Its funny, the one time I ever reported a post and requested some moderation I got banned lol of well That is funny. But it's been nice having you around. Go get some of that samadhi action and report back. Sounds like quite a bonfire of the vanities. I could sure use one. :-) have a great weekend Max, give those loved ones a big ole hug

Hello Peter, This is Steve is there some reason why you have banned my account until October 11th? You're here posting under another account. Does it even matter?

Steve, I temp banned you because you were in the process of flooding me with Reported Posts (6? You felt you needed to submit 6 reports about the same thread/complaint, you couldn't role them up into 1?), each of which takes me about 5 minutes to deal with. So that's 30 minutes of my time where you expect me to do your bidding. Would you like to come round my house and clean up my yard while I clean up your reported posts?
You probably didn't realise that it takes me time to deal with reported posts.
I have enough to deal with deleting the spam, without having you generate extra work because "you don't like the posts Reefs makes". I actually explained all this in a message to you at the time which you'll read soon enough - I thought you'd have been sent a copy via email, but perhaps not. I've been trying for 4 years to make people stop making posts that I "don't like" and I decided some time ago that I don't know how to do that. So I'm now just stepping in when someone so far crosses the line as for there to be no Question about it.
Just because someone sets up some thread that says "the rules are such and such" doesn't mean that I then automatically have a responsibility to police that - not that my policing has been in any way effective to date, anyway. ZD can police his own thread if he wishes.
I'll unblock your account now.

Ahh, I see you didn't agree with my Temp Ban, so you just went ahead and created a new "SteveC" account, and carried right on anyway. Didn't wait to find out why I'd banned you, in too much of a rush to transmit your message to the masses. I do something you don't like, you just step right around it.
Well fine Steve, I'm not going to re-ban your IP address out of spite, but I can clearly see what you think about the Mod role here. Amusingly, I feel pretty much the same about it.

I think you deserve some respect for that Peter. Most mods on forum would never do this and simply re-ban the user. I think making a bad user icon next to a member name as a warning might work a little better. Then if that user tries to create a work around by a dupe account you can really ban that person. I am not sure about the software on this free forum but some forum have systems in place that make it near impossible to create a dupe account. These systems not only look for dupe accounts they also look for any kind of proxy being used. What I like about these systems is once a person is banned they are out until amends can be made. So maybe warn first with a icon then ban as normally if a user is warned first they behave better..just saying any how you have my respect Nowhereman

I have to admit I was in a bit of a rush the day I banned Steve, mostly I was just making sure he stopped with the Reporting before I ended up with any more work - none of which I can actually do anything about anyway ("Dear Reefs, Steve thought your post to Max was a jibe, rather than humour. I'd ban you if I could prove you were being deliberately provocative, but since I can't, I'll just...er....hmm").
And then I had to go away for the night so Steve's account remained banned. My own cupability in the matter means I don't totally blame Steve for creating a new account when he wasn't properly informed why the last one was stopped. I did send him a message, but it obviously didn't reach him.
I have no influence over the software here. If you have a suggestion for an enhancement, you could submit it on the main proboard.com forum. There is functionality for sending warnings to an account, but I prefer to make warnings public so that it's all Out In The Open.

ZD can police his own thread if he wishes. I'll unblock your account now. Sure, I wouldn't expect you to feel like you had to moderate a thread because the originator wanted it to be a certain type of discussion, but I'm wondering why, once you got the gist of the complaints, you couldn't just fire off a message to Steve letting him know that and not even bother reading the rest. Okay, maybe 10-15 minutes moderator time there. I remember a time when I flagged a similar number of posts in one day. I guess I won't be doing THAT again.

Its cool Peter, I have no interest in taking up your time in a way that you so not wish it to be. Your time is your time. But in the future, if a similar situation ever arises, I think it wouldn't take but a couple extra seconds to give me a message explaining that each flag initiates a protocol thats time consuming to deal with. Thats all thats needed with me, I'm not interested in ruining anyones day ;-)

I'm wondering why, once you got the gist of the complaints, you couldn't just fire off a message to Steve letting him know that and not even bother reading the rest. Unfortunately the forum software flags up to me when there's a reported post and then it stays on a queue which I have to go into and say some comment and then go back into it to archive them out of the queue. I haven't seen an option for just deleting a bunch of them out of hand, but I'll check the drop downs again. I did send Steve a message, but he hadn't read it by the time I had to leave for the day.

I think it wouldn't take but a couple extra seconds to give me a message explaining that each flag initiates a protocol thats time consuming to deal with. I sent you such a message Steve, on the 4th of October. You've since replied to that PM, so I'm a little surprised to see you encouraging me to do something that I was already doing. You also reported an additional 5 posts AFTER I started a dialog with you questioning your motives in reporting the 1st post. That's why I hit the temp-ban button, because you hadn't stopped reporting posts even after you knew I was looking into it. The fact that - in this case....as is true of most cases - there was nothing I was going to be able to do with your complaint.....is just all part of life's rich tapestry.
