The Real Brass Ring
When I was a young person I always new that this world was mostly illusion. Understanding how it was an illusion was going to take some time and a lot of study. They told me to study hard and become all that I could be, so that I could have anything that I wanted. What they did not tell me was that studying things the way they had studied would just make me part of their world, it would make me part of an illusion that they, the people of the world, all thought was real. As I looked around and as I met people who had it all, I also noticed how empty they all felt. There was something deep down inside of me that was fighting to stay alive and I could see somehow that what was still alive in me was very dead in most of the people all around me. Even though the very wealthy people had everything that this physical world had to offer, I understood at a very young age that this kind of life was not for me.
What I saw was people building walls of separation around themselves. They were becoming slaves to the things that they thought they owned. Their beautiful world was slowly becoming a prison. Many of the very wealthy people were very unhappy, sad, and depressed. Why the hell would I ever want to be like they were?
If I walked on this world as everyone wanted me to, I would slowly over time become one of the walking dead, a true zombie. The true brass ring of this world can not be had when a person is half asleep, when the most important part of them is slowly dyeing a little more each and every day.
Do any of you remember being a young person going out into the world and being with others your own age, and feeling, a feeling, an energy in this gathering, something that felt so very right, so very good. It was a feeling that we had deep down inside of us, a connection to each other, a connection to the land that we were sitting on, and everything in this world. Now do you remember loosing this feeling, this connection over time as you grew up to become an adult. This was half of who we really are going to sleep. Somewhere between high school and the end of collage is where this change happens for most of us. This is where we loose the most important part of us to this world and its ways. This is where authentic self goes to sleep. this is the moment when we loose sight of our true vision and purpose for our life. And when this happens we have the real Brass Ring replaced with a plastic one. It looks the same, but it will take most of us a lifetime to see the truth.
As we get older we sense that something is not right with our lives. Most of us push this feeling into the background, but there are a few who dig deeper into these feelings. There are some that feel this empty spot deep inside of themselves getting bigger and bigger year after year, who start an inward journey to the truth about this Big Empty that grows inside all of us who have fallen asleep. Those who catch this early will have a chance to have the Real Brass Ring.
By the time the Big Empty deep inside of us is felt in an all consuming way, it is way to late. True joy, bliss, and happiness is way in the past. It takes time and a lot of hard personal work to awaken what the world and it’s ways have put to sleep deep down inside of us. We were not created to be miserable, sad, and depressed, that was a choice that we made without even knowing that we had done so.
We as the human race go at life in a backwards fashion. And this backwards way of doing things is costing us dearly. It is also costing the generations that will be following us. I do not know how many times that I have told people that everything in the spiritual world works backwards from the way we think it does from the physical point of view. If you do not know Authentic Self, then how will you ever find joy, bliss, and happiness in this life.
We think happiness comes from taking care of our physical world first, the house, the car, and the retirement. And if we take care of that physical stuff first, the way our society is set up there is no time for the spiritual work to be done. When I see people who truly take care of their spiritual side of life first, I also see people who have the physical side of life just fall into place as it is needed.
We were all created to do something in this world that will make it a better place to live. We were all created to be happy, joyous, and free. And the only way that this can happen for us, is for us to awaken Authentic Self. And the only way to awaken what the world has put to sleep is to make an inward journey of self discovery to find out who we really are. Pain and suffering is for the most part resistance to our own personal truth. Pain and suffering is also a chance to grow and learn about one’s true self.
Being of service to ones self first in the end just leaves us by ourselves. And this is another one of those backwards things. The only real way to serve self is through the service of others. And while we are looking at things that work backwards, what good is it to have everything in the world and end up dead inside and unable to enjoy anything, or love anybody? The real Brass Ring is made up of two elements. One side is the spiritual side of life, with a real connection the Earth, the people around you, and to your true authentic self. The physical side of life is the other part, the car, the house, and the retirement. And make no mistake about it, the order in which we go after these things makes all of the difference. The older you get the harder it is to see through all of the world’s illusions. And there are also some lessons that can only be learned by a younger person.
So what is your Brass Ring made of? Is it heavy with the two elements, the spiritual and the physical, or is your brass ring really made of light weight plastic?
