Well, not to be flip or anything, I thought what I wrote above was an offer to hear how this jibes with your experience and understanding. I'm not sure what I can add. What does it mean to you to "be still"? How is that accomplished? So....I guess no exploring today. **bounces ball sullenly off in corner**

There's no need to identify myself as a 'person', i 'am' that, too, it is self-evident, you are actually looking for it.. and, isn't it interesting that the 'person' is so real that even if you 'think' you don't see it, you find cause to search for it, to 'notice' that your expectation of its existence is unfulfilled? it's important to notice what's really happening, here.. Be well.. Be well.. Some perspectives prefer adopting an either/or resolution to the paradox. That wouldn't actually be my approach, though I also wouldn't embrace the paradox by declaring both separation and oneness.

He was referencing a type of meditation that Rose recommended involving effortlessness. 'Practice effortlessness' was his actual recommendation. Like 15-20 minutes a day. Sit and practice thinking without thinking. Heh.

So....I guess no exploring today. **bounces ball sullenly off in corner** I was listening to an old TAT talk this morning by Mike Connors. He was referencing a type of meditation that Rose recommended involving effortlessness. 'Practice effortlessness' was his actual recommendation. Like 15-20 minutes a day. Sit and practice thinking without thinking. Heh. Yikes. I actually have done a version of this, though, a few years back. I was looking at control and choices and effort. So I says to myself (that's how we talk in Jersey), let's just try a day where I let go of all that. Ended up sitting a really long time, but then - got up and did stuff. And that stuff felt so much easier, even the stuff I'm not that fond of doing. I have no idea if that's just playing around, but it did give me an experiential sense of the tremendous amount of effort involved when we think we're in charge of life and living. And I was surprised at how much got accomplished with so little energy expenditure. It was more like an experiment than a practice though. Practicing effortlessness... Hey, there's a puke smiley!!

Be well No problem, Tzu. I can tell you're not off eating bon-bons. I was mostly interested in what it is you want to share with this forum, aside from your opinion about Enigma that is. The only thing I was getting clearly was your interest in "being still". More fuzzily, I'm getting something about honoring personhood - I could be way off on that. But, combining those two makes stillness an even more interesting proposition to discuss. No rush on responding.

I tried it this morning, as an experiment. Lets just say that monkeymind had my monkeybody moving too. Viewing it as an experiment, without any expectation is exactly the right way of looking at it. Connors was suggesting that you may get momentary glimpses of what effortlessness is like and that these sort of build up and subvert the efforting over a while. 10-15 minutes twice a day is better than going to TAT sessions, etc.

To be clear.. my 'preference' is no declaration.. not oneness or manyness or separation or non-duality.. but, when something 'is' declared, like oneness, then it's defining contrasting principle is declared, too.. I've found this really helpful in terms of sitting ... the usual disclaimers apply: no reason to sit as it is the practice of what we are never not ... sitting is ultimately futile. yadda. yadda. and more yadda. Ultimately though, every instant is an opportunity to follow the roads that lead to Rome.
