When I was thinking about how to reply to Fear's posting this morning, I was considering what I'd written about choosing the human condition yesterday and remembered some advice somewhere about walking 'in' the world without being 'of' the world. I thought it came from The Desiderata and when I couldn't find it there I checked that other great source of wisdom - Kipling's If. Eventually it turned up in John 17. All 3 here below.

And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore, be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be. And whatever your labors and aspirations in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul. With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams; it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful.

Thanks for that CommieJesus - I'd come across the Razor's Edge as a book in the online Zen writings of The Wanderling - Awakening 101, but it would be good to see the film.
