Freejoy: You wrote, "I enjoy reading your posts ZD. When I consider greed, I consider if a homeless person come to the party? Most of the enlightened people will not let someone come to one of their enlightenment retreats unless they can pay. Why didn't Jesus and Buddha amass a fortune and help poor people?" First of all, many enlightened people allow folks to attend their retreats if they are unable to pay. Most of the big-name teachers have free scholarships for serious seekers who are penniless. Even small retreat groups (such as SIG or TAT) have allowed people to attend who had no money. Second, most homeless people are mentally ill, and very few of them are interested in non-duality teachings. Those that are not mentally ill or addicted to drugs are primarily interested in either (1) being left alone because homelessness is a choice, or (2) trying to find a way to escape homelessness through a job or government programs. As for your question about Jesus and Buddha, you already know the answer. Your question arises from imagination ABOUT reality, so bring it closer to home. Why do YOU do what you do? Find out who's running your own show ("Freejoy"'s life), and then you'll understand why everyone else is doing what they're doing. Careful, this is a 'no attack' thread ya know.

O.k. this was for the most technical of violations of the amorphous and highly subjective standard for content unsuitable for a no-attack thread. Please direct all discussion about what may or may not constitute an attack to these parallel threads or PM me. Sorry, (and this pains me more that it does anyone else), can't make a humor-exception to this rule.

ZD was right on in that post, though it was a personal comment, which is why I didn't say it myself in that thread. Here, it's a different story.
FJ doesn't see himself as having an issue with greed because he doesn't see himself as greedy, but that's not what it means to have an issue with it. It just means that attention is drawn relentlessly to the issue, for whatever reason, until it is resolved.
All obstacles to our freedom are placed before us by the strength of our attention to them. There's never a need to go looking for our next 'lesson' as it's always pursuing us, and it's pointless looking beyond the river to some magical realm until we've crossed what's in front of us.

What are you hoping to be given? Money and enlightenment? Are you letting your imagination run wild? Success is as dangerous as failure. Hope is as hollow as fear.
What does it mean that success is a dangerous as failure? Whether you go up the ladder or down it, you position is still shaky. When you stand with your two feet on the ground, you will always keep your balance.
What does it mean that hope is as hollow as fear? Hope and fear are both phantoms that arise from thinking of the self. When we don't see the self as self, what do we have to fear?
See the world as your self. Have faith in the way things are. Love the world as your self; then you can care for all things.~ Tao Te Ching I'm still trying to understand that one. Hey FJ, I'd invite you to repost the Tao cite in the moderated version of the thread without the question to Silence about his imagination.

Actually, my understanding of that encounter, was that when Wu finished his list of meritorious 'doings', Bodhidarma took off one shoe, placed it on his head, and walked away. Steve the guy was trying to win brownie points with God. Emperor Wu? Yes

Steve the guy was trying to win brownie points with God. Emperor Wu? Yes (lol) ... moving FJ's post there was a silly slip of poor moderation on my part ...

Rule a nation with justice. Wage war with surprise moves. Become master of the universe without striving. How do I know that this is so? Because of this!
The more laws and restrictions there are, The poorer people become. The sharper men's weapons, The more trouble in the land. The more ingenious and clever men are, The more strange things happen. The more rules and regulations, The more thieves and robbers.
Therefore the sage says: I take no action and people are reformed. I enjoy peace and people become honest. I do nothing and people become rich. I have no desires and people return to the good and simple life.

"But whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?"
~Jesus What does this mean? Was Jesus Enlightened? Does this scripture make sense? FJ, I can tell that you've got a keen interest in this question "What does it mean?" because you posted it in the no-attack thread twice: "If anyone wants to sue you and take away your tunic, let him have your cloak also. And whoever compels you to go one mile, go with him two. Give to him who asks you, and from him who wants to borrow from you do not turn away."
~Jesus
What does this mean? ... but please refrain from posting duplicative content in the no-attack threads.

I'm not sure if I'm greedy or not. I don't feel greedy. I only know the effect greed had/has on me. It sure didn't help enlightened me. Of course it didn't enlighten you. I'm saying your interest in it implies that it is an obstacle to your awakening and needs resolution.
