This is a pm from someone who used to be here, but after a while, they seemingly dropped out for whatever reason and I think there's food for thought about some of the most recent discussions and seems somewhat related to amit's thread, 'character analysis'.
Some of the names and bits have been omitted - some have not.
If anyone has any thoughts / feelings they'd like to share about the recently talked-about issue of sharing pm's on the open forum, with or without 'permission', that would be welcome.
I think that even if they were to come back, it's something that they wouldn't have a problem with my sharing it on the open forum.
(.......)
Humm reminds me of andrewtemp (pretty sure same as SF andrew right?) - philosophically competent, enthusiastic, open. Reason he stayed away - prob was very aware of the disharmony as a real conflict in his being that he didn't want to use as a means of growth.. Some can detach from this , some need to. Shaman is even more sensitive like that.
Glad you brought up Tzu - when I came here and saw him here i made a deliberate decision before registering to not engage him directly or indirectly so it would be clear (at least to me anyway) that he is having the same arguments no matter where he goes and who he talks to (same deal with enigma apparently). in my dealings with Tzu, never once disparaged his beliefs - only his attempted either imposition of it on others - or ridiculing people when they said 'no thanks' or simply had other beliefs. It is a very important principle for me.
Was just thinking this morning and revised my impression of you. Until recently thought of you as lonely, maybe a product of your grief. But now I actually (as sparked by some of fig's comments about you ) see you as a kind of honey-bee, irrepressibly gathering nectar from hither and yon. You treat everywhere you go like a block party and you are meeting and greeting all your neighbors with open arms. This is a quality of heart and why the rugged intellectuals here don't give you no respect. This place is like a single-malt whiskey bar. The bartender is a big blowhard and slams his fist down on the bar and says what'll ya have padna? You can have what ever ya want ... as long as its whiskey! hahahahaha....
So - most of the rancor here is some people ordering cranberry juice on ice with a lime twist. Pretty 'gay' compared to the hard stuff straight-up, no?
Maybe it would be interesting with those others here b/c it would become more diverse instead of stiflingly doctrinaire. Plus people could do 'tag-team' on enigma. Does that guy spend every waking minute here? Geez!
I think Gem would stay there SF b/c he wants to be a gentle grandpa who complains to the young ones as an example of what that complaining looks like in your 40's if you don't process resentment at an earlier age. (that said, don't know what he went through)
It does seem like a more seasoned crowd here - no teenagers, etc. I get the feeling avg age is much higher than SF even if smaller population. The more permissive moderation is refreshing even if it presents its own intrinsic challenges. I think one of the reasons I got tired of SF was seemed to be a bit stifling - this thing about making it safe for 12 year olds - come on. These days 8 year olds are sexting pictures of their genitals!. So many church ladies, therapists and feel-good compassionate mommies - -- ughh.
Bar keep! Whiskey!!
