I listen to his podcasts occasionally. Recently he did another interview with Joseph Goldstein -- western insight meditation (vipassana) teacher. About half way through this most recent one they start talking about no self, nondual awareness / emptiness. One nuance I picked up in this discussion was between uprooting the illusion of self once and for all, and the notion that once the illusion is seen, it makes it easier to see the emptiness in all appearances. On the former, there's a day the uprooting happens, and all subsequent experience is in the context of no self. In the latter, the experience on that day informs continuing mindfulness. Also, turns out JG reads tons of spy books. www.samharris.org/podcast/item/why-meditate
