When I was very young, my dad and I would talk about the universe and such, and I'd imagine the end of the universe (which looked like acoustical ceilings BTW) and what would there be on the other side.
But when talking of such matters, I would feel like I was outside of the rules of this universe such that I could contemplate things from the context of an impersonal outside observer. Then the thought would dawn on me: "Hey, how can you think about this in this context when you yourself are part of and inside it?" <-- not the words, but the jist. When this thought appeared, then my attention felt like falling - literally.
Down through my life, I've related this to other (no one seemed to identify), but only when I got involved in the so-called spiritual path did I have a clue as to what this is.

karen, is the feeling a positive or a negative one, because falling can seem scary or simply gentle movement.

Hi Robert.
I'd say the feeling wasn't overly negative in the traditional sence, but it contained the feeling of limitation. Or perhaps it was the limitation pulling my attention down.

Karen, it feels to me that you are observing with your spiritual self which knows all, and that the falling feeling is the feeling one gets when returning to one's physical body. Does your body ever feel very heavy when that falling feeling stops? This happened to me at 4 when I "died" during surgery... and a few times as an adult as well.

karen, i have experienced a pulling away, as if the source was showing me that the body awareness was not the final awareness. i was meditating on the space just before the brain forms the thought I AM. it is actually the most effective meditation that i have found. because in that space the I originates. so back to the sinking i would have to say that the source is simply showing you what you are from a different perspective, and perspective changes everything.
