, I watched comedian Bill Maher Movie Religeous. After that, a friend of mine asked me what I thought about it. "It's pretty scary, right", she said. I paused and said "interesting". And I have thought much about my friend's question and the relevance of the satiristic comedic documentary ever since. For those of you who haven't seen the movie, it basically makes a mockery of a variety of different religions and their teachings. Bill Maher raises questions in regards to the accuracy of these teachings, practices and beliefs...And all I can say in response to that after seeing the movie a second time was "interesting"...yet again.
The reason I say that is because religion has been one of the hallmark monuments of spirituallity and faith and hope for years and continues to be so. I'm not here to agree or disagree with the religious doctrines that were berated, but I do have friends who come from various religious backgrounds, such as Buddist to Bihai and various types of Christianity, Jewish religion and so on. For most of my life, I have studied religion and when I listen to, for example, my Muslim friends talk about their faith, what they express is so powerful my friend said talking about his faith give him goosebumps. He showed me his arm and I could see his skin with literal goosebumps. Religeous teaching can be so deeply ingrained and bind to a person so deeply, that it becomes part of their acually being "so a man thinketh so he becomes"
In the movie, a man leading a bible discussion is questioned by Maher about his faith. This man said he was a former drug user but that religeon changed him. I also saw a group of men worshiping, who could have been in bars, or other not so inducive to spiritual growth places (drug houses, bars, etc), but they were doing something very beneficial for themselves and I can't overlook that something very spiritual happens when any group joins together with a common theme. Synergy takes place and call it "the placebo effect" if you like, but aren't many things in real life placebos? Aren't many people in relationships or marriages where the intimacies of love are gone but the principal of love remain and they continue for the greater good, and greater humanity of raising their children, for economic benefits, or what ever hypnotic induced interpretations of reality that creates the synergy within that family that tell them to get up every morning and continue.
Many things in life are illusions and scientist now claim that life is just a three dimensional hologram. Are we all to stop living if life really isn't real?..Many tall tales or Aesops fables, legends and myths were beneficial for the content of their lessons aside from whether they were real or not...And I don't believe that George Washington never told a lie either, but believing that he didn't, (when I was young), gave me a strong foundation for honesty. Religion got us here and it is proven valuable, not by dissecting its validity but by the fruitages it produces, and where it inspires love and kindness.
Bill also questions the existence of a man called Jesus Christ and parelled the story of his life with the stories of Horus and Isis from two thousand years before in the land of Egypt. Whether Jesus existed or not is not the subject of debate..the power of the words of a man called Jesus are beyond debate..When i hear the simple words "do unto others as you would have them do unto you" , I think, "Those words are brilliant", and simply said, yet millions of people were inspired by those words to be better people "living by the sword means dying by the sword", were the same as the laws of effect in its earliet form and no doubt inspired the laws of motion which states, " for every action there is a reaction and the reaction can be negative or positive" depending on "what we reap or what we sow"...Is that any different than when Sir Isac Newton in his Law of Motion said, "thing set in to motion will remain in motion"...And the absence of belief places fear and hatred, its by product into motion. But love mitigates fear so if this simple law is applied to Newtons law of motion we have the answer because thing set into motion remain in motion until it is met with a opposing force. Love is the only thing powerful enough to neutralize fear. I can't help but recall my friends comment about the movie Religeous , She said it was "scary" and did not walk away feeling inspired to "love thy neighbor"...Millions of people are living inspired lives that lead to love based upon beliefs that may contain inaccuracies, but the end result of the love it produces cannot be denied.
Maher also pointed to the wars that were fought in the name of religion and many still have images of the World Trade center tradgedy fresh in their minds.
Were these acts committed by religious people or by people claiming to be religious?T he muslim friends I know didn't commit that atrocity. People claiming to be of some sort of extremist Muslim faith did..and people who I love dearly and who are Catholic didnt molest children. Some people claiming to be catholic did that.
The global awakening not with a roar, but with a whisper is calling people into one place and under one umbrella but as we march forward into a new world governed by love peace joy and righteousness, of what good is it to burn the bridges that got us here?
I have no ill feelings for the comical sarcastic film Religeous and wish no disrespect in this commentary to those who produced it ..it's the fear that it produces and sense of hopelessness and despair that I am addressing. A person's faith is very dear to them, and when Maher and the producers of the film take that away what are they giving them in return ?
The circle of love Welcomes all to join. All religious affiliations that lead to love are welcome. We believe in the spirit of the inspired expressions that say love hopes all things, believes all thing, endures all things, for the spirit of love we see all from our patient hearts as they weigh and see for themselves how their faith works out. In the end its is not so much who was right that matters as who was kind.
Please invite others to read this commentary and Bill Maher if you are reading this we still love you! Share

Delete That was OUTSTANDING! Thank you for that. I saw the movie and was definitely NOT inspired by it either. I was never a fan of religion, but you put it all into perspective by saying that whether someone's religion is based upon fallacies or not, really isn't what counts. What counts and what is important is that it inspires LOVE.
With much love,
