wanna hear a story? hehe so, I got this bad ear infection a couple weeks ago, and then after starting antibiotic ear drops, I get a bad case of tinnitus .. which is a persistent high pitched buzzing in my left ear. then after about 36 hours of this non stop 'buzzing' I told my wife I was going to kill myself if it didn't stop .. and I was serious, and I have a loaded .45 in my closet, so I was starting to get pretty freaked out. and ok, I know its 'thoughts' that are the 'troublemaker', and I can go into that 'still mind' state at will, but when I do, that buzzing gets turned up to max volume. lol. so I say "scrap still mind, I'm going into 'happy thoughts' mode", and that sort of helped. but after a few days I didn't need to do that anymore. well, I'm about a week into buzz buzz buzz, and I'm almost getting cool with it. lol. I mean, I'd be cooler with it if it stopped, but .. "fvck it, whadya gonna do?" ;-) I have found that the 'sound' intensifies if my attention rests there, but if my attention goes elsewhere, then it's just background noise. one funny thing about tinnitus .. its not a "real sound", its imaginary, created in the brain somehow. Were you shooting off fireworks a few weeks ago? I was just reading about loud noise (explosions, firearms, high intensity music) and tinnitus.

Greetings..
My earliest memories include 'ringing' in my ears, like millions of crickets.. it's been a constant companion throughout my Life, almost always present, though often unnoticed as i've developed a tolerance.. it does vary in volume, a few thousand 'crickets' up to millions of 'crickets', and changes in elevation requiring the ears to 'pop' to equalize pressure has the effect of muffling the sound as the pressure differential increases.. but hey, it is what it is..
Be well..

Hi B: Yeah, people's inability to experience the magical and mystical in their ordinary existence motivates them to imagine magical and mystical to fill that gap.. What i've found interesting, is in the instant that i realize i'm not hearing the ringing (compensating), the ringing revels its presence.. Same, it's what this experience of existing 'is', for me.. Be well..

Noise makers like fans work to ease it and distract the mind from noticing it. I can't go into silent places for long without getting a headache from the ringing. It is funny how its just a firing neuron creating the perception of what the mind calls sound. Kinda makes ya wonder what else is just imagined. :x

Greetings.. The 'sound' is not 'imagined', it is manifested in non-traditional auditory links to the brain.. See: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TinnitusBe well..

Greetings.. The 'sound' is not 'imagined', it is manifested in non-traditional auditory links to the brain.. See: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TinnitusBe well.. yeah, been there, done that, with regards to that article, and many more. ;-) "Subjective tinnitus can only be heard by the affected person and is caused by otology, neurology, infection, or drugs" - is that imagination, or not? I dunno these snips bring back some memories from my initial encounter with this phenomena .. "The condition is often rated clinically on a simple scale from "slight" to " catastrophic" "high-pitched whining" "Tinnitus can be intermittent, or it can be continuous, in which case it can be the cause of great distress." LOL funny thing, sometime during the worst of it I had a thought .. "you can have full liberation, but you must accept this catastrophic noise for the remainder of your life. Deal?" - I said "phuck NO", lol, I never thought I'd say no to such an offer. Coward. ;-)
