I am enjoying your website very much. To the point, "keep it simple". Spirituality has become a modern religion, and within those parameters, there are loads of fake guru's making loads of dosh. Come with me to India and you can see this in full action, open hearted and open mouthed pilgrims wandering around pouring Western Money into the pockets of the ever richer and richer Guru's. What's new? Didn't the Catholics build an entire world empire in the same way... History repeats, so what? There's a saying "the buyer beware". And for the Guru's, its the biggest temptress ever. You see awakening, unless total (which is rare) falls back into Ego Land sooner rather than later. She's the huge temptress and unless she is totally seen, those big TV shows, flash cars and big ashrams are just too sweet to ignore. Any true "guru" is in poverty, in all ways. He's the bloke you can actually talk to, and not have to book 5 years in advance to see on a stage (watch out Adyashanti, its happening to you too!!!) The true Guru is working in your local, he probably is almost un-known, but as clear as a bell. Find him/her, and you have truth. A message to all you big shot Guru's reading this. Are you real? Is this truth? Learn a lesson from the true beings in history, Jesus, Buddha etc. Live in the poverty that is bestowed on you, it's the most wonderful gift. Namaste.

Hans:
Who really cares if someone is making money off Spiritual shenanigans? My particular "teacher" didn't make a dime off me. Maybe some minor egoic, dream-state stroking, but not a dime. (OK, I lied, I think I bought a few beers or dinners here or there, but I have done that for many somnambulistics, besides my teacher did a lot of yard work for me - gratis).
Personally, I have learned from the most wretched of wretched, the most unholy of unholies, including those modern day "teachers", all of whom are rolling in the dough - they still "spoke" to me.
I personally didn't know Jesus or Buddha so I can't say they made any money off their teachings, but again, why should you care?
The point is, if something your 3rd grade teacher; Yoda; Jiraiya, the Pervy Sage (google it); Morpheus; Larry Darrell (google it); or your Regional Director of Southeast Sales says or does something to moves you to WTFU (figure this one out on your own) - who cares if you spent a couple bucks on it.
You aren't "real" - Jesus wasn't "real" - Buddha wasn't "real" - at least as much as you or I can understand it. Go ahead and live in poverty - it really doesn't matter in the end - "One" is not better or worse than the other - there is just One....Jesus and Buddha and God and the Flying Spaghetti Monster still loves you....

M,
No worries Hans is like that just his personality to speak in absolutes. Not to get into a debate about this but I agree for maybe different reasons it is never wise to make your living off spirituality. It's not the people who are paying that get hurt but the teacher. If you ask any truly awaken teacher if they would ever think of what they do as a business they would in a humble voice tell you no I could never do this.. There is a reason why when someone truly awakens the desire to help people and experience love is heighten quite a bit however money making always goes the other way. Now what Hans also said is very true you can learn from them but then again you can learn from anything a bug, a dog, a tree, a rock etc.
So take it from me or not but once money gets involved the kind you need to make a living on then the truth will become distorted there is absolutely no way to avoid this lest not to take money in the first place.
Now remember I am saying money to make a living from not money to cover expenses they have for renting a room etc.
Take care Michael
