Thanks Farmer, Internet explorers cookies isnt checked...should it be?/in Firefox I have deleted cookies. Would Tor permit me to frequent places that have banned my IP#? Its another browser system right? as I recall, its not a new browser, but just an IP re-router, so it allows users to remain virtually invisible while using the net. so yes, you could revisit those former places which gave you the boot ;-) I stopped using it years ago, I don't have anything to hide, and my current set-up works well enough. I use adblocker, so I never see any ads anywhere.

every browser is slightly different, usually tools>options>privacy, but if you want specific instructions, tell me what browser you're using. TOR requires a download, and is only necessary if you have a need for anonymous surfing. and tin foil hats would likely take you into the realm of paranoid delusions. ;D It should be mentioned that just deleting all cookies can result in some inconvenience. Sites use them to identify you and save your interaction with them. By themselves, they don't constitute malware. right, but they re-attach themselves on your next visit, so its not a big deal. for every one you might want, there is probably twenty you didn't ask for. but I don't see any ads, so it doesn't really much matter to me anyway. but I like to keep a tidy machine.

I was more or less having some fun with this thread as well , its not one of the more serious threads hear . On porn , I remember a video I wanted to down load . It said I needed a different player . When I loaded the player all it did was flash a message that they wanted around $40 to remove the soft ware . I did a kill disk and reloaded my operating system . Now if you want to get rid of cookies do a kill disk on your hard drive , then reload a new o.s. I use dream studio , Ubuntu is another good one . ( only do this if you know what you are doing ) www.killdisk.com/distrowatch.com/table.php?distribution=dreamstudiowww.ubuntu.com/Only do that as a last resort in the final days of Armageddon when the devil himself is knocking on your door. I down load a lot of stuff from torrnet sites , I get a lot of mal ware . Its easier to just kill disk my drives and start over, but unless you know how to reload an o.s. you will turn your comp. in to a paper weight .

By advertising , I dont know if you mean W W Grainger and cricket . They appear at the top of this forum . My cell phone and inter net is through cricket and I have bought stuff from Grainger . Advertising pays the bills . If you mean some thing else you have lost me . Now the advertising bar is disney land , but it is in Spanish , I can read part of it , like mas felez ( very happy) Gidday from australia RAT! I am not speaking about Proboard advertising,(I am ok with that) I am speaking about these flashing lights,"You the lucky winner!" and the like, and most recently ive been caught lingering here by th armed advertising that GRABS control of your computer, demanding you attend to their pop-up which locks the screen neccessitation closing-down and starting again... suppose it could be outside Proboards? That someone is crashing my browser?? I am not computer literate so dont really understand where the adverts are comming from. If you dont get it(INSISTANT adds) then the problem must be in my computer? Thank you for responding. Sounds like you got a bug , you can try down loading 'Avast Anti virus' there is a free version and a paid version , I use the free version, it's pretty easy to use and it uses a small amount of computer resources and doesn't require manual updates. If you try it, read the web page very carefully it's designed to get you to purchase the paid version, the free version is not as brightly colored. Also go to Microsoft's website and update your security down loads for your operating system windows XP , or windows 7. very important to do it twice even if it tells you are up to date. Good Luck.

I use adblock and noscript. No java crap. Only allow the essential scripts. If I'm not sure about something then I just use a virtual machine. I would recommend everyone to just surf with linux that runs on a VM. The important stuff you can do with your original OS, for all else better use VM.

mmm, dangerous to show me this. My partners puter os jammed up completly but I didnt kill the system just installed Ubuntu an she is up an running again an happy with them, cept she's having trouble dnloading stuff for it.Maybe i need to update it?. Is it important to remove the first os? I thought this would be ousted when ubuntu went in. You can do this several ways . Have a distro of Linux by its self , or have a Linux/windows system . I some times do a kill disk to get rid of mal ware . I save all my stuff on 2 usb hard drives . Dream studio will make the Linux partitions for you as it sets up, and create the boot table , not all distros will . You need to have the windows , or Linux distro system already burned to a disk and redy to use before doing the kill disk . p.s. A link to a good distro site . If you note there loaded with adds , but adds pay the bills . If any one needs info on setting up Linux , we can start a new thread on it , if asked . distrowatch.com/sounds promising.Thanks. as usual i have jumped the gun and are dnloading ubuntu 13?/2hrs it takes. That might solve her problem. The original ubuntu off a disc is 8.04, an it appeared too difficult to find a way to upgrade(as Im not at all puter-kid.) I am unsure i have the capacity to perform what you first describe...Linex is Ubuntu parent company?

I would avoid Mcaffee cuz it's very aggressive and can easily become your worst virus. Personally, I use System Mechanic because I like the flexibility if things have to be done manually with the system. (Obviously my personal opinion) thanks Enigma. so Malewarebytes dosnt do this operation, nor Microsoft essentials...one needs a proper system that one pays cash for? Opinions are important.

Linux was the name Linus Torvalds gave to a Unix like operating system in the early 90s Ubuntu is one of many distros of Linux . When you have the i.s.o. file you burn it to a disk with an iso burner , roxo , nero , power iso , ect. Let it run as a live cd first , see if it works with all your hard ware . When you install it to the hard drive it will ask how you want to install it . en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linuxp.s. Most of the Linux distros have there own forum . Questions like , how to get a sound , video , modem , or wifi card to work are best asked there . www.ubuntu.upc.edu/index.php

I'm not familiar with those. I do have lots of experience with free software that finds problems that aren't there, though.
