it was asked "Why the interest in Samadhi?
If you look, all the major world religions have a "mystical" center:
Buddhism has Zen
Christianity has aesthetic christian mysticism
Judaism has Kabbalah
Hinduism has Advaita Vedanta
Islam has Sufism
Nearly all of humanity is touched by religion, and nearlly all humans are drawn toward religion at some point of their lives, even if it expresses itself as a strong aversion.
One might say that the people pursue religions because they want to know God.
The vast majority of humanity particpates in some religion because they want to know or get closer to God
Most religions end up being dogmatic tools that use one of our most core aspects of human nature to control and have power over folks....and yet, at the center of every major religion is this mystical HEART that holds to the origanal purpose of the religion, which is (in its various names) to get closer to God or the divine, or to experience oneness.
And here is where it gets interesting...
The biggest mover of humanity throughout all of history has been religion
Its arguably the biggest influencer of the human condition.
And at the heart of ever religion is sn uncorrupted "mystical" center where one follows a set of practices and precepts to open into a direct and personal relationship with the divine, or unity conciousness.
Zen, Sufism, Advaita Vedanta, Dzogchen, Kabbalah, all provide a practical means to transcend the dogma of religion and have a direct personal EXPERIENCE of God or Universal Oneness etc....all provide a practical means of getting into direct contact with a kind of divine experience.
And there is no denying that humanity throughout history has this search for divinity as its biggest inner and outer motivator.
And here is where Samadhi comes in.
At the heart of every major religion is the so called mystical center which is just the practical means of having a direct experience of the divine....and at the center of EVERY mystical tradition, as the culmination of the practical means of direct experience of the divine, is SAMADHI.
You might say that Samadhi is what all of humanity is striving for.
Its the terminus, the conjunction point, the intersection where ALL religions, and humanities deepest inner and outer motivator converge.
All religions have a practical/mystical aspect at their heart, and all the hearts of every major Religion has Samadhi as the central pinnacle experience.
All of the spiritual traditions converge at Samadhi from every part of the world and throughout humanities history.
When you ask me "why the fascination with Samadhi.?"
I think, "how can any if you that are interested in spirituality NOT be interested in Samadhi?
It the one aspect that all spiritual and religious traditions have in common lol
Its the converging point of ALL of them...
And for good reason....its the place where the search for God, or the sacred, or the divine ends in absolute Union with the divine, the sacred, with God.
And its accessible to anyone.
