www.earlychristianwritings.com/thomas/gospelthomas8.html"And he said: Man is like a wise fisherman who cast his net into the sea; he drew it up from the sea full of small fish; among them he found a large good fish, the wise fisherman; he threw all the small fish into the sea, he chose the large fish without difficulty. He who has ears to hear, let him hear!" I thought I understood this immediately until I read this commentary: "Mankind are the fish, many in quantity, only God will sift through the "catch" to find the deserving to bring to heaven." Totally not how I understood it. Pretty funny. Thank-goodness-we-have-the-wise-elders-of-the-Church-to-interpret-The-Word. Not.

www.earlychristianwritings.com/thomas/gospelthomas15.html"Jesus said: When you see him who was not born of woman, fall down upon your faces and worship him; that one is your Father." Hah! First time I've contemplated this concept and come up with anything useful. Basically, pointing at the very same thing as "what is your original face?"

hat tip to Tzu www.earlychristianwritings.com/thomas/gospelthomas26.html"Jesus said: You see the mote which is in your brother's eye; but you do not see the beam which is in your own eye. When you cast out the beam from your own eye, then you will see (clearly) to cast out the mote from your brother's eye." This is really awesome. It's interesting cuz, as E has pointed out, projection can be very useful.

www.earlychristianwritings.com/thomas/gospelthomas28.html" Jesus said: I stood in the midst of the world, and I appeared to them in the flesh. I found them all drunk; I found none of them thirsting, and my soul was afflicted for the sons of men; for they are blind in their heart, and they do not see that they came empty into the world, (and) empty they seek to leave the world again. But now they are drunk. When they have thrown off their wine, they will repent." The only thing I don't understand in this one is the last word, repent. The word is so wrapped up in shame and guilt. But I think that's a conflation. Just found this definition: "to feel sorry, self-reproachful, or contrite for past conduct; regret or be conscience-stricken about a past action, attitude, etc." It's more like, wow, nice to finally be alive. Hope I didn't screw anyone else up.

It means to change one's mind. It has really nothing to do with feeling sorry or to feel shame or guilt. meta is like meta in metaphysics, beyond physics. noia (nous) means mind. meta here means after, so it means after mind. It's the mind you have after you change your mind. Plug that in. So it means the mind you have after you cease to be drunk. I would say that means when you are seeing clearly, seeing things as they are.

It wasn't a shame or guilt thing though,. but I did feel wretched and it hurt a lot. Kind of a feeling of "wow,. look at all I've been given and all I did was want more or something else". It was very sobering.

I found this " What Repentance MeansIn the New Testament the same word used for repent (metanoeo) is essentially the same for repentance (metanoia) where one is a verb and one is a noun. A person is said to need to repent (metanoeo) and then they show repentance (metanoia). There are two words for repentance in the Old Testament Hebrew. One word is “nacham” which means “to be sorry” or “to regret” but the overwhelming majority of the time it is used (391 times) it means “turn” or “return” (“shuwb”)." I think I heard Adyashanti once refer to it as 'turn around.' There I'm thinking 'you are what you seek.' But 'return' makes even more sense. paraphrase: the turnaround happens when you go from looking at what things can give me...to looking at what is actually here. Also Beingist, our resident hibernating etymologist: spiritualteachers.proboards.com/post/148283: "...basically 'to turn around and go back whence you came' (which is what 'retrace your steps' brought to mind)."

Where you at now? here. heh heh I'm pretty chillaxed for the most part, but of course still get caught up in crap, but even that is not so much of a big deal and doesn't leave too much residue. I've had enough experiences to bring most of the seeking urge to an end and I follow along with the principles that ZD posted recently (and that others here have addressed at different times) - Trust your intuition
- use common sense
- investigate all truth claims for yourself
- be persistent
- and be patient.
and KASM of course When I read ZD's line "Fruit always falls from the tree perfectly on schedule. LOL" I just smile and relax
