Of My Big TOE fame. (Free on Google Books)
Just interviewed at Buddha at the Gas Pump.
He's a scientist suggesting a grand unified theory -- accommodating theory of relativity and quantum mechanics and various paranormal and spiritual schema.
The manifested physical world is a virtual reality which we experience because of consciousness. Consciousness is a finite system subject to entropy that has created this VM according to a particular rule set in order to create singular conscious entitites that will explore and learn ways of reducing entropy. Living from a being state where one is tuned into the larger consciousness system is the best way to reduce entropy. It is impossible to know what is outside of the larger consciousness system, in the same way a stomach bacterium doesn't know what is outside the stomach. (Of course now I'm thinking that with the innovation of fecal transplants, one stomach bacterium may be able to hear of the wonders of the outside world from a transplanted bacterium "dude, it's so bright out there, and giants walk around, and it's so COLD.")
One tip he offered was to focus on how to deal with stuff that makes you uncomfortable. Use negative feelings and emotions to flag an area where introspection can ferret out an underlying fear and then let it go. Ego is fear based, so uprooting fears will diminish ego and lead to a more being-centered, conscious way of living; lower entropy too.
He sees free will as central to human consciousness. I liked his concept of "decision space" -- the area for decision making can be tightly shut or wide open, depending on the level of ego involved.
