I don't know if anyone here is familiar with Richard Rose's teaching. I am interested in knowing the connection between his teaching and Vipassana world. He coined two terms: Umpire and Process Observer. I wonder if Process Observer is equivalent to "watcher" sensations in Vipassana. Umpire is being identified as a type of sensation in Vipassana or something else. I am still studying his system and it is not easy to digest. It seems to me Umpire is equivalent to the rational mind according to his book, but I am not quite sure.

Hi Further, welcome to the board. Looks like not so many people into both RR and Vipassana. Insight Meditation is my next (intended!) step on the path as I think I've been doing (or not doing) samadhi meditation for long enough. What did Rose say about "Process Observer" then, and how does it differ to the Umpire? Cheers, Peter

I've never heard those terms, at least I don't remember RR using them. Are you reading the albigen papers?
I would think that the process observer is one that oberves what happens without judging. Just allowing everything to be.
The umpire directs the game. So he would be the opposite of the observer. He judges and tries to control his environment.
RR's language may not be the easiest to decipher at least not to me, but he is simple and direct. There isn't too much sugarcoating or added complexity in his writings.
