Yes. I often silently say to God/Reality/Isness "Thank you for everything. Thank you for this incredible world, for all of the experiences I've had (both good and bad), for all of the interesting people I've known, for the happiness and joy of meeting soulmates, for shared love, for children (my own and others), for parents and friends, for laughter and tears, for all of the strange and wonderful creatures that share the planet with us, for flowers, trees, mountain canyons, waterfalls, clouds, stars, storms, oceans, and a body/mind that senses all of this." I have even thanked God for a reality that includes a stock market (one of many passions), McDonald's coffee and the people who serve it to me, fossils of ancient creatures (which I love to hunt for), and a skybar in Asheville from which spectacular sunsets can be viewed. When I am asked to say a prayer prior to a meal, I always include, "...we give thanks for the gift of life and consciousness...." and I always end the prayer by saying, "We pray these things to the infinite One in whom we live and breathe and have our being." For me, Thanksgiving is every day of the year. Good preacher you, ZD, where is the smiley shrugging shoulders in despair with open arms? For solidarity, i join the thankful club, lovingly annoyed.
