If you are going to get into energy work, I highly recommend listening to Caroline Myss's Audio Lectures on Energy Anatomy. She presents an excellent template relating energy to the psyche and makes the argument that energy is like electricity and the psyche is like a circuit board. Energy work can temporarily flood the system to give a "positive" energy flow, but if the psyche doesn't "rewire" then the energy flow is g9oing to settle back into the old patterns. Energy work, meditation, ATA all have gentle rewiring effects, but usually for a strong block it helps speed things along to look at the psychological components. What is the block related to? When did it first appear in your life? What pay-off is the individual persona getting for having and keeping the block active? Digging to find the root of the block and then continuing to sit with it in full awareness until the issue evaporates. Use your self-awareness and intuition. What's the block about? When did it first come into your life? And what payoff are you getting for keeping the block intact? the payoff is what I need to examine most. For instance, I enjoy sad, houndog old country songs and sing them pretty effectivley. Now, to do that means I must identify with the lyrics. So my payoff in holding to a brokenhearted persona is the ability to emote while singing. When I look at this from a larger perspective, I find that the game may not be worth the candle, and i would rather trancend those emotions than be ruled by them. But I still like the songs, the gutteral energetic contractions, etc. What a mess am I! (Funny, as I write this a van drove by with a sticker that reads "Got Reiki?"...hmmmm) I would challenge that it is an assumption on your part that you need to identify with the lyrics before being able to sing them affectively. Performance is a place you can visit without having to live there all the time. Perhaps by not living there, when you visit you can be there more powerfully? Never know until you try it out.
