FOUR TYPES OF HUMAN BEINGS AND THEIR STRATEGYThe Human Design System groups people into 4 specific types:
Manifestors, Generators, Projectors and Reflectors.
The main difference between each type is in their aura. Although there are endless variations within each type (and within our genetics), each type has a specific auric quality that determines its strategy - a correct way of approaching and navigating life.
Strategy and authority are two key elements of the Human Design System – and all you really need to know to live a fulfilling life free from resistance. We are objects moving in space. Just like a street car when driven off the road, we too encounter problems and resistance when we don't respect our unique nature.
To know what type you are, you can either get your personal reading or create your Human Design chart online for free at the Jovian Archive website - link.
MANIFESTOR
Manifestors are a minority - around 8% of all people. You are the only type that is here to initiate.
Sample Manifestor's chart
Historically, Manifestors were the rulers and law givers of the world. So many of our habits and accepted generalizations are created by and fit for Manifestors. You are the ones - the only ones - who really can go out and make things happen. As children this happens as soon as they can reach the doorknob. You are designed to be an unstoppable force that will not allow anyone to control you. If there is something you want, go and get it, as it will not come to you (be it a job, partner etc.) - just listen to your authority. You have the potential to shape the world the way you want it to be. On an energy level you have a very deep impact on others, but your aura doesn't communicate as much as the auras of other types. That's why people often don't know what to think about you. It creates un unconscious fear in them and they try to control you from the moment you were born. This leads you to your predominant negative feeling – anger. The secret of success for you lies in communication. The way to operate correctly for you as a Manifestor is to inform. Inform those that are going to be impacted by your actions about what you're going to do. In this way, others will not be so intimidated by you. They may actually help you and put their energy into whatever it is that you have initiated. Then you can find what you are looking for - PEACE.
Without informing, you will get resistance every step of the way. That's why many Manifestors, already in their childhood, resign, after being punished over and over again by parents, teachers and others. They give up their manifesting powers and concentrate on going through life, just getting by. They may feel ignored, or like they've been run over by a truck. The last thing they would want to do is to inform others. Everybody else is in their way all the time, so the idea of making it easier for others by informing is unacceptable. Yet it's the only way out of the circle of control and resistance. (While still living with parents, Manifestor's strategy is actually different - they need to ask for permission.)
Go to sleep as soon as you begin to feel tired. You can read or watch a movie for a while before you fall asleep, but already lying down in a horizontal position. If possible, sleep alone, not in other people's aura – you will feel the difference in you in the morning. Remember that there may be a neighbor above or behind the wall and if you're closer then your two arm-lengths, you are still in each other's aura.
Strategy: Inform those who will be impacted by your actions. Think about that, you'll see you impact quite a lot of people.
Predominant negative feeling: Anger
Famous Manifestors: Johny Depp, Richard Burton, George W. Bush, Adolf Hitler, Frida Kahlo, Jack Nicholson, Robert DeNiro, Orson Welles and Susan Sarandon
GENERATOR
Almost 70 % of all people are Generators. If you have a defined Sacral center, then no matter how the rest of your chart looks, you are one of them.
Sample Generator's chart
Generators are the great workers of the world. But also the slaves, who doing work they can't stand, day after day. You can imagine Manifestors as the Pharaohs of the ancient Egypt and Generators as all those multitudes who built the pyramids.
Sacral is a tremendous energy generator (hence the name) that gives you all the energy you need to do things, anything you enter into correctly. For Generators, life is all about RESPONSE. Instead of chasing after life, let the life come to you. Your aura, like a powerful magnet, brings to you everything you need to fulfill your purpose. Sacral can not initiate, it can only respond. The only truth is that which comes to you through your response. Without responding, you will end up deeply frustrated.
SATISFACTION is the key word for Generators. You need to be selfish; it's all about self satisfying work. Do only what brings you satisfaction. Your life is all about doing what you love and only that shows you who you are and brings you happiness. In words of a renowned anthropologist Joseph Campbell: "Follow your bliss and the Universe will open doors for you where there were only walls."
If you initiate, if you don't respond and enter into things incorrectly, you get the theme of frustration and want to get out, quit. Your energy is cut off and you end up feeling depleted, tired or frustrated.
There are 2 categories of Generators: (Pure) Generators and Manifesting Generators. The main difference is that Pure Generators work in gradual phases, much like climbing a mountain: going up, things are moving on, until they reach a plateau when nothing seems to be happening. If they didn't begin whatever they are doing out of response, this is the moment when they feel stuck or trapped. However, if they entered into it correctly, eventually an impulse will come from outside and they will resume their work, and start climbing again. Manifesting Generators do things very quickly and are even more tempted to initiate (not waiting for something to respond to). They are very efficient and skip that, which is not important. But in doing so, they also often skip something essential and then they need to go back to it.
If you're a Generator, it's healthy for you to go to bed only when you are exhausted. If you haven't used up your energy, you will have problem falling asleep and will not wake up fresh the next day.
Strategy: Wait to respond
Predominant negative feeling: Frustration for Pure Generators and frustration and/or anger for Manifesting Generators.
Famous Pure Generators: Albert Einstein, Dalai Lama, Elvis Presley, Bill Clinton, Meryl Streep, John Lennon, Madonna, James Dean, Vladimir Lenin, Carl Jung, Timothy Leary, Oprah Winfrey, Meg Ryan, Greta Garbo, Margaret Thatcher, Deepak Chopra
Famous Manifesting Generators: Frederic Chopin, Marie Curie, Hillary Clinton, Clint Eastwood, Sigmund Freud, Mahatma Gandhi, Steffi Graf, Marie Antoinette, Mikhail Gorbachev, Jimi Hendrix, Pope John Paul II, Janis Joplin, Friedrich Nietzsche, Richard Nixon, Yoko Ono, Prince, Jaqueline Onassis, Martin Luther King, Vincent Van Gogh
PROJECTOR
If you are a Projector (22 % of population), you are not here to work. You are here to know others, to recognize and guide them. But that can only happen if you yourself are 1) recognized and 2) invited to do so.
Sample Projector's chart
Your strategy is to wait for an invitation in the important areas of you life (your relationships, work etc.). If your authority says yes, then you can really share your gifts and guidance. To be invited means that you are seen and recognized for your values. If you don't wait for an invitation, or the energy of invitation, you meet resistance.
Through your open centers, you take others in deeply. You take in other people's definition and you can clearly see who they are. Your aura focuses on the very core of their being and you can recognize others. But if you try to guide others without being invited to do so, you meet resistance, or feel that no one really sees you, no one recognizes you. Out of that comes a deep feeling of bitterness, often mixed with exhaustion.
Projectors fear that they will not be invited. But if you follow your strategy of waiting for the invitation, what happens is that your aura's frequency starts to change and the more you live according to your design, the more invitations you get. This will bring you SUCCESS. Once invited, you don't need to wait for any more invitations regarding whatever you were invited to (project, job, relationship etc.). Just follow your authority in doing what you do and don't initiate. The invitation, correct entry into anything, is the key. The feeling of being recognized, appreciated, heard and seen. Is it there? Great. If not, you may stop talking in mid sentence and save yourself yet one more disappointment of not being understood.
Projectors are the eternal students of humanity and system masters. You need to have a system through which you can relate and understand life. Projectors often have the need to study Human Design deeply in order to gain the intellectual understanding of how they are to operate correctly. Projectors are the only type who can really know what's going on.
Your openness can be energetically exhausting, so it is important to have your own space where you can relax. The same advice regarding sleeping applies to you as to everyone else with an undefined Sacral: go to bed as soon as you begin to feel tired and if at all possible, sleep alone (see Manifestors for details).
Strategy: Wait for an invitation, or the energy of invitation
Predominant negative feeling: Bitterness
Famous Projectors: Queen Elisabeth II, Mick Jagger, Joseph Stalin, Ringo Starr, Osho, Napoleon, Woody Allen, Salvador Dali, Elizabeth Taylor, Fidel Castro, James Joyce, Barbra Streisand, Ulysses S. Grant, Douglas MacArthur, Demi Moore, Princess Diana, Tony Blair, Ramana Maharshi, George Gurdjieff
REFLECTOR
Reflectors make up only about 1 % of the population. If you have all your centers open, you are a Reflector.
Sample Reflector's chart
You are completely open to the world and others. As there are no defined centers in your design, you take in the definition of everybody else. It's like seeing the world through their eyes, sampling their particular frequency and reflecting back the other. You are like a mirror and the reflection of other people constantly changes your perception. One moment you many feel extremely emotional, the next moment it's gone. Then you may get all these ideas and a strong sense of knowing where you're going in life, and then it's gone again, and so on and so forth. That's why it's very important for you to choose your friends and partners carefully, as they will have a great impact on your feelings and your experience of yourself.
For you, the open G center rule - to be only in places that you like - is even more important. Then you will be with the right people and get the love you seek. Your total openness can make you at times almost invisible to others. Without knowing the mechanics of your design, you may feel deeply disappointed in life. But this very openness is a potential for a great wisdom, if you learn how to work with it correctly. You are here to sample life. To successfully apply this knowledge, Reflectors have the need to study and intellectually understand the Human Design System.
Any kind of pressure is detrimental to your health. Take your time to make important decisions and don't let anyone pressure you. You are a lunar being, tied to the lunar cycle, so the strategy for you is to wait 29 days before making any major decision . During these 29 days, talk with different people about your decision - and listen to what you yourself say about it. That's how you find something different and how you get to be SURPRISED.
Life for you is an impersonal experience. As you go through life, learning the truth of "this isn't me" again and again, your greatest potential is that of complete transparency. Your openness can be energetically exhausting so it is important to have your own space where you can relax. The same advice regarding sleep applies for you as for everyone else with an undefined Sacral: go to bed as soon as you begin to feel tired and if at all possible, sleep alone (see Manifestors for details).
Strategy: Wait 29 days (the full cycle of the Moon) before making a major decision and talk with others about it, while paying attention to what you say
Predominant negative feeling: Disappointment
Famous Reflectors: H.G. Wells, Sandra Bullock, Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Ammaji (hugging Amma)
TYPES - CONCLUSION
The strategy of each type is very simple, yet it may be not be easy to put into practice at first. Manifestors, who feel controlled by others all their life, need to inform. Generators, who have oceans of energy, can't just go around doing anything - they need to wait and respond. Projectors, who can see others and are here to guide them, need to wait for an invitation - something they never expect to happen. And Reflectors, with their openness and taking in other people's definition, must wait 29 days before making a major decision - no matter how certain they feel about something in the moment.
CENTERS
There are 9 centers in the Bodygraph: Head, Ajna, Throat, G, Heart / Ego, Sacral, Root, Spleen and Solar plexus.
Centers are areas of special energetic significance in our body. As such, they represent certain types of energies as well as govern the functioning of their associated organs and functions in the body (for example G center is responsible
for the liver and blood).
Our definition, everything that is colored in our chart, is Who We Are. The definition represents consistency. On the other hand, when the center is undefined, there is no consistency in experiencing its energy/attributes.
Undefined/open centers is where we go to school in life. If we don't follow our strategy and authority, the open centers are places where we get our deepest conditioning, creating great resistance and suffering. Yet when we honor the mechanics of our design, it is through the open centers that we get the greatest learning and wisdom.
When the center is open, it doesn't mean it's empty, or broken. Our mind can easily judge our characteristics as something “wrong” or “bad”. Each design is perfect, when it is honored in a person's life.
DESCRIPTION OF THE OPEN CENTERS
The following information is a simplified overview of the undefined centers (the white ones). Notice your mental chatter in regards to your specific open centers and how these centers influence your perception of life almost without you noticing it.
HEAD CENTER
Head is the center of inspiration, thinking and mental pressure. Having it undefined means that most of your thoughts, questions as well as your inspiration come from outside. That's why you constantly think about things that don't matter (to you) and why your head is full of questions. Trying to answer them all creates a lot of mental pressure. You can learn to have questions without the need to answer them.
Ask yourself from time to time: Am I thinking about things that don't matter? Am I still trying to answer everybody else's questions?
Potential wisdom of the open Head: I know which questions are important for me to think about or not. I know who and what is inspiring for me and I am free of mental pressure.
AJNA CENTER
Ajna is the center of research, thought processing and analysis. Having it undefined means that you have no consistency in the way that thoughts are accessed and processed. Your thought process is conditioned from the outside. Feeling uncertain about your capacity to communicate and express ideas, you compensate by pretending to be certain - the one who knows and hates to look foolish.
Ask yourself from time to time: Am I still trying to convince everyone that you're certain?
Potential wisdom of the open Ajna: I am OK with not being certain. Great flexibility and thus creativity of thought process.
THROAT CENTER
Throat is the center of communication and manifestation (action). Having it undefined means that you have no consistency - and at the same time great flexibility - in expressing yourself. The need to attract attention by talking. Useful tip: don't be the first one to talk.
Ask yourself from time to time: Am I still trying to attract attention?
Potential wisdom of the open Throat: I don't have to ‘do' anything to attract attention. It happens when it is correct for me.
G CENTER
G is the center of identity, direction if life and love (center of the spiritual heart in the middle of the chest). You don't know who you are, where is your life is going (direction) and don't always get the love you need (not knowing who to love). You can trust that life will guide you by following your Strategy & Authority. Only be in a place that you like, be it your home, city, restaurant or office.
Ask yourself from time to time: Am I still looking for love, for yourself and your direction in life?
Potential wisdom of the open G: I no longer look for love, my life, direction and self ‘out there'. By living according to my design, love comes to me and I know the next step to take when the time is right.
EGO / HEART CENTER (this center has two names)
Ego is the center of ego and willpower, self worth/self-esteem and survival in the material world. Having it undefined means that there is no consistency in applying your will power. That leads to lower self-esteem and underestimating yourself. You try to overcompensate this by being competitive, in control and proving your worth to others and yourself. Don't make any promises.
Ask yourself from time to time: Do I still have something to prove? (i.e. are you smart enough, good enough, trustworthy, loyal, successful, sexy, etc.)
Potential wisdom of the open Ego: I have nothing to prove.
SACRAL CENTER
Sacral is the center of vitality, sexuality and persistence. Having it undefined means that you don't have a consistent access to vitality, you can easily exhaust yourself. Not knowing when enough is enough, you tend to overdo things (work, eating, anything). Remember, you are not here to work, but potentially to guide others in how to work, rather than actually doing it all yourself. Go to bed as soon as you are tired.
Ask yourself from time to time: Do I know when enough is enough?
Potential wisdom of the open Sacral: I know when enough is enough.
ROOT CENTER
Root is the center of physical pressure (adrenalin), drive to do things and kundalini energy. Having it undefined means that you do things as fast as you can and work hard, in an effort to get rid of the pressure (that never goes away). You have the potential to be naturally still and allow the pressure to flow through you without acting upon it. Following your strategy brings you the correct pressure and protects you from the pressure that would harm you.
Ask yourself from time to time: Am I still in a hurry to be free (of the pressure)?
Potential wisdom of the open Root: I know what pressure is correct for me or not.
SPLEEN CENTER
Spleen is the center of intuition, instinct, survival and well being. Having it undefined means that you are open to all kinds of fears and you hold onto things that are no longer good for you. You have a weaker immune system, which makes you sensitive to your body and potentially good at seeing the health of others. It's easy for you to get addicted to the “good” feeling others bring you. Spontaneity can easily create problems for you.
Ask yourself from time to time: Am I still holding onto what's not good for you? (i.e. relationships, jobs, places, things)
Potential wisdom of the open Spleen: I knowing what is healthy for me or not and I can let go of what doesn't serve me.
SOLAR PLEXUS CENTER
Solar Plexus is the center of emotions and moods. Having it undefined means that you are very sensitive to emotions, open to the emotions of others as you take them in and feel twice as strong. This leads to strategy of avoiding conflicts and unpleasant truths. Living a secret life. It is best to avoid all emotional decisions.
Ask yourself from time to time: Am I still avoiding confrontation and truth?
Potential wisdom of the open Solar Plexus: I can experience the full spectrum of emotions and survive.
MANDALA
Mandala is a visual representation of the Human Design System.
Human Design Mandala with a specific chart
The inner wheel represents the 12 signs of the zodiac. Although Human Design uses the same zodiacal wheel as astrology, it is interpreted differently. The outer wheel is composed of 64 hexagrams of I'Ching. Each hexagram represents archetypal energies and they are also directly related to our genetic code, the 64 codons of our DNA.
As Above, so Below. In the middle of the mandala is a Bodygraph. The position of planets at the moment of our birth determines which of the hexagrams are activated or defined. If, for example, you were born with Sun in the Aquarius (two wavy lines), and the Sun is in a 13th hexagram, than that hexagram becomes a part of your definition, defining your 13 th gate (in the G center) as your Personality Sun.
Human Design synthesizes components of several ancient traditions and modern scientific disciplines. These are I'Ching of Taoism, Tree of Life of Kabbalah, Chakra system of Hinduism and various systems of Astrology on the one hand and Astronomy, Physics and Molecular Biology on the other hand. (For information about the origin of the Human Design, read this article.)
BODYGRAPH
At the center of the Mandala is the Bodygraph, the representation of human body.
There are 9 centers, 36 channels and 64 gates in the Bodygraph. The centers are hubs of energy in our body, but unlike the 7 chakras of the Hinduistic tradition, there are 9 centers in the Bodygraph. Each center represents a certain type of energy and is related to certain functions within our body. Definition (and openness) of our centers determines to a large degree who we are. Our type, and strategy associated with it, is determined by which centers in our Bodygraph are defined (colored in) and how they are connected.
DESIGN AND PERSONALITY
Two columns of numbers on the left and right side of the Bodygraph represent the position of the sun, earth, moon, south & north nodes of the moon and planets. The left column (in
red) is our Design (our unconscious definition) and the right column (in black) is our Personality (our conscious definition).
Unlike astrology, where one's chart is based on the birth time only (natal chart), Human Design calculates two moments in time. Our birth, which determines our conscious definition (Personality, in black color) and a moment approximately 88 days before our birth (exactly 88 degrees of the sun before the moment of our birth), which determines our unconscious definition (Design, in red color). This second,
pre-natal calculation is unique and crucial part of the Human Design revelation.
Our Personality definition represents what we are consciously aware of. It is who we think we are. For example, if you have the 42nd gate is part of your Personality definition, you know you like to finish what you've started. Design, on the other hand, represents our unconscious tendencies, our unconsciousness. It is something we usually learn because other people point it out to us. For example, if the 28th gate is part of your Design definition, you are always ready to take risk in order to find a meaning in life. Yet you would not describe yourself as such. Design also represents our genetic inheritance, what we get from our ancestors.
Personality can be compared to roads and Design to tunnels. We see where the road goes, but we have no idea where the tunnel may be. And where we have both Design and Personality defining a gate or even the whole channel, it's like a road with the tunnel underneath. Design and Personality combined give rise to the basic element of duality in our life. We are not who we think we are.
GATES AND CHANNELS
Gates in the Bodygraph are connected through a network of channels. Each gate represents a certain type of [archetypal] energy or behavior. The gates defined unconsciously (by our Design definition) are colored in red (e.g. here gate 14) and the gates that are defined consciously (by our Personality definition) are colored in black (e.g. here gate 29). If the gate is defined both consciously and unconsciously, it is colored in both red and black lines (e.g. here gate 5).
Where there are defined gates on both ends of a channel, a defined channel is created (the whole channel is colored in, either in red, black or both), like here the channel 5-15. Defined channels brings together energy of two centers, and in combining the characteristics of its two gates they give rise to a new, third energy. Defined channel is a third energy, quantum intelligence, more then just a sum of its gates, and plays a major role in our life.
Defined channel also automatically defines the centers on both ends. So if there is no defined channel connected to a particular center, the center is open, undefined (white), like here the Ego center (top right). If the 25th gate would be defined in the G (yellow) center, the channel 25-51 would be defined and so would be the Ego center itself.
AUTHORITY AND THE NOT-SELF
Strategy and authority are the alpha and omega of Human Design. Authority, in the sense that Human Design uses this term, means authority for our decision-making. It is that in you that you can truly rely on to make consistently the right decisions. There are several inner authorities, the most common being Emotional and Sacral authority.
The mind doesn't know what's right for us. That doesn't mean it's not intelligent. Mind can be a wonderful tool, as long as it's not the master of our life. But the mind is never our inner authority, whether it's defined or undefined. It has only so called outer authority, which means that what we say can be inspiring for others. It is not correct for us to make decisions from our mind. The mind also second-guesses our true authority and can argue for or against anything that serves its agenda. It is hijacking our identity and pretending to be us. The only safety that we have is to make decisions based on our strategy and our own true inner authority.
The Not-self is who we are when we make decisions from our mind as opposed to our true authority. The open (undefined) centers are where we get deeply conditioned. This conditioning becomes a force that rules our life through our subconscious programs and behavioral patterns. The strategy and authority enables us to make consistently reliable decisions that are correct for us and decondition our Not-self tendencies. It is a process of attuning our Aura to the right frequency.
Ra says this about living as our Not-self:
It's not like … the punishment is that you don't know who you are, you're confused and you go to your grave like most people: wondering what the hell it was for. You end up being sick, when you're not yourself. It's not just the psychology, it's the physical body…See, we're objects. All of us are objects moving in space. Doesn't seem like that, but it's true. And the moment you're moving in space and you're not moving correctly, all you meet is resistance…The moment that you're operating correctly – remember, this is just a genetic framework – the moment that you're operating correctly, what happens to you is: YOU GET RID OF THE RESISTANCE. That's so much easier. PROFILE AND LINES
Profile is another way to look at us – not as who we are, but where are we going and what's this all about. Everyone comes to the world with a specific profile or purpose. Understanding your profile helps you understand your purpose in life. Yet there is nothing you can do to make it happen except by living your design.
Our profile is determined by the lines of our Personality and Design Suns (the number after the dot). Here is a very simplified characteristics of the 6 lines:
1st line = investigator; student who studies things deeply, needs solid foundation to feel secure
2nd line = hermit; natural talent, wants to be left alone, waits for the calling
3rd line = martyr; trial and error, finding out what works by going through what doesn't first, goes through many relationships, jobs etc. to find what works
4th line = opportunist; influential, communicative, network of friends and associates
5th line = heretic; seductive and attractive energy that attract projections and expectations from others
6th line = role model; acts as a 3rd line in the first 30 yrs of ones life, then authority for others, detached from life (between 30th and 50th year) to finally become a role model (after 50th year)
For example the 2/4 profile is that of hermit/opportunist, someone who loves (and finds harmony through) being alone, yet has great interpersonal skills of communication and interaction with others, and always has other people coming in his life, calling him out of his cave.
There are 12 profiles: 1/3, 1/4, 2/4, 2/5, 3/5, 3/6, 4/6, 4/1, 5/1, 5/2, 6/2 and 6/3.
Profile must be seen in relation to your type.
