People sometimes ask why is personal power so important to spiritual growth. The way of the ego or what I call the Earth Mind has us getting power from outside of self from other people places and things. Power coming from outside of self is of a poor quality and as time goes on more and more is needed just to keep us where we started out. Some get power from manipulation and control of others. Some get their power from sex with a lot of people. Some get power from being liked and worshiped by a lot of other people, famous people and stars fall pray to this kind of thing. Some get their fix from having money and a lot of things. All of this kind of stuff falls under the heading of desire, it is of the ego or the Earth MInd. It never truly satisfies, it leaves us wanting more and more and more. It also keeps our over all body vibration lower so that what spiritual knowledge we do have is clouded and not fully comprehended. When we can piss people off and keep them thinking of us we are getting our power from outside of self. If a person that we love leaves us and finds another we are left thinking about them and feeling loss, we are giving away our personal power. In truth there is no loss or separation, it is an illusion of our own ego's making. The feelings of loss, separation, and pain are not because that person has left and left an empty space in us. This what our ego wants us to believe so that we will keep searching outside of self to fill the hole that is left in us. When you do not know source and you trade power with other people the emptiness that you feel when they leave is not caused by their absence, they have taken part of you that you have wrongly given them during your relationship. You are really missing part of yourself. Real power comes from source, it comes from inside of us threw a real connection to spirit. That comes from gathering personal power from the places that you have left it in your past. Knowledge is fine all well and good, but what good will it do you if you cannot fully comprehend it. Real power does not come from letting someone else be your connection to spirit. All things tie together.

Real power does not come from letting someone else be your connection to spirit. All things tie together. I can agree with this on the whole. The first time I encountered this term personal power, it was in the 70's reading Castaneda. (I had to start with Journey To Ixtlan, 1974, which I got and loved, then I was able to go back and read the first two, the then the others as they came out). I was as frustrated as Castaneda that Don Juan wouldn't really describe what personal power was or meant. .......Eventually, I got the meaning by experiencing it. The material world is the lowest level of vibration and thus capable of only the lowest levels of energy. But all the worlds exist in some form inside us, and while present in the physical we can climb the higher worlds by accessing those aspects of what constitute our being which exist on the higher planes (as above, so below). At this point, our greatest leak of personal power is our own ego. If we shift our sense of identity from ego to a more encompassing whole (for me, this next stage is essence), we seal up the leaks and begin accumulating more personal power. Our link to ego is what allows the leaks to other people and things, ego's natural habitat. sdp

Personal power, used by Castaneda, has a specific meaning. I presume Ishtahota is using it in a similar sense. I would guess you have not read Castaneda. IOW, no. Also, try reading the OP. sdp

"This what our ego wants us to believe so that we will keep searching outside of self to fill the hole that is left in us." He suggests there is an ego, and then something else that believes stuff and is left with a hole and needs personal power. I'm suggesting that they are the same. There's value in learning how not to be emotionally controlled by others, and there's value in understanding the difference between 'power over' and 'power with' as the later is no longer personal, but to split ego into 'me' vs ego is just confusion.

It seems that you never stop to just consider that you just might be wrong. To find truth you have to find it in yourself. Does ego exist? For me, surely. Were you born with an ego? Obviously not. So, you are at least two, what you were born as and the enculturation of ego. This something else doesn't "believe stuff", it just is. This something else is what you were born as. Ego cannot accumulate personal power. Jesus put it this way, new wine cannot be put into old wineskins (ego structure) because if you try the wineskin will burst and you will lose both the new wine and the old wineskin. New wine must be put into new wineskins. Ego cannot grow and develop, ego is a dead end. This something else we were born as gets covered over by the formation of ego, actually gets suffocated by ego. We could say that "personal power" is the fuel and food of this something we were born as, our essential nature. Either you are two or not two. You 'believe' that you are not two. That's OK, you can believe anything you wish to, I call it conceptual non-dualism. I see that I am two and ego is actually, in a very real sense, my enemy. If allowed, ego takes all my energy. No confusion here, there is no splitting of ego into two, you are already two, ego and essence. You get to choose what you say "I" to. What Ishtahota says resonates. sdp

What Ishtahota says resonates. sdp It's an odd game to see yourself as two, and I don't know why that notion doesn't raise a flag for you. Ego is essentially an idea about a person that has become a belief structure in your mind. There's nothing to ego aside from that belief. It therefore has no existence and no power beyond the power you give to your own belief. As you say, this 'something else' that you are doesn't believe stuff, it just is. It therefore doesn't 'choose what to say 'I' to', nor is it what is talking about it's beliefs here. You've been conned big time as ego puts on a mask and calls itself essence and looks for ways to increase it's personal power. It's important that it be denied the personal power that it seeks.
