary. They can absorb silence and trust it, rather than trying to fill it.. as they did when they were younger men.
